Paper tole is quite simple at least what I do is. apparently there is some type of variation where large pictures (like A4 size) are used and u have to cut it out with a knife and stuff like that but what i do is simple.

Basically it comes in several forms - one is a sheet often with multiple pictures meaning multiple cards per sheet or u can buy books of pictures as well I love studiolight mini books

some sheets are die cut which means they are partially cut for you and they pop out others you have to cut out with scissors yourself.

there are also hearty crafts brand and you get 10 pictures per pack and they are already cut out these are the easiest to use but majority only have 3 layers they are super easy and quite pretty,

So say with a sheet you have to choose the picture start with the main picture which is always the biggest one and cut it out using double sided tape or glue stick stick it either to cardstock or directly to the card you are making then cut each layer out making sure you dont lose any bits some are tiny and you layer it either using 3D foam pads these come in 1, 2 or 3mm thickness if theres lots of layers sometimes theres like 7 layers! sometimes only 3, the more layers i would say the thinnest foam pads.

the other option which i have never tried is silicone in a tube and you squeeze it out and use it like a glue.

with the foam pads they're doubled sided have a backing paper on one side u just put enough so the layer sticks and doesnt sag anywhere then repeat for each layer sometimes the layers are numbered but generally it isnt hard to figure it out.

once the picture is complete it makes a card and like i said if you do it on cardstock you can use that as a mount on a card or alternatively put the mount on the card first or even two different colours like a white card then a couple of other layers and then the actual paper tole.

Then just add a sentiment sticker or stamp or even stamp onto cardstock emboss it say Happy birthday for a birthday card and then use the foam pads to stick onto the card. they look great.

the easiest way to show you some is to post my blog i hope thats OK? I havent worked out how to use the gallery yet.

Erin's craft projects
hope you like them!

Hi all: I love this site! So many creative people sharing their works of art. I am trying to find out how I can change my user name. Would prefer that my full name not show on my posts or if I upload a card. I have tried sending an email in the "contact us" area but once I complete the subject & message areas & hit the send button, I get a message telling me to complete the subject & message areas! Frustrating to say the least. Can someone help please. Thank you.

Hi Patty!

We don't change usernames normally but we do make exceptions for full name or when people use their email addresses accidentally. So please click here to email us with a few preferred usernames and I'll see if they're available.

I'm not sure why you're having trouble with the contact page - maybe clear your cache?

Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help me? I'm trying to add a couple of things to my signature......well actually in the space underneath it. I'm having trouble doing this. I thought I would just need to go to "Edit my Signature".
Right now I have my name and under that, "My Gallery".
I used to have a scripture verse reference and would like to add that again.
Then, today I was named as QFTD231 and I'd like to put that under the scripture reference that I'm trying to add.
Can someone help? Thanks so much.

Yes, pm is private message. You can click on their name and choose send a private message or you can go to your inbox and choose to send a new message and type in their name there.

Wink Hello.....

I am a new paper crafter and in fact, have only made one card. I have been working on my supplies, as well as organization, as I want to keep ahead of the game. I also keep an up-to-date inventory list so that I do not purchase duplicates of supplies (which has happened). I am not sure if I belong on this site as I have no where near the talent of all of you, but I was hoping I could learn. I am a physically challenged woman (I do not like the label disabled) who has had to give up her wonderful job after 25 years of employment and it took me 2 years to understand that I could no longer do the things I used to do. That was when I recently discovered card making, and you know what...I absolutely love it but I am hoping I get better at it. That was my reason for joining this wonderful site was to learn as Ive always believed that knowledge is power. I will keep trying to learn to work my way around this site as Im finding it confusing but the brain just doesnt catch on like it used to but the positive side is that I am stubborn. If anyone has any advice or perhaps let me know if I should be a part of this site, please let me know - and not to worry you wont hurt my feelings. I just want to make sure that Im not wasting anyones time and hopefully, in the future, I can make some sort of contribution back. Please forgive me if I posted in the wrong place. PS Absolutely astonished at all the beautiful and creative cards....thanks to all of you!

