Ha...

Gave up having family gatherings also as "family" is understood to be more than husband and wife...

Trust me, husband and wife still party...I no longer include in my plans for others who would be understood to be part of "family"

Days go quickly, I realize I enjoyed 24 years of their lives, I no longer have the expectation that life will include them and I am at a point where I can enjoy other people who are not "family" but are dear to me.

Check my calendar...tomorrow we will have Baby Grand, that will be our own little party!

Made my bread at home and saved $6-$10. Also, I found $10 in my jeans pocket while doing laundry!

#small victories

Yesterday I went to Michaels to pick up some planner note paper that DD in FL wanted, but her Michaels didn't have. And didn't buy anything for myself except a $10 gift card with the fun $$ I had not spent from the last paycheck. Now I can buy guilt free later!

Today I went grocery shopping and came in $1.50 under budget. That is a BIG win for me!!

Awesome!! Do you have a bread machine? What kind of bread do you buy for that price? Or is it just several loaves. I'm still looking for a decent GF recipe.

No bread machine. It's challah and I need two loaves. They are $3 a loaf at Trader Joe's, which is farther away, and $5 a loaf at Hyvee. I've been buying it because it tastes better (I feel like I have to cut the sugar and use whole wheat flour) and because I have trouble getting things to rise and be the right consistency. But I gave myself more time, turned on the oven low to get it to rise, and used closer to the right sugar amounts and a mix of all-purpose and wheat flours. Everyone liked it except Amelia.

Good girl.

I don't even need anything or know what I want to spend it on. I think I am just unsettled and my "fight or flight" response is triggered. ... and I think I just figured out why. OK! Off to make a cup of coffee and deal with it!! Thanks for listening!!

I'm with you...realized I have some craft money but I'm answering Misti's questions and it isn't going anywhere soon.

I had to ask myself those questions earlier today.

I got an email from Joann Fabric with a $5 off coupon because of MLK Jr day. I went back & looked at the Distress Oxide inks... then remembered that I told myself I had to actually use the 2 that I purchased before I could buy any more. So I clicked off & deleted the coupon. Using the inks today isn't the priority, so I will wait. They go on sale frequently & there is a 40% off coupon from HL every week. Plenty of opportunities to purchase them if I decide I like them.

Coffee always helps!

I just decluttered about 6 bins and emptied FIVE of them...I'm feeling very unmotivated to buy stuff right now seeing how much I just got rid of that I bought and never used...

OK, so like I said on the main thread just now, I did spend a little money on something I've been dying for and finally found at Target. My friend took a photo of where they were in her store...LETTERBOARDS! At a fraction of the price of the spendy ones online! Yay! And it's got a nice grey frame which I love. So it wasn't an impulse buy, but likely probably not a good expense for my #nospendJanuary. But then I sold all my SMASH stuff for $25. Done!

I've been very good all month otherwise....

And I scored on great Ibotta rebates on things I did need. So I've got about $32 to transfer to my grocery account.

Why a letterboard?

I know at least one of you has Heidi Swapp light box.

I started seeing letterfolk letterboards about 2 years ago online and really liked them, but they were pricy and I was afraid they were too trendy for me. I kept seeing them, kept liking them. I gave a gc to a friend so she could get one and she loved it. I decided I would get one as a housewarming gift to myself. I did get it on sale, but it wasnt cheap. It was important to me to buy from them because their Instagram account and people using their boards are the reasdon I fell in love with them in the first place.

Nothing wrong with that!

What do you use it for?

ETA - posting at the same time! Is that your board?

Yes, that's mine. It sits on my corner cabinet in my kitchen. I'm not a natural decorator and I love that I can change it up. It can be clever or sweet, scriptures or movie quotes.

