Red face New from the Foothills of North Carolina

I am new at posting threads. I've never been one to "chat" on line before. So I am feeling alittle strange right now.
I make cards in the Hickory NC area. I just learned how to make cards about 13 months ago and I picked up on it right away. I had a very good teacher.
Now I'm hooked on them. It's fun and I love to hear comments from other people.
I just do my own thing and I find that rewarding. I love seeing all the cards that are made on Splitcoaststampers.
There are some really fantastic cardmakers out there.

Welcome Deborah!!

I too like doing my own thing. I'm not one to post much either but do like looking and they have some really nice cards on this site and a lot of useful information. Before I purchase anything I look here for the reviews.

Hi Donna,
Thanks for writing. Is there a section within Splitcoast
where you can get a review on items?
The only thing I've been doing is going to the "new Gallery additions" to see all the new cards.

Hi Deborah,

Under forums I look at Tools and Products and everyone will tell you their honest opinions on the products that different ones ask about. I find it very helpful. They also give you the links to the best places to buy. I actually purchased an ATG gun and tape today after reading the reviews from this website.

Hello Marjo,
I just went to your site and read all about Stampin Up! Although I am intrigued with Stampin Up!, I'm not sure I am ready to become a demonstrator at this time. I think I'll check on how many demonstrators there are in the Hickory area first. Is there a way to get that information?

I have family in Winston Salem. Are you North, South, East or West of WS?
Do you ever go to the Enchanted Cottage?

Hi Christine
I have been making cards for our heros but haven't sent any. I sell them at a local car wash.
Do you have an address of a special soldier who could use a boost.
Thanks for welcoming me.

I love the Enchanted Cottage. I visit there often. My house is probably 10 minutes from there. I usually try and go there when I know what I need because I can stay there for several hours and not even notice the time has gone by.
The Enchanted Cottage is in Lewisville and Pfafftown is a part of Lewisville(we were annexed by Lewisville) they just didn't change the name.
I am not sure of the direction - I have several ways to get home. If you have been to the Enchanted Cottage there is a road right before you get to the Cottage that will take you out to Pfafftown.

You are close! That would put you North West of Winston Salem.
I am 50 minutes from the Clemmons exit off of I40, so I don't get to go to the Enchanted Cottage very often.
I receive their news letter on line. They have by far the best selection of stamps I've seen. Hickory has ACMoore, Michaels and Hobby Lobby but the selection is small.
I'm due for a trip out that way. I need some inspiration.
I'm having a creative block these past few days. I'm supposed to be running errands right now but I'm intrigued by this site. I better get moving or the bills won't get paid. Deborah

Hey, Deborah, you have to check this link out. We have a group of demos in NC that meet quarterly, and have a grand time. Our Yahoo group is more intimate than SCS, so it may be a great addition to your new hobby! Check it out here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NC_SUDemos/

Hope you consider joining the group. Who is your upline?

Hi Airel
Are any of your group members from Hickory, Conover or Newton?
I am not a SU member. I'm new to Splitcoast. I have been making cards on my own for about a year. I started out scrapbooking and a friend showed me her cards and I fell in love with her style. So I thought I would give it a try. I've been making cards ever since. Do I have to be a SU Member to join your group in NC?
I'm heading out the door to run those pesky errands that often get in my way of fun. I'll check my e-mail when I get home. We have sunshine, yeah! Deborah
While I'm thinking of it, how do I upload a picture of myself?

I ran my errands and I can finally relax and enjoy browsing through Splitcoast although I have to start dinner in 15 minutes. Where does the time go.
I tried to upload a picture of my bestest buddy Toby. I guess I'll know if I did it right when I submit this reply.
No stamping today. I am in a stamping block. Hopefully it won't last too long. I really need to work on Easter cards.
Can anyone tell me if there is a convention in Winston-Salem this spring? I attended last years and enjoyed it.

Where is the picture of Toby?
Does it take a while? Does it have to be reviewed or something? Please, someone let me know....

Goodmorning Donna
I am really getting into this. Little by little I am finding my way around the site.
I tried to upload a picture of my Yorkie yesterday and it's not showing up yet. I e-mailed the web-master to see if the picture was too large. According to my calculations, it was just the right size.
Anyway, I am enjoying looking at all the wonderful cards in the gallery. It just blows me away; these ladies are so talented. Have a great weekend.