Hello gr8ideas
my name is Erin I joined this group to learn as well. I am positive that it doesnt matter if you are beginner or advanced anyone can join.

I also have disabilities (physically challenged) myself so I have some idea where you are coming from. there was someone on here who helped me a lot because I do not have the strength needed to use a acrylic block with the stamps.

So if you have any strength issues i highly recommend what was recommended to me which is the fiskars stamp press if you google it it should come up. I bought it from fishpond online because I am from Australia.

I am bedridden so all of my craft/card making is done from bed and while this sounds hard it is very possible! and thats another reason why i joined cos i fell in love with heat embossing (due to a you tube video) and what stamping/heat embossing can do but i thought HOW can i do this safely in bed LOL. the people on this forum helped me work out a way that is totally safe and i have never got hurt at all.

I know there are heaps of videos on here but there are also a lot on you tube so if you ever need insipiration or ideas just google card making and tons of stuff will come up prob too many ideas. There are cards that are everything from paper tole (3D) to stamping thats coloured in different techniques (some that require machines some dont) it is extremely versatile.

recently i discovered die cuts and because I am bedridden i cannot use a die cut/dry embossing machine but i found them already cut out on ebay and so that is what im going to try next but there is no reason why techniques cant be combined like i can stick a die cut of a cat on a card and stamp/heat emboss a happy birthday and stick in on.

So I love card making to. i also do crochet. Nice to meet you and I hope you get any assistance you need. I have honestly only been doing stamping for a few months myself so i am also a total newbie but this forum has helped heaps!

Oh and in case you have never heard of embossing it basically creates a raised effect sort of 3D in a way for heat embossing you stamp (using pigment ink only) and then you sprinkle this powder onto the card and get rid of the excess and then use a heat gun which melts it. with dry embossing the card goes through a machine with a sort of plate on it which creates a raised effect without using powder or heat some machines are electric some are manual.

I had never heard of embossing till i watched scrapbooking made simple video (my personal opinion is dont buy from them!!!!) but their you tubes are fantastic. I am waiting 6.5 months later for an order placed last July

anyways nice to meet you and happy card making.
from Erin

Hi emck and gr8ideas-
I have to confess that I am a "lurker" here and am reluctant to post. I had to respond to both of you. I am handiabled and have had a love of paper crafting for years. I used to make a lot of cards but... have begun making more again this last year. My ability issue is nerve/ muscles with one end result being that my hands are numb and don't move like I ask them to. This site has inspired me at low times and at high times too! I feel that there are many more talented paper artists here so I watch and adore them. My style is CAS - Clean And Simple so I fill my "need" for more intricate crafts by enjoying what others post for us to enjoy. emck I have a big shot and would love to send you some cut out's PM me and we can work it out if you would like and yes I realize that you are in Australia. I have a niece there so to me it is like mailing within the states too. Thanks for being inspirational. Ann

Erin, it is so nice to meet you dear. Thank you for the inspirational reply. It has really helped me in knowing that I have someone to talk to who understands where you are coming from. I guess I've always had the opinion that unless you live it, you don't understand it. The guilt you feel can sometimes feel overwhelming - missing out on so much with my family because I can't leave the house, and when I do, I feel like I'm ruining their time because they are "babysitting me". And the depression can sometimes last for days or months, but I always try to put a smile on my face. As I said in my post, it took 2 years just for me to realize that I was never going back to work and that I would never be the person I once was. I think it took so long because I was always an extremely independent person so asking for help was a struggle for me. Erin, it must be so difficult for you crafting from you bed as at least I can sit for 10 minutes on-and-off as I have the use of a walker. The problem is dealing with the pain - waking up to it every morning, the horrible sleepless nights and the drowsy or "spaced out" feeling from all the meds. I will tell you though that I have gotten stronger from dealing with it all both emotionally and physically as I know I can no longer push myself and have to take baby steps. You have inspired me and I too would love to send you some die cuts as I have been working on my supplies over the last while. If you are interested, just let me know. Again, a huge thank you from the bottom on my heart. Never Give Up!

