Default I have a feeling I'm going to love this site!

Thanks so much for this great site and to all that are taking the time to participate! I have a feeling that my DH is going to think I live on this site...there is soooo much info here, I just want to read it all...but then I'd have no time to actually get to stamp!!

Just new to this site. I am a Demo for Uppercase Living and have recently been a stay at home mom after working for 30 years. So this is a great way to take up some time in the afternoon, while my kids are in school.

Default Another Newbie From Micigan

Hi, My name is Mary Stowers and I'm from Oxford, Michigan. I've been stamping for about 4 years. I have 4 sons and 10 grandchildren. I work full time and stamp/scrap every chance I get. My husband thinks we should create a Scrapbookers Anonymous--but I told him I'm not ready to give up this addiction. It relaxes me, keeps me away from snacking, introduces me to wonderful people, and creates such beauty!! I can always learn something new, too! I really like to learn new techniques. I am very impressed with SCS and must admit I was a little intimidated by the site, at first, but after reading all the helpful links that were sent in the welcome letter, I feel more confident about navigating the site.

Absolutely!

You can send them to me. I make cards for the Veterans and find donors to help me include a gift card in every one of the cards I give. I hold card making "parties" at my home to make as many cards for the Vets that I can get made. Each one I give is always homemade, so it takes some time on my part to get as many as I can each month.

Once a month I go to the VA hospital in Tampa, Florida. There is a nursing home there for Veterans who have spinal cord injuries. These Vets are from all over the USA as this is the only place for long term care for these injuries. These heroic men and women are often hundreds of miles from friends and family, so every visit really counts.

People do not know that these Vets must supply their own toiletries such as soap and shaving cream, clothing such as socks, underwear and sweaters, pens, paper and pencils, etc. They also must pay for long distance calls. Every cent does count.

I also have another group that makes lap blankets for me to bring.

So if you, or any Splitcoast Stamper, would like to be part of this important stamping project, please send cards to

Janice Novello
7914 Royal Birkdale Circle
Bradenton, Florida 34202

Please write "Thank you" inside of the card and sign it. If you would like to be an email buddy with a Vet or his/her family, just include your email address.

Thanks so much,
Janice

Hi Lisa...

I have been asked by people if they could buy my cards..I purchased plastic boxes and sell them in packs of 4. The money I get from the sales will go to the American Cancer Society' Relay for Life. This is my 4th year participating and my first year selling cards. I have sold them previously to family and friends and the proceeds were donated to my church. There are so many ways to sell them or even to donate them. Good luck to you!

Default SU image question

Hi, I'm so excited to be here.

I have a question that I hope is not too much of a repeat. I just want to be sure before I start uploading. (I'm not even sure that I can upload yet, but I think I'm ready to try!)

Anyway, if I upload a card with an SU image, is it enough to give SU credit in the description? I thought about buying a watermark from the wonderful Freckled Fun site, but I tried her test mark and it won't work with my software. Maybe someday I'll upgrade my software, but not right now.

Just want to be sure. I can't wait to get started! Thanks so much for your help!

New to SCS- sortof. I've been looking at SCS for more than a year! Such amazing talent in here!! I'm looking forward to start posting some of my works- and of course CASing a lot more!

I gave up Stampin' Up Demonstrator-ship in April of last year, because I was my only customer and that just wasn't a good idea! But still stamping, thank goodness!

Don't worry you will be 18 soon enough. I started with SU when my oldest daughter was 5 now she's 22!
Over the past 17 years I have gathered a group of over 50 Demos here in the Las Vegas area. We are not all in the same lines. We believe in helping each other as much as we can.

My advice for new demonstrators would be to find a stamping buddy. Do your workshops together and help each other out. It's nice when your buddy is a good friend and eventually joins your team.

The great SU special will bring many new demonstrators to the company. It's hard to pass up such a good deal.
Help the new demos get started. You are all so good at that!
Happy Stamping and scrapping, Sherrill

Default New to SCS and Maybe on my way to becoming a Demonstrator?

I recently stumbled upon SCS and I'm totally loving it! I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment but hopefully I'll find some time in between my studies and other projects to sift through all the wonderful stuff! I must say it's a huge distraction though - I'd MUCH rather study up on my cards and crafts than Anatomy and Physiology!

I'm actually thinking about becoming a demonstrator for SU but I'm not entirely sure yet because 1) I'm a student and as such don't have a lot of $$ to buy a lot of SU supplies to show off for workshops and what not and 2) I'm not really sure if I can meet the $300/quarter requirement as I don't really know anyone who might buy items or go to workshops 3) I won't get any real support from my upline as they live 2+ hours away so I'm a little nervous about that.

I was also wondering if anyone had any tips on the following things:

1) What are some good stamp sets to replace the ones in the current start-up kit?

2) What are some good colors to get for the stamp pads?

3) What are good cardstock/papers colors/styles to start with?

4) Any other important supplies to get?

5) What's a good way to find people to go to workshops and such?

6) Any other general helpful tips and tricks I should know?

