Understandblue how do you choose the colors for your cards? Do you use a color wheel or do you just start pulling out card stock until you see something you like? Or have you just been doing it so long that you don't have to think about it anymore? I keep buying all of this stuff in the hopes that it will unleash the "cardmaking queen" that I know lives inside of me but I've just become a collector rather than a creator!!!! I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. So I come to this site to get inspired.

Now I'm thinking that I've approached cardmaking, the way I approached this site. Instead of starting with the basics (color and layout), I just dived right in hoping for the best. As my mother would say "just because you're splashing around in the water, it doesn't mean you're swimming" (her way of saying you can work really hard and not accomplish anything). So back to basics.

Okay that first question is really interesting - no one has ever asked me that before. Generally I like contrast, so I almost always use a pair of complementary colors - mostly blue and yellow or blue and orange, pink or purple with green, etc. I think I love a pop of a vivid color against a neutral. I will tell you early on that frustrated me... I did use the color wheel, and I tried to build cards that way. For me, it really squashed my creativity. I produce cards that I'm happier with when I just play to my own preferences for color.

I think we all hoard because we think our stuff is the source of our inspiration, but it's not. Your inspiration is in the same things you've loved all your life - certain colors, types of images, etc. Look around your house - your style will pop right out. Just go with it! All I have to do is open a cabinet and see 4000 pieces of Blue Willow plates and cups and I know what I like

I LOVE your response!!! So true. I've always been draw to cards that are clean and minimal (as far as embellishments) with bold colors on a white backdrop. That totally describes my living space. Ha - and to think it was right here all along.

Thank you

I am fairly new to using a forum. I absolutely love the SCS website and have used it for a lot of inspiration. I am looking for gals who love to craft as much as me and be able to exchange ideas! I started a blog to post the projects I have made and will be posting more soon. I am also thinking about entering some of the things I make in a local upcoming Craft Fair. If I do that can anyone fill me in on what all I need to do as far as filling out Sales Tax paperwork, etc.

Welcome, Jenn!
While I personally do not know what paperwork is advised, you might find some answers by posting your question in our General Stamping forum. It's possible that some of the members have good experience in that area.

Hi Jenn
I can't give you a direct answer but a good thread to check out and also get an answer to your question would be this one - Forums at Splitcoaststampers

Red face Hello beautiful people

Hi, I'm new to this forum and posting in general. I certainly I hope that I am in the right area of this site. I need some help in the computer arena. I'm trying to figure out how to add a watermark to my uploads and no matter how many times I have tried, I 've blotched it up every single time. Can someone please help?

Well hi there! What a cute avatar!!

Here's a thread with a tutorial: Forums at Splitcoaststampers

And if you go to our photography forum and click "search this forum" top right and search for watermark, you should find tons of others.

HTH!

Holiday in USA - My husband and I are travelling to the US at the end of July for 3 weeks and will be going to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. Could anybody please give me some advice on good craft shopping places to visit as I am very keen to hopefully pick up some bargains and take home some different ideas to Australia.

Regards Margo

Thank you for the welcome email. Even though I may not be able to get on here very often, I am sure I will enjoy looking at all the artistic and creative ideas. This place reminds me of another site that I have been on so I'm going to see if I can add a signature now.

Smile Nervous Newbie!!

I've been enjoying looking at all the beautiful creations, and becoming very inspired, so I finally signed up! I've made a grand total of three cards all by myself (lots more in workshops) and I'm so very proud of myself! Maybe one day I'll upload them, but they seem so 'easy' compared to all the others!!

(Hope I've done this right - this is my first time in a forum)! !

Hi RosieFaye!

We're happy to see you here indeed! Please feel welcome to upload your creations and begin your gallery here with us. As you can see throughout the galleries, we have stampers creating at all levels for sure! We all started at the "beginning".

Dear Nervous Newbie,
Beauty is in simplicity, maybe it seems easy to you because you are good at it.
Be brave.

Default I love simplicity!

Some of the cards posted seem to hard to even attempt but really some of the most beautiful cards are the simplest. You go, girl. (Go ahead and post)

Smile I've just joined today!

I would like to say Hi to everyone. This seems a very helpful and informative site. I have been cardmaking for a few years and I have never come across this site before. How I managed to find you I searched out via "Google" a wiper card, and then I found this site. What a WONDERFUL place! I know I will be spending a lot of time on here, learning so many different and beautiful things. I look forward to having chats with all you lovely people.

Dorothy aka craftymac
