Lots of swirling unformed thoughts, atm. So for now, I'll just go with a list of the things I have to work on. Sort of a brain dump to help me figure out what my goals are.

Cards:
Amelia birthday
Dad birthday
Viv birthday
Jackson birthday - pokemon
Baby cards x 3 (2 boy, 1 girl)
Thanksgiving cards
McCormick kid birthday cards x3
Hanukkah cards
Holiday cards

Sewing:
Finish aprons
Burp cloths
Geranium dress?
Gift bags
Making skirt?

Fiber:
Make a list of temps, work on blanket, start second blanket
Finish front of portico, cast on back
Finish honey cowl
Knit chomper hats for boys
Crochet tardis for Ezra

Mending:
costumes
jeans
TOMS
leggings
tunnel

Other:
scrubs
candles (I'd need to get wax and wicks. I have tons of glass containers.)

I made a set of eight notecards (4 each of two designs) for the basket raffle. That's a good start!!

Morning!

Here are a few goals... or at least targets!

Cross Stitch
1) Finish Harvest cross stitch
2) Stitch a bookmark
3) Make some reachable goals for next year

Knitting
1) Make 2+ Diagonal Dishcloths each month
2) Buy yarn for baby blanket
3) Knit at least one row a day on baby blanket

Crocheting
1) Crochet 2 rows a day on blanket

Cards
1) 15 + #50in50
2) Extra Christmas / Holiday cards
3) 5 Gift Card Holders

Plus - Decide on something as a little coworker gift for Christmas. Maybe make a Hershey Nugget Cake.

Snort! I just figured out the time that this will take... hmmm...
Best to set goals high, right? Just maybe I will reach a number of them by the end of the year!!!

There are a few monthly challenges that I like to do & the month is almost over. Need to see which one closes first & see if I can cross a few off of my list this week.

I didn't even think to add those to my list!

I would like to participate in the MISTI challenge, I don't expect to win but I do like the challenge of challenging myself using the MISTI.

I'm not sure where to put this, so I guess I'll put it here. I made a card yesterday. I knew what I wanted to do and was kind of excited about it. But then I couldn't find half the things that I was looking for and I quite honestly hated every second of making it, which took 3 times as long as it should have and didn't end up like I wanted at all. I don't have places for my things and the few things that do have places get changed all the time because Eden gets into things.

I used to craft for me-time. I used to craft for quiet. I used to have a door. We've been here 1.75 years and I still haven't figured out how to shift my crafting into something else. It's aggravating when it used to be either soothing or energizing. I don't really want to pack it all in boxes until Eden is in school like I was very seriously considering in the heat of my meltdown, but this is not working. I told Jeff that it feels like I lost my best coping mechanism and now it's just a display for all my biggest deficiencies.

So, I'm pretty sure a lot of my creative time in this period needs to go towards figuring out what I want to be doing, how I can do it, and what I am going to do with the rest of my stuff. Which is my least favorite use of creative energy, but that's why I'm in the mess I'm in.

Paula first of all (((Hugs))

I don’t know if this will help, but I’ve found myself in a similar situation as often as we have moved. I have a hard time creating in chaos... but if I don’t know how I want my stuff organized, then I spend all of my creative time trying to organize & then I don’t have time for creating. So... I will gather the items needed for the one project & take them to the table. I create my project... then clear the table. I had to have separate creating & organizing times until I had my stuff organized enough that it didn’t cause me stress.

((Hugs)). I'm right there, too, Paula. I have ideas and plans and goals for cards, but when I think of my stamp room I'm paralyzed because it is a disaster and I don't have the time right now to devote to working on it. So when I do work on cards I feel like I am stealing time from things that are more important like cleaning...

I know that you are going to do great figuring out what works for you, and I hope you will share as you go. I always learn from you!

Misti, I love your idea. How do you deal with carrying all your tools around? Like if you need to die cut something or cut layers. Are they in some sort of a container that you carry with you, or do you have your tools in a special spot in your house??

