It is not a specific yarn. The ornament is one of the clear glass ones with 2-3 little bundles of yarn inside, a wooden crochet hook attached at the top and a label that says "break in case of emergency". I don't need much to make a little bundle (almost like extension cords when you buy them but way smaller so they can fit inside the hole for the ornament).

I'm too lazy to go back and remove the message so far but here's a pic of it.

So, just scrap yarn? I can definitely send you some sport or sock scraps. How many colors?

I have enough hooks to make 3-4 (I don't remember exactly right now). The most important one for me is for my sister who crochets a lot.

I'm also going to make a few with coal in the globe and "Take a Hike" on the outside with a ribbon hanger for my department chair. She likes to hike.

DD2 just gave me the courage to say no to something. One of the moms at the cafe meet this morning is an Usborne book leader. She was talking about the color personality test. I asked her about it and I guess what she was talking about was in a book that she sells. That's handy LOL! She sent me a photo of the little test and then when I mentioned what I got on it she mentioned having the book and buying for the Family Resource Center (where playgroup is and something I need to browse and see what all they have!) lending library and would I like a copy? Um.... So DD2 gave me the courage to say no thanks. She was fine about it of course, but still. I know that is one way ladies become good friends through parties and such but I've had a few and don't desire to do the in house party stuff anymore. So I know that is one strong way I'm not getting in with groups of ladies...but it is what it is. I can't keep up with the Jones' that's for sure!

And really, if she is buying it for the lending library, I can check it out for free from there!!!!

How are we all doing?

Good here! I did great on vacation. Had bought something, but returned it! So I only spent $10 reloading my Starbuck's card!

I also have 4 shirts to return to Lands End. . I thought they were the perfect shirt, but the last few times I've put them on, they've felt shorter and faded. I have one that is still brand new, so last evening I finally compared and sure enough, three of the ones I've worn some have all shrunk. And the black one has faded. They have a 100% guarantee, so they all going back. I hate pulling at a shirt b/c it's too short waisted!

We will go back to school shopping at some point this month. I have funds saved up and so the final test will be staying within budget. A test I simply must pass!!

DH gave me some vacation funds in my house/grocery account and I didn't use very much of it. So I'm looking to keep that account better padded with those extra funds in there now.

So overall, doing well. It's always a challenge to keep within my constraints, but I'm learning and hopefully growing. Just can't believe how little I can spend now that I'm on a budget and saving for different things. Next month and September I will be able to buy within the means that I've saved...new sneakers, new boots, new fall/winter trench coat and then a few fall clothes as they go on sale. Yay! So that is a bit rewarding!!

Except for this weekend...I've done well...last night as I was still searching for the Spellbinders Large Oval Scalloped die which is what sent me on the search in the first place...I said to Don...

I'm finished. I can't let myself do this again for a very long time!

When he sees how little I spend on crafting compared to his wood tool purchases he laughs...but I think having spent $50 somewhat impulsively was terrible.

He has a great system happening at Menard's with their rebate items such that I was able to purchase new dog food and water dishes for the dogs and they didn't cost me anything as they were free after rebate...and we used rebate money which then you don't even pay taxes...

Okay, so the postage costs but he will send in one fat envelope for 49 cents (if that is what postage is right now, I don't know since I have forever stamps on hand!)

Wow what a deal!

I've not been spending much craft money as I haven't been crafting. Just finding it hard to get motivated and inspiration is lacking.

I made a couple of orders and bought some yarn. I'm on a hard craft freeze now. The only things that are maybe exceptions are highly seasonal things that won't be around once they sweep the summer stuff away for fall or secondhand type finds. If it will keep, it needs to keep. I might buy yarn or fabric as my vacation souvenirs. That and all the HEB decaf iced tea bags.

I am trying to be better with my grocery shopping, but I still spend a LOT at the stores. I definitely need to be better about assessing what I have before I go to the store. This past week I made my list, stuck pretty close, and tracked the costs, but I still had to go to the store last night to pick up 4 basics that I thought we were better stocked on that we ran out of over the weekend. #doh

I found the perfect way to keep from spending money when I went to town with DD this morning. I removed all money, check cards, credit cards, etc, from my wallet! I had six cents in my change purse, though, so I gave that to the Salvation Army bell ringer. I did see a few things I would have spent mindlessly on. It wouldn't have been a lot, and it would have been something we would use, but it was so good for me to realize that, "I really shouldn't get this today", actually meant, "There is no way possible for me to get this today, so don't even bother looking." Sooo good for me!!!!!