Ann, thank you for your heartfelt reply. I too have issues with my hands so I understand where you are coming from. It takes a long time just to finish a card but the important thing to note is that you did it and that is very fulfilling. I can't tell you how impressed I am with all these beautiful cards on this site. I'm hoping I will be able to see some of yours but I am struggling to find my way around here so I'm in the beginning learning stage. Again Ann, I appreciate your post as it made me feel more at home and not so out of place. Take care of yourself and bless you!

wow gr8ideas and ann I have to say thank you so much for the offer of sending me some die cuts that is most nice of you and it is also nice to know im not the only person with a disability who struggles with card making/crafts. I havent been able to do crafts lately and I am really really wanting to but i know i must rest because i have a big doctors appointment next week and hopefully i will have less recovery time after if i dont do any. I also have depression - secondary from having chronic illness as my friend told me who doesnt? we grieve what we have lost whether that be working or the inability to have a family or whatever...even not being able to do craft every day.
I actually havent worked out all the functions on this forum so I am going to have to investigate how to send a private message LOL. But hopefully i will figure it out or some one will let me know?

Thanks so much for your reply. I am actually trying to make a website because I sell cards for a charity which is US based (and other craft items too) hoping to soon also support an australian one as well. So that has been keeping me quite busy!

Erin....just wondering how you are doing? In your last post you advised that you had a doctors appointment so I just wanted to see if you are okay. I hope I'm not imposing...just thought I'd post a quick line to see how you are. Take Care. PS. I am lost on this site and took me a while just to find you again so I understand that it takes time to get back to people.

gr8ideas thanks so much for asking about me! i understand....i didnt know this but you can send private messages to people if you click my name and click private message it will go to me only. I never knew that private messages existed!

About the doctors appointment it wasnt the most successful appointment that i have had and basically has left me with not a lot of options! to do with pain medications. Hospital system is a bit crappy because they wont admit me to change medications and I am not well enough to do it at home. So it is complicated. However the thing that annoyed me is that the doctor actually was talking about evert symptom OTHER than my pain (which is what he is suposed to be managing - rheumatologist) and it was very frustrating because he was trying to deal with urology neurology and other areas instead of his expertise.

So I am just hanging in there.....

he also has no clue about wheelchairs and misintrepreted what i said last year which was I had a wheelchair appointment - which he interpreted as it was going to be finished - and it is no where near being finished - and have been dealing with making the wheelchair since 09 LONG story

So because of this appointment and other things I havent managed to get a lot of stamping in or card making or crafts in general.

though i have just been asked to make about 3-4 cards for someone. I am raising money for a charity.

thanks for asking about me.

Hello all!

I'm new to the world of crafting. I've always wanted to scrapbook when I was a teenager but couldn't. i just had my second son's first birthday party and ordered all of his decorations from esty as I wanted them to be unique. Once they arrived I was extremely pleased but thought "I could totally to do this!" Then a week later I was given a beautiful handmade capped from a coworker. She pointed me to this site. Now I am looking where to buy supplies and exactly what supplies I need.

Don't be in a rush to buy at lot right away. I suggest you start with a project you want to make and first see what you have that will work. Then buy what you need. The next time you plan a project you may be able to use some things left from project one. Basic tools will last a long time.

I have found that over time styles change and so do your personal preferences so start slow until you can find your own preferences. For tools and adhesives, I find it works well to buy quality items as they last longer and work easier.

Hello, this is my first visit to the site. I stumbled upon it while searching for the right kind of ink, markers or whatever that will dry on glossy paper. I only started stamping a few months ago and love new challenges. So far this glossy paper has the best of me. If anyone has any hints on this I would love to hear from you. I will also check out other parts of this site. This weekend is a nice stamp show in Syracuse NY and will be my very first show. Looking forward to it. I'm retired and can spend all the time I want with my inks, etc. Now to stay out of the craft stores.

