Cool Hello from Northern VA

Hi I am a newbie to card making but not crafting. I have lots of time right now (unemployed) so I decided to start making cards for the upcoming holiday season. I used to make candy a few years ago but it was so time consuming that I stopped so that I could finish my BA and MS degrees.

I am thinking about getting a die cutting machine but the choices are overwhelming. I want to be able to emboss as well as cut shapes. Can you control the size if the objects with the manual die cutters?

Also what is SU?

I look forward to everyone's advice, tips, tricks, etc...

By the way my name is Kris

Hi Kris and welcome from New Zealand! SU stands for Stampin' Up!, a US stamp company. I don't know much about the history of this forum but I understand SU was the founder company. That's great you can use your extra time card making - such an exciting, satisfying hobby! Have fun here!

Hi Kris! Welcome from a fellow NoVA gal!!!

Machines that emboss can only cut shapes from dies that are fixed in size. Electronic cutter that you can adjust the size of the image to be cut cannot emboss. Stinks, doesn't it? LOL~ Good luck with your decision and welcome to the wonderful world of stamping. If you haven't checked out Angela's Happy Stamper store in Reston, you should.