Doing ok, not great, not awful. Found a kids resale shop yesterday. I'm really excited about that. I don't always save money, but it's my favorite way to buy clothes.

Oh my! So I return some crackers today to the local grocery store so I can get them cheaper at Walmart with Ibotta and the ad price comparison deal Walmart does. Thing is today they started no longer doing the price comparison with competitor's ads. What???? My luck!!! LOL! So the return was for no avail, b/c with just the Ibotta coupon, the price will be the same as the grocery store. I tell ya'!!!

I did get a great deal on dishwasher soap at Target with sale price and cartwheel deal. Also on Larabar Bites! So you win some, lose some. Trying hard to win more but man, it can about do ya' in trying to win all the marketing games!!!

They stopped price matching in Okla over a year ago. So annoying... but now, I don't live close enough to a Walmart for it to matter.

I went to Target yesterday and stuck to my list and my list was only those groceries that are cheapest at Target + a Wizard of Oz dress for Eden that is gorgeous, plus Jeff and I were both in different productions of the Wizard of Oz and I saw his production before we ever met. It's special.

Today, I'm going to Aldi and Hyvee for the rest of the groceries and I will try to stick to my lists (that I still need to make) there as well.

I still haven't bought any craft stuff. I am using what I have. I might go to the yarn shop this weekend because they are having a sale and if any of the yarn I am wanting for a sweater is on sale then it would be worth it to go ahead and buy now. I need at least 5 skeins.

I thought I might need one item from the DTGD shopping list, but remembered another place I could look. I found it! It's a little old, but surely for whatever I'll need it for, it will work.

I'm so excited! I came in 65 cents under my back to school budgeted amount. Close, but not over so I'm very happy. She had some spendier things we got so that is good to have those things gotten. I feel like she got a nice assortment of things needed...a few dressy tops, a few t-shirts, and then under garment stuff. Along with the usual school supplies. So we're good!!! Yay! I'm so relieved.

I didn't spend much on myself either. Said no to to a few things I likely could have let myself get.

Now to focus on getting some fall/winter things for the littles. Have a separate budget allotment for them so all is well!

65 cents! Yeah...bank roll it now...you have now seen that you can say yes to needs and still have change!

I did not print a Michael's coupon, instead used my phone app...big deal to me because I don't like figuring out my phone. Bought only black embossing powder, paused at the dies (I'm looking for scalloped ovals and now oval bliss for Hannah), paused at the paper and said, nope, not good enough for the sale price...and I left...so proud of my accomplishment!

Only bought what was on my list at Costco, Kwik Trip and Target!

Am going to return corn holders to Target because it appears we will not be having corn today.

I am not going to JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby when I am in Rochester...am not! There is nothing I need, I already have more than enough.

What I need to do is spend time in the stamp room using what I have! Lots of fun stuff in that stamp room.

Oh the dilemma!! Figuring out which trench coat I really want. Figuring out what fall clothes I really want. I did just order two vests in different colors at Target that were finally on sale and I've had my eye on them and my mind...so I think that's a win purchase hopefully. Maybe I won't need both colors, but I got em' because I wear vests all fall and all winter! #uniform

Checked in with my budget and I'm good. I got a little free with my own personal account on our shopping trip. But not too badly...just glad I did at least say no to several purchases!!

So the saving continues. It MUST! I'm not going to worry about what I need for fall right now. I just need to get four outfits for next week's church convention. I can shop/think about fall the first week in September. Hopefully!

Ok. I did place an order. Lands End had two down vests on clearance...last year's colors but that's fine by me. I actually NEEDED a new Ivory colored one b/c my old one had gotten stained and dirty. Yay! And a royal blue color which is a cheerful color I love for winter. Ordered a denim dress that I may or may not like but this is something I've been in the market for so...that was on the need list of my mind. And some layering long sleeve tee's. Score. Sale and a few on clearance. I can decide my mind when they all get here when we get back. Then I'll be heading up to the city soon after that so returns will be easy to do. Done.