Best bet on glossy is dye ink. Pigment must be embossed with powder and a heat gun or it will never dry. Alcohol inks will dry and can be used for backgrounds. Hope this helps.

Have fun at the craft show.

I have found that pigment ink is the most versatile I actually emboss most of my projects I only have one dye ink which is black memento because I was using water Colour pencils to colour in stamps a trick I learnt is memento dye ink doesn't run if you are using water Colour pencils but you can get a different effect by embossing and using the water Colour pencils
I also have watched a number of scrApbooking made simple videos on YouTube and although I don't recommend buying their cos it took about 8 months to receive a order their videos are amazing !
They had one about inks and they explained that chalk dries the quickest dye is next and pigment is longer and so to remember that they said c d p is the order in the alphabet ☺
that is why pigment work for embossing because it takes the longest time to dry

I attended a stamp show a few weeks ago and I even stumped everyone there with my dilemma. I ended up stamping differently and cutting out a second image and attaching it using dimensionals. I almost got the effect I was looking for. I use you tube all thei time to research different projects. I'm going to try stazon on this paper to see if it will dry before it smears. It's incredible the way one project can raise so many issues. I love paper crafting!!,

Hi! I am new here and excited to get to know people and share ideas and when I get the measure of things, swap! I love to make one idea 10 times and then end up with 10 different things. I love to see the handiwork of all you talented ladies out there and learn from you. I have been scrapbooking for years and collecting paper long before that... I am in the middle of reworking my craft room, finally I have a craft room and filled it with crap. SO it's turning (with a lot of help from my dh) from a crap room to a working area where things are organized. I am so excited because I have not really produced anything in that room. I have to drag stuff into the dining room or Michael's classroom to get anything done (I teach classes with ladies from my church there). Ironically, the ladies all wanted a card class and got me to teach it, and that's how I got interested! I scrapbook when I can, make cards, make invitations for activities for our ladies' group at church, decorations for dances, and have recently been working on scrapodex and paper bag projects. I have also used my vast stores to help my children get passing grades in classes other than art that seem to require a whole lot of large projects with a lot of "bling". (I'll have to photograph and show y'all my son's poetry book. I don't think the teacher noticed the poems but LOVED my scrapbook ideas LOL!) Hoping to learn from all of you and love to see challenges and how creative and differently different people take an idea. We are so individual and creative and wonderful! I hope to add to the fun!

Ask questions and someone will try to answer them.

Welcome to Splitcoast! Please let me know if I can help you with anything!

A few good ways to get comfortable and figure out where everything is is to click the "View New Posts" button top left - that will show you the current conversations happening on the site and feel free to dive right in and chat and ask questions.

Second - Click Gallery, and on that grey bar on the top row, click Last Day - that will show you all of today's projects and is a fun way to browse.

Third, on the left sidebar, sign up for our Weekly Inkling Newsletter - this will give you the weekly challenges, a free tutorial with video, great tips and crafty deals.

And as faberino said - alway ask if you need help - everyone is very helpful!

I joined SCS not long ago and have posted some cards. Recently I decided to try the Fan Club but have remained silent because I have difficulty navigating. I'm trying to discover the advantages of joining the club but am feeling underwhelmed. I went to Read Me First but it dates back more than ten years! What can I do to enjoy this club membership?

Hi-
I do need help with this site. I have tried and failed too many times to count anymore to upload my profile picture. I resized it to the requested size; yet, I always get this message: Upload Failed. I'm ready to give up! Thanks, Carol

Hi Carol! Your avatar is what shows up when you post - not your profile pic, so I bet that's the issue. Try this tutorial: Forums at Splitcoaststampers

I was so exited to receive your reply. Just tried to upload a "tiny" (80x80 pixels) file to my custom Avatar, as I think you've probably solved my problem. However, I was disappointed that it didn't work (again, 'upload failed.'

Is it because I use a Mac computer?
Carol
