Default Help!! My fingers are sore from sharpening

Anybody else have sore fingers from sharpening their prismacolor pencils? I've only got half the box of 120 sharpened and my thumb is so sore. The colors are so pretty.

My fingers are still hurting and I did this yesterday. Did anyone freeze their pencils first? Someone told me to do that and it worked like a charm with an eyeliner pencil sharpener. I did not even have to watch it. I just twisted until I did not cut anymore, and lo and behold, a perfect small point, not sharp. I left each try in the freezer until I finished with the other tray. Someone on this site told me about it. What a great idea.

I take it that you're using hand-held sharpeners, not electric??

I have the box of 120 and I've had them for a LONG time - got a great deal at Dick Blick (not as good as the Viking deal, though!). But they've been sitting in the box waiting for me!! I do have a set of 24 I bought earlier (enough to see if I like them).

I'd love to hear from someone who has completed the color chart and can tell us which pencils go best with which SU colors!!!

I haven't sharpened mine yet. Do I need to use the eyeliner sharpener so I get a shallow point? or can I use the electric pencil sharpener?? And, what's the advantage of freezing the pencils before sharpening?

Thanks for your insights. BTW - Did you all get your $25 rebate forms?

I still need to get a sharpener. I probably have an eye-pencil sharpener if I dig through my old make up stuff. I'll look tomorrow.

Someone said on another thread not to use an electric sharpener.

Finally !! I'm done sharpening all 120 of them. My poor thumb is aching. Has anyone had problems with broken lead in any of your pencils? I put each tray in the freezer but I still had some that were broken off down inside the wood after they were sharpened. I used the Stampin Up pencil sharpener. I tried a cosmetic sharpener but it made the wood kind of chip a little so I went back to the SU one. I can't wait to use them. Whew! I'm just glad they are all sharpened.

Everyone of my pencils came out perfect with the freezing technique and the eyeliner pencil sharpener. I thought when the person told me to put them in the freezer, this sounds silly, but I did it and I cannot believe how great it came out. I have a pack of 48, which I am giving away, and I used the electric for them and I had so many problems, lead breaking the wood on the pencil cracking, that is why I asked the question on this site 2 days ago, for help. About 12 people gave me suggestions, a lot of them told me to use the makeup sharpener so I went with that and I thought what the heck, I'll try the freezer, and it worked.
I guess it is just everyone's preference. They also advised me to not push hard, to have a steady and gently push.