Checking in at the close of another month. Wow, where does time go?

I know there are greater concerns on Earth right now, but writing about this each month is good for me to sort through my thoughts and feelings.

I think September is going to be a spending freeze month. I'm still spending too much on treats. But then again, that happens more in the summer. So I'm hope to kick start a new season with a tighter grip on things and keep in check.

I need to go back and see when we started our budget together...it's been several months now and I haven't NOT gone in debt with my own accounts. #thankful. But it's been hard, I won't deny that. But worth it. Lots of thinking, lots of decisions. I keep thinking I'll save up money for the next season's clothing purchases and be able to have enough to buy whatever I want. But you know what? That's a fantasy. But it's also a learning process for me to see that I don't need everything I want, nor will I ever have enough money for everything I want. But I will have enough for what I need. I do love the wardrobe capsule "love it or leave it" as I buy new things and the "love it or purge it" as I get my bins out and sort and hang up the new season's clothing.

The learning process is ongoing about how much I "treat" myself and or the kids for bad days or moods or whatever! I'm learning little by little to smile and breathe and treat myself to some quiet time or other gentle self-care approach. I look forward to getting back to my disciplined eating habits. I'm working at refreshing my morning and evening routines and also talking to myself about keeping offline until these routines are fully and mindfully done.

Ok! That's a load, but has been on my mind the last few days as I approach a new month.

Today I went to Target to return two folders. I told myself I could check out the $ spot, but guess what?? There was hardly anything in it except for a few summer things that are 70% off! So I got to walk out with nothing. Also went to Hobby Lobby for string lighting and that's ALL I bought. I touched a few things, but said no in my mind! Whew!

Rebekah thank you for sharing. I am working hard on telling myself that I don't need stuff from Hobby Lobby...there are things that I do need...I needed 3/8" elastic...so I bought it and nothing else.

Was talking to someone today and reminding myself that I am helping my community by the cards I donate to the infusion bay...and I found out today how much the people who use the cards appreciate my gift...and the nurse today asked if the staff could use some of the sympathy cards for when a patient dies. I said YES...and she talked about another infusion bay who sends birthday cards to their patients SO...that little bug in my ear will tickle me into making more birthday cards so our little local hospital can be as good or better than the other one!!!!

Keep at it Rebekah, you are inspiring me to keep at it too!

Melissa's counterfeiting has rubbed off on me a lot in my stamp and sewing rooms.

Well, here I am again. Another month gone by. Not 100% success on my spending freeze...mainly bc I forgot about it a bit...

Like I mentioned on the main thread, it's a constant battle to reign in thoughts of "I want" with "I don't need it". I'm getting rid of lots of clutter and don't need to replace it LOL! Toys mainly right now. Though Asher has a birthday coming up. I'd like to use his birthday money for a new bedding set and paint for his room. It's still pink from Phebe being in it!!

I'm struggling with some money I have set aside for new boots. But I don't need new boots....I love the ones I have, plus I got that nice $5 pair at a garage sale this summer. The old person of me would take that money and throw it around like confetti LOL. The new me says nope. Don't touch it. I just feel like I'm in a weird place right now and I don't want to spend/buy b/c it would be out of emotional need rather than true need. And shopping is something I really dread lately. The littles are so into everything and neither content in a cart. And it turns me into a mother I do not like being. And to go shopping by myself would have to be at a time when other things are more valuable to me...like my night out to plan the next week or a Saturday morning when I'm home mostly alone and that is way too precious of time! Dilemmas, dilemmas!

And today I'm terribly hormonal so it all feels overwhelming. So maybe I'll let this be for now.