Hi abmurray,
I just finished looking at your cards...love the green folded card with the belly band and brads.
I left you a message below that card. That is my style of card except that I have not made a folded one yet. Are there directions for it?
There is a lot of work in the making of that card and it's very striking.

Ah oh Deborah!!!! My name is Deborah too!!! If I'd been the least bit thoughtful maybe I would have used the name Deborah's Creations - but as it is I am stuck with debzi333!!!! LOL!!!! But, I have always gone by Deborah!

Welcome to SCS!!!! No, you certainly don't have to be an SU stamper ... as you'll find if you look into my gallery!!

Enjoy - this is a big website - and if I might sugggest it - try a daily challenge when you get comfortable - it is the best way to get to know people!!!

And don't feel shy - every level and type of stamper and scrapper are on SCS!!!

Welcome from Vancouver Canada!

Hi Deborah,
After a walk around the block with my Toby, I am finally in the drivers seat at the computer. Thanks for the coment on Toby. He rules this house.
Love your gallery. I'm not sure my cards can come close to what I've been seeing so far. It may take me a while to work up enough corage to upload a card.
I finally found a picture small enough to put under my name. How did you get a photo of yourself so small. All my pictures are really too large and I can't seem to make them small enough (15.6 KB). Course I've been trying to do this on my own. I may have to crawl to my son and ask for his help. I hate when our kids know more than we do.
This may seem like a dumb question but what is "I've been Elfed" mean?

Hi Deborah!

I am just laughing a little at your comments and questions!! Well, how did I get a picture so small?? It's just a regular digital photo from my digital camera - but only my son ( not me or my husband ) can figure that stuff out!! I can take a picture of my card and upload it to my gallery - but that techie stuff like the link from gallery - well - I had to enlist the help of my son, who is 17. Even my dh is techno challenged!!!!

As for I've been elfed - in November someone started a thread suggesting we send a small Christmas gift anonymously to another, but let the person leading the thread know who had been * elfed* So, in other words, some decided to elf me - and to let other people know I was already a recipient of a gift we were to put the words - I've been elfed into our signature line. Again, my son did it for me ( our 23 year old won't help! ) and since I haven't gotten Wm to help me remove it - it still remains. Maybe I'll get his help to remove it!

Do crawl to your son!! The other thing is the people at SCS kinda figure out how to make card pictures the right size in terms of the bits and bytes!! I am not so certain about the the avatar pic of me though - if you start a new thread asking - how do I upload the right sized picture to my avatar - you will be certain to have all sorts of people on SCS walking you through it. People are very helpful here!!

But - you should start a new thread with that question - otherwise people will assume you are just introducing yourself in this thread.

Don't be afraid to upload a card at all!! I was so anxious when I first did my first challenge - I had really no idea of what to do or expect -and it all went over quite well.

I suggest going to the homepage and looking at ( it is in small letters ) today's uploads - that way you can look at what people upload all day and get an idea of the big variety of cards that people put in their galleries!!

Or, just go watch cards go by in the main gallery as they are uploaded ( remember to refresh your screen ever couple of minute - or whenever you are ready to see more cards - and go ahead a make a kind comment or two!!

All cards are special!!!

I have a border terrier named Geordie.. I am very partial to dogs! Your dog is so cute!!!

Look - you are ahead of me already in that you have created your own avatar without the help of your son ( your cute turtles! ) Hey -when I first started on SCS - I didn't know how to upload a card from my camera!!! Finally my son got impatient with me and wrote down the instructions!!!I've caught on - but it took me a couple of months!! I scanned my cards in at first as that was all I knew how to do!

SCS is a big site and quite complex at first - but just jump in and it will soon be like a second home to you!

have a great day - and now I must get out with my dh for some exercise!!! I promise to watch your gallery so I can comment on all your beautiful cards!!

