Default How Scrapbooking has changed

I did a lot of scrapbooking several years ago and then was away from it for several more. I got back to it about a year ago and wow has it changed. Everything now is about embellishments so much that it's sometimes difficult to even see the picture. In the earlier years we scrapped to illustrate our lives in pictures that were enhanced with embellishments that made a page visually pleasing but not overdone. I'm wondering now if scrapbooking should be divided into two separate crafts - one that is primarily still focusing on our pictures and a second branch that is a papercraft focusing on embellishments and special techniques.

Hi Mary! I have noticed the change as well and I think that there are many ways to scrapbook now- just depends on the way you would like to create

Digital, Project Life (very easy and quick with less embellishments), Mixed Media (heavy on the embellishments) and Traditional...

I,personally have focused more on cardmaking but have been stocking up the supplies for scrapbooking....I believe that there is no right or wrong in whatever approach you take, but you are correct in your observations- things have changed over the years and many love to add more embellishments and allow just one photo to be the center of each page

Thanks for all the info Lela. It's great to find places that I will feel I can find friends who share my idea of scrapbooking and also hear from others who like to create in other types of mediums. Again, thanks for all the info.

Hi Mary! I still do mostly simple pages - trying to focus on the photos and the stories behind them. I think that a lot of these heavily embellished pages are inspired by design team members - who try to promote products (lots of products ) I like looking at all the different styles - I don't think I can ever get too much inspiration