I noticed some other people in the thread mentioned being a little uneasy about starting out as a demonstrator - maybe we should all create a support group for each other,

I have just been with SUp! one year this month so the others here could probably give you better advice than I could. But I will tell you a couple of things I've learned:
1. My upline lives 3 hours away but she is so good about staying in touch via e-mail, phone and snail/mail. She sometimes mails me samples of her projects so I have them as templates, samples, etc.
2. I changed some of my stamps in my kit too but I kept the Heartfelt and I LOVE it and so have all of my customers.
3. I don't try to buy EVERYTHING in the mini catalogs. I try to buy maybe two items and make a lot of projects with them to show off at clubs and/or workshops "parties".
4. Last but not least, just have fun with it! Yes I joined to have a business but I also LOVE stamping, making cards and other projects. I hope my business succeeds of course, but I will always enjoy creating with stamps.

Maybe one of these is helpful? You will know when it's right for you.

Haha what a small world! I'm originally from the Bay Area but I'm in Sac to finish some pre-nursing stuff, among other things. Where in Sac were you? I'm currently in South Sac.

Thanks so much for the tips, I really appreciate it. I definitely want to make sure I have some current stuff but I also have so many non-SU related accessories and tools and was told it would be best to use SU items to further promote the products.

There is someone who lives 10 minutes away I could sign up with but I do really like the woman who lives 2+ hours away even if I've only met her a few times. They both are nice women but meh, I just don't know.

I actually lived in Elk Grove; I worked downtown Sac all those years. I am very familiar with the South Sac area!

Yeah, I had a lot of non-related SUp! supplies also, but I don't use any of them for classes, etc. It is our business and as you said, smart to promote our products.

I checked out your sites, GIRL you are talented!

Ok when I said "small world" I mean TEENY! My bf's parents and his brother's family lives in Elk Grove so we tend to go there quite often. And while I'm admittedly not a great fan of Sac (I'm a Bay Area girl =P ) I do like South Sac/Elk Grove.

I forgot to mention that I like that your upline sends you cards for templates/samples. That's really nice and really helpful. Hopefully my sister can also be another source of help since she lives relatively close to where my upline has workshops... And while I would like this to be a business- as a student I'm not sure how that will work out but it is overall an excuse to do what I enjoy, hehe. I probably should wait a bit when I have more time or money but I can't resist the sale they have right now!

And btw thanks for going to my sites! I really didn't think anyone would do that... I'm really flattered. I saw your blog and the rub ons you used and I'm REALLY tempted to get that now. I didn't realize that becoming a demonstrator qualified to getting a set from SAB.

I am crackin' up right now! SMALL, SMALL world! It's too funny!

Yeah, my upline is a cool young lady! I had NEVER stamped until Jan 07 when I contacted her, she drove all the way down to where I live, gave me a personal class, with NO OBLIGATION on my part, then left. The following month I signed up under her! And like you, I think it's totally awesome that she goes to the trouble to either e-mail me pics of projects, or mails actual samples!

Thanks for checking out my blog!

Smile Soon to be SU demonstrator !

Hi,
I have belonged to Stampin UP for almost 6 yrs now...since the death of my husband Terry. My best friend Terri wanted me to find a "HOBBY" ( BOY DID SHE EVER !! ) to try to help me through me grief, and beleive me, this was the way to do it....
Stampin UP slowly made me start smiling through me tears, letting me know that my beloved "Terry" would have really been proud of my accomplishments through Stampin Up. Not only have I learned new things, but have gained new friendships too.
I am ready to embark on something new .....to be a demonstrator ! While I don't know how far this will go, I am truly excited about this new adventure in my life !
Thanks for listening !

Smile I am having fun reading all the postings!

Just reading all of your posts is inspirational ! I can't wait to get started as a demonstrator !
I have been to a wonderful STAMP CAMP ( last year ) and the demonstrator that I signed up under in 2003 is just fantastic ! I have learned so much from her in the past 5 1/2 yrs !
I have found that I have sparked a great deal of interest in Stampin up by keeping new cards in my purse. Some times people will ask me what I have been up to, and occassionaly I will show them the cards I have made. Immediately they are interested in this wonderful "HOBBY" of mine !
As I said in my first post, I joined SU after the (2002) death of my husband Terry. Having this wonderful hobby to occupy my time was a great distraction. I was only 48 yrs old when Terry died, and I was very scared .......
Thankfully I was blessed with wonderful friends who truly cared, otherwise I don't think I would be where I am today. Now I have a new hobby to enjoy ! While I also enjoy sewing, Scrapbooking and Card Making seems to have taken over as the number one hobby for now !
Thanks for the warm welcome to SCS ! I am looking forward to sharing lots of wonderful ideas with everyone !

I'm so glad to hear that you have such great friends and that SU really helped you move on. I can certainly see that stamping and crafting can lead to meeting really great, supportive, and kind people. I'm excited to make some great friends when I become a SU demonstrator.

I really like the idea you have about carrying a card in your purse! I'm just worried that with the ton of stuff I carry in my purse it might get ruined But I think I'll give it a try! Now if only I could bring my artwork around in a purse, haha.

[B]Dear TerraForever,
I forgot to mention that I carry the cards I make in an extra "clear" stampin up " stamp set CASE....This way the cards don't get bent etc. and I can give them to people if I chose to do so even !
Just thought you might like to know this.

Jacqueline, I love the carrying card idea also! I never thought of that! I carry technique books with my label on them but a card I've created would REALLY demonstrate what I've been up to! Thanks for the wonderful idea!

Default Glad to have found SCS!

I'm a new stamper but not a demonstrator. I have zero creativity so I'm looking forward to getting lots of ideas from my fellow stampers!
