Default Introducing myself

Hi everyone. My name is Jo and I'm new here and fairly new to stamping also. Well, I've tried stamping on and off during the past few years, but I don't think I'm very good at it. I really want to do it because it looks like alot of fun, but I'm not very creative and when I try to go to websites for inspiration, most of them are way too advanced for me to be able to follow. Also, I can't look at one card and get any ideas from it for myself. I've got to look at a card, know exactly what's used, how it's made and be able to duplicate it completely because like I said I don't have one creative bone in my whole body. lol Does anyone have some simple websites for beginning card makers using fairly common supplies so I can try to get into it more? Thanks for any help!

Hi Jo and welcome from New Zealand! Most stampers and card makers start of the same way as you so we do understand your predicament. When I started stamping (over 10 years ago now - this hobby sure gets a hold of one!) I got basic card-making books out of the library and I started with very simple designs that were explained fully. Maybe that would help you?

Hi Stephanie. Thanks for replying.
Yes, I've tried getting books from the library, but alot of the supplies weren't available in my area or if I had questions, I couldn't find the answers in the book. I guess they weren't basic enough. lol
I've spent alot of money on stamps, paper, etc. and really can't spend anymore on something that I don't have a clue about what to do with it. I'm hoping maybe I can get some inspiration or help with questions here I guess.

Hi Jo, feel free to ask me any questions, you can send me a pm if you like. Or you might like to check out the threads about stamping. Click on 'Forum' at the top of this page and scroll down until you get to the heading Stamping Stuff. Under that heading is 'General Stamping Talk' and 'Tool & Product Talk'. I am sure you will find other people who have the same questions as you.

How do I send a PM? Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to cut my paper to the right dimensions for cards. I think I might be getting somewhere. lol

Hi Jo. If you left-click on my username you should get some menu options. One of the options is 'send a private message to parkes'. If you click on that you get into a kind of mini-email system within SCS.

Thanks, Stephanie. I sent you a pm, but I'm not sure it went through because I don't have any sent messages in my folder.

The pm went through fine! There is a box to check so you get to keep a copy.

Hi Jo! Welcome to the forums! I've been here for a short while and love all the advice and info I've gotten. I just recently finished cards for my first swap, which was fun to have a new purpose to make cards. You should try them. I didn't think I was good at stamping at first either but that just means you need more practice and products! Lol

I think you're right - especially about the more product part! lol I thought I had too many supplies, but when I look at the galleries, I can see LOTS that I'm still missing. I have almost no embellishments and I think that's what makes the card sometimes. I'm very limited as to ink colors and have no designer papers. I'm going shopping tomorrow so a trip to Joann's is in order, I think. As soon as I get more products, then I can start with the more practice part.

Hi Jo and WELCOME TO SCS> There is alot of great info here and people are so willing to help. Check out my blog as I posted some general card sizes as well as where you should be scoring them. There is probably a thread here somewhere too. Hope you had a great trip to Joanns and got alot of cool stuff!

Greetings from Central New York! You can try searching by the name of the stamp sets that you have and you should be able to get ideas that way. If you check in the Gallery by company name and then stamp name you will see ideas for your stamps. Enjoy! But beware because we LOVE to enable people into this addictive hobby! I suggest browsing the Gallery to see what kind of style pleases you and then try stamps, inks, paper that fit your style.