Well.... we are still in temporary housing, most of our stuff is still in storage in Okla. So what I do here is only because I have found I absolutely NEED to create in order to keep my sanity. And this season is so incredibly intense, so I have found a system that works for me here.

Oh my Paula, sounds just like me with a few variations. So similar though. Asher just doesn't do well when I'm in the studio. He always has to be up on the studio getting into things b/c he just can't keep himself occupied for very long which means I have to keep turning away from what I"m doing which is not enjoyable b/c I can't get into my zone.

I've been so tempted to just bring up what I need b/c when we did our basement remodel and everything was packed up, I brought the most important things up to the dining room and I did so much creating then b/c it was ALL right there. I loved it. Going downstairs just has some kind of psychological issue for me. It's a mess like you say and b/c I'm not down there much I can't remember where stuff is.

I love Misti's idea, but I'm wondering how I make time to go down and pack up what I need?? I have lots of Pinterest ideas so that would be a great starting point for knowing what cards I want to make....

....I'm also going off of social media a bit more in the next several days and I'm hearing that does wonders for creative mojo returning and finding pockets of time...

Rebekah, I hope you find what works for you. I have found I need some sort of social media time for creativity or I really struggle. I have experimented with several different things & have found what works for me & re-evaluate as life changes. It works amazing as long as I follow the system!

I don't think a complete going away is going to work for me either. Do you just give yourself certain time frames in a day?

I had to figure out what parts were helping my creativity & what was a time suck or not beneficial. And I donít mean it was bad... but techniques that I donít have the stuff for & has me searching for places to buy them... or following people that donít inspire my creativity... they followed me, so I followed them back or 8 years ago I liked their style & now one of us has changed.

Now when I get on I donít have to wade through a bunch of stuff. I set my timer during my on-line times & stick to it.

Iíve found challenges that I like to play in that help my creativity & have several group of people to chat with about different challenges, etc.

I have also found that I canít read all of the books I want, spend as much time with my boys, be extra creative in the kitchen, etc etc AND craft. So I had to figure out my time budget & see what was realistic in this phase of life.

I think this is the main thing right here for me. If crafting is not the restorative/energizing thing it used to be for me then I either need to find a way for it to be that again - finding a spot in my house for my things to live, planning out messier/more involved/dangerous projects so on those days I'm alone I know what I want to do, storing/purging things that don't work in my life right now - or let this fade into the background for now and find something else that will give me the energy I need. But I have to get real about my expectations, my priorities, and my actual real life schedule.
And some of that stuff needs to happen regardless. I need to find real homes for my things, but I need to decide if that home is a big rubbermaid bin that I only get out to make the odd birthday card for a few years (like my bead stuff, fabric, etc) or if it's a much more accessible and active part of my life. And I need to be real about how unlikely I am to put a bunch of stuff up. One card's worth, pretty decent. Three card's worth, doubtful. More than that, almost nil.

Time budgeting is so hard for me right now. So much I love to do and do do, but so much I love to do that I'm not doing!! And I can't block off time per day for certain things quite yet with Asher still home. He's a busy, intense little guy so I never know what our day may need to hold!!

I used to do a priorities list. I would write things down that weíre priorities for my down time. By having the list, it also helped me realize there were bits of time I could work on items on the list.

I need to pull out my daily routine lists. They've been hibernating all summer... They would be a good start.

I got photos edited, uploaded and ORDERED.

Now I've got a long list of cards to make and it just keeps getting longer.

I made Amelia's birthday card last night and I didn't want to throw anything. (Still really missed my door, though! She was being all nosy about it and wouldn't leave me alone.)

I have not made any huge dents, but I'm being a lot looser with what goes in the trash and what goes in the donation pile. I doubt it looks that on the outside, but I know it.

I also decided I don't really like oxide ink. I don't hate it. It has it's uses. I'm definitely keeping the ones I have, but I greatly prefer distress ink.
