Default Aloha all!!! newbie here

Aloha!!!

I just stoping by and saying hi to everyone. I am a very new stamper but, am very excieted to learn great techniques and info. I enjoy making cards and recently started incorporating my stamps though I do not have many or many ink pads. Everytime I go to the store to buy inks I just dont know which ones are the right ones for me. Plus they are a little expensive....hopefully I will get some soon...

well hope everyone has a great day

mahalo!

Welcome to SCS. You've found a great resource.

As for inkpads, when I started, I also didn't know what to buy. I know my eyes were opened when I first stamped with someone who knew what they were doing. I won't suggest a brand to you (well, okay I am gonna say a couple) but will tell you the difference between dye inks (dry immediately when stamped) and pigment (stay wet enough to heat emboss but will also smear if not heat set). I was buying pigment inks because I didn't know this and all my work smudged. Yuck.

The two I will recommend are VersaMark -- this will give you a watermark look or tone-on-tone plus it allows for heat embossing; and StazOn -- great for watercoloring because it doesn't bleed.

You'll find lots of help and resources here. Just ask your questions.

Linda,

Thank you so much for your help. I made so many boo-boos so far lol!...I decided to buy a basic black for my first ink pad...i actually bought chalk ink instead ( wasnt so bad kinda like it) I then bought a white pigment pad thinking it was a versa mark pad n it ruined my card...but i guess these are all lessons learned. I have the marvy embossing pens can't wait to use them i'm just waiting on my heat gun in the mail.

thanks again,
angie

Hi Angie, and welcome from New Zealand! Both pigment and dye inks have their own advantages - the main thing is to know what to expect from them, and that only comes from experience, oh and getting lots of card making books from the library! Linda has outlined the main differences between the two. Pigment ink pads also come in metallic colours (gold, silver, copper etc) which you can't get in dye inks. Dye inks, however, can come in a range of more subtle, pastel colours. Pigment inks tend to be brighter, bolder colours. Chalk inks are an exception, being pigment based, (take longer to dry but can be embossed) but come in softer colours. Hope this helps!

Hi Angie!

I'm pretty new to cardmaking too I've only been at it for a few months. I store a lot of my stuff in plastic boxes there about the size of a shoe box...I love them cause I can separate everything 1 box for ribbon, 1 for bling, 1 for punches etc. and they stack really nice in the closet.

I started out slowly then around february I really started stocking up...it accumulates really fast!! I'm working on a new layout for my office so I can fit work and play in there. Luckily I have a handyman in the house and he's going to build me more cabinets and counter top space. I should check that forum out too