Deborah, I just got back to this today so I am sorry to have missed your question. There is a huge group of us that make cards, send to several wonderful people who package and send to different locations. The website is www.cardsforheroes.org so please, feel free to check it out and jump in and join us. Thank you for asking. I tried to send a private message but couldn't. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Just so you know, often when you upload or change an avatar pic or your pic of your yorkie ( not cards ) it takes a while for SCS to actually make the changes ( like 6 - 24 hours ) not sure why!

Good morning Deborah,
I had fun reading your reply this morning. You helped answer a bunch of questions that I had.
DH was watching over my shoulder this morning while I was showing him my profile. I told him what I was trying to do with the avetar picture and he enthusiactically began helping me, which turned quickly into frustration. But I was watching what he was doing and I may give it a try later on today.
Last night I felt like I was coming down with a cold so I went to bed at 7:30, slept like a rock, with only two bathroom trips. Woke this morning at 7:30 and I feel so much better.
Toby must have known I wasn't feeling good because he let me sleep in.
We are up every morning at 5:00 a.m. for coffee and chit chat before DH leaves for work at 7:00.
Our furry children are pretty intuituve.
I have some cards sitting around my craft room that I may take pictures of today.
My cards are so much different than those on this site.
I love the Emerson ladies and make a lot of cards using them.
I'm squirming in my seat just thinking about downloading my cards. It's not the download process that has me squirming, it's the fact that mine are so different.
I'll give it more thought before doing anything.
I enjoy your replys , please keep them coming.

Hi Deb,
Thanks for the reply.
I am having a ball looking around the site. There is so much to see. I keep going deeper and deeper into everyone's galleries.
Such great work from all over the world. It just amazes me!

Can't wait to see your Yorkie and some of your cards. I have an Aussie (obviously!) and love her very much, along with two outdoor cats (I live on an acreage in Iowa) named Ricky (I had a Lucy too) and Half-Pint. Hope to hear more from you!

I did it, I did it! After DH left the house I played around with what he showed me, or tried to show me, and I did it! I got my picture to fit the criteria, yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've only been at it for a few hours and my butt is numb, but hey, I didn't have to crawl to my son for help and that means alot to me since he is 5 hours away in Richmond, VA. Just think of the wear and tear I saved on my knees!
I think I need to get up and move around a bit, maybe go do some extra thick embossing on some chip board I painted the other day.
I haven't gotten the camera out to take pictures of my cards.
Still procrastinating.....
It's almost 2:00, no wonder I'm hungry!

Hi Deborah!
Welcome to SCS...this is the place to be! You will find so much inspiration here. As you have already noted there are some very talented stampers that contribute to SCS. Everyone here is so eager to help so if you have a guestion don't hesitate to ask for help.
Statesville is not too far away. I have been a Stampin' Up! demo for 6 months and love it. My upline lives in Lewisville. She is awesome. If you would like to get more info on becoming a Stampin' Up! demo let me know. Maybe we can get you to one of our meetings so you can meet all of us.

Check out my SU website: www.stampingirl.stampinup.net.

Hi Becky,
I am having so much fun with this site. I learned how to upload a picture of myself for the avetar. It took me severl hours to figure it out but I did it. I am not computer challenged for the most part, but making the picture small enough made me think harder. That has to be a good thing.
Anyway, thanks for welcoming me.

Hello Melissa,
As you know, I'm just getting my feet wet on Splitcoast and I'm enjoying looking at everyones work. It boggles my mind to see all of the talented people out there. I want to take my time and absorb as much as I can for now.
Thank you for inviting me to meet your group of SU friends.
I will have to decline for now. I like to take things slow and take in all the newness that this site has to offer.
Again, thanks for writing.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. It was anice day here in Greensboro. The ladies at PEO sang to me today too. I have to say I was somewhat embarrassed. Mitzie gave me a neat card too. She has beautiful background going on, but I absolutely cannot figure out how she did it. It looks like there are several steps involved. I think she may have started with Twinkling H2O paints. I know this is the type of background that you would really like.

Hi Gail,
Happy Birthday! I'm glad you had a wonderful day, you deserve it!
Can you bring Mitzi's card with you on your next visit? I would love to see it.
I sent you a picture that I downsized for you so that you could add it under your username in the thread. Did you get the picture?
I wish I could do it from here for you.
I didn't even ask you if you liked the picture? I'll leave it up to you.