My goal this week is to really think through my wants/needs before I get my first paycheck on Friday. What I have found these past few weeks since I started working is that I don't have a ton of time for anything "fun" and even less energy. Katlyn and I each got a "Happy Planner" from Me and My Big Ideas and I am using it to journal my day each day when I get home (Faye, it is like the one that Emily had but a little smaller.) It gives me a tiny bit of creativity (I get to put stickers on the page!) and a tiny bit of journaling space and that's about all the energy I've had for creative things, so it has been perfect. I make a card or two during the week, but mostly for something in particular like the CAS challenge or Your Next Stamp challenge. Blogging is down to about once a week. Cross Stitch is maybe once a week as well. I went through my concordance last night and picked out three months worth of verses about God's love and I want to write out / hand letter one each day through the end of the year. I'm doing that in my Hobonichi planner because I love, love, love the paper in it. It's thin like Bible paper! So what I need right now - especially creatively - is really not a lot, but I want to budget ahead for some things that will be coming up in the future... 3/4 length sleeve shirts, $$ for Black Friday or end of year sales, new shoes every few months when mine wear out, stuff like that. Oh, and I want to reload my Starbucks card. I usually treat myself to an iced coffee once a week after I go to the chiropractor. But my main use for the money I'll bring home is to pay down debt, so I really want at least 50% of it (and preferably about 75% of it) to go that way. That will be next week's budgeting challenge!!

I do not enjoy shopping like I used to. And when I do it usually ends up being pricy!!! I feel you, though. Shopping when you are in a funk usually only makes things funkier. Hang on if you can and then maybe it will be the perfect treat later!

I was a bit spendy for a while and I'm feeling very back on board (although with a few birthday treats, so maybe not as on board as I think). (A berry toned lipstick and a t-shirt that I cannot stop thinking about.) I still need fall shoes and another pair of jeans, too.

I want to change my crafting mindset from "what do I need to make what I want" to "what can I make with this cool stuff I have." At least most of the time. I'm ready to spend money on boring things like organization and refills for things that are actually low on ink not preemptive refills for things I may never use up.

And with other stuff, I'm not ready to go capsule wardrobe and I think the only way I will ever be a minimalist is if I physically lose all my stuff, but I'm starting to ask myself what if I didn't have this option or that option? What if I just had one? Or none? I struggle with it because I have a strong tendency to go small. If it's one big thing or a bunch of little things for the same amount of money, 9 times out of 10 I get the small things, which isn't always the right choice. Figuring out when to spend is difficult for me.

Rebekah, I say...get a pickle jar and put your extra cash in it! Some day when you want to go shopping just for the fun you can take your cash...and you might surprise yourself and come home with cash again! I did that recently...felt like I had finally gotten a handle on my spending for the moment.

Another bonus for me is not having spent the $25 winning yet from DTGD. I know what I want but if I have to pay shipping then I don't want to order the set from where my winning is as I could order it from a different place where I do want something else and paying shipping twice is not what I want to do...SO...the code sits in my cart while I wait to hear from the company about paying shipping on a free gift! I will prefer to give the gift to someone who actually wants to order from that company.

I do plan to purchase more pillowcase fabric for boy donations but I want to wait until my "craft" fund is at least $50 so I can do 5 pillowcases at once. What I learned is that I want to do the cases in similar colors so that when I wash the fabric I don't have to wash so many "color" loads!

I always learn on this thread...thanks for your posts.

I have looked at Concord&9th 4 times through very thoroughly and have decided that what I want is all I want!

Will pay the $5 shipping and really am very happy about not spending to get free shipping!

Feels good.

Good to hear!

I wonder if we have anything local that would use / love donated cards.

Just got my budget down in black and white for myself. Argh! Just no wiggle room. So I'll have to use the money I'm saving up for a new iPad (which is hardly anything so I think I'm not going to worry about saving for that right now...) for the craft stuff I need for Falliday. Which isn't much. So far this year I don't think I've spent more than $25 on craft stuff.

Just gotta' keep plugging along. It is what it is. One income = not a lot of wiggle room LOL! Will check in at the consignment shop and see if I have money waiting there. I just got a new coffee card and have change enough for another one I think, so I could use some of that change b/c I own't need another coffee card for a bit if I remind myself that treats are treats. Once a week if that. Yep, I can do this. Have been plugging away and have no choice but to keep plugging away! The stone work on the house came in at much lower than we expected so maybe we can give some of our accounts a little bonus?? Will see!!