Yeah - I have the light box - not as much real estate for letters, but good enough. Problem is - too much trouble to change out - as in - I don't do it. It'd be like supposed to change out photos seasonally - yeah right. I think I used it for a regular quote and then Halloween. And then couldn't find "regular" letters and....um...that was November 2016. Hmmm...I guess I could dig it out again. Uses a lot of juice. Eh. I just don't want to pay to buy more letters.

Glad you are enjoying your letter board!

Maybe sounds better than a light box.

I was worried about that, which is why I waited so long, but I do like it and I change it pretty frequently.

I have the big and mini HS light boxes and love them. I've eyed the letter board for long lasting quotes and or word. I, too, like Paula hesitated thinking it was another expensive trend. I love the brand she mentions, but wow, they are pricey. I've seen the Target ones on IG a lot lately and decided that was something I could swing. Yay! My older girls use the light boxes often too. I love when they swap out the quote or word!!

I spent 55 cents on myself today... plus my $10 gift card from Michaels. The planner stickers I passed up last week were 1/2 price today!

I didn't step outside my house today!

Needed to go buy postage stamps...decided not to.

Think I'll just put 2 stamps on the envelope and let it be...then I don't have to go outside tomorrow either.

I bought a sheet of the forever "hand sort" (non-machinable) stamps for those cards I don't dare put a standard postage stamp on. Jumbo stamps, I call them.

Same ones they put on when I go to the window with the "hand cancel" cards or extra postage cards. Hey, I said. I'll take a sheet of those.

Why do you feel like a failure? Because you sold $25 of SMASH goodies you did not use and used (part of or all of) that to purchase a letterboard you wanted and eat lunch out?

Not my definition of a failure. Might be a wash, but definitely not a failure. Traded something you didn't use for something you wanted and for an experience.

Mostly b/c I bought the letter board before I knew I sold the SMASh stuff! And b/c I just can't seem to do a no spend month!! So I think it's time to readjust the sails, b/c no spend is not realistic. But at the same time it does really reign me in to tell myself I'm doing a no spend month.

I don't regret eating out. I mean, I didn't want to eat that kind of food, but I also never get to eat out with a friend and DD1 only has a few more days off. And technically today is the last day off b/c she has things going on Th and Fri now. So I let that go b/c you have to enjoy what you can while you can!!

Thanks for your input...I appreciated it!

DD1 and I were visiting about choices and judgements yesterday. She mentioned that we don't know all of what people are saying no to. Yes! So I'm remembering that now as I think of what I DID say no to. Didn't look at anything papercrafting at JoAnns. Didn't go down the new aisles at Target of Home and Hearth things. NOthing at the $ spot. And so forth. Easy to see what people are buying when they say they are on a budget, but easy to not see what they are saying NO to!!

I was going to treat myself to some riced cauliflower for dinner's casserole last night. A friend had posted on her stories of what she bought on a budget!! Well, her budget is different than mine must be!! It would be more than double the price of a head of cauliflower and it really isn't that much trouble to throw a head of cauliflower in my food processor and have it "riced"! So that's what I came home and did.

I know the "I just can't do a no spend month" feeling, Rebekah. I feel like I've really made progress this year so far, though... and then I remember that it's only been two weeks. LOL. I just need to keep it in front of me all year, I think. Not "no spend" necessarily, but "think through". I bought my stickers yesterday, which was a want and not a need. But I didn't buy them last week when they would have been more than the $10 fun money I had. I bought myself a gift card to the store with my fun money instead - sort of like a savings plan. ALL WEEK I thought - "What an idiot! You bought a gift card? You could have spent that money on something else fun!" But - wow - it was so rewarding to me yesterday to know that I had "saved" the money until the stickers were on sale, rather than having gone over budget. You spent money on a letter board. But you DIDN'T buy it until you had money coming in. WIN!! #smallvictory And you have been SO good with your budget this past year. I think you are doing fantastic!!

I learned something about myself and grocery shopping this past week. I don't necessarily buy things I don't need to put myself over budget. But I do "buy ahead" which accomplishes the same thing. *sigh* I had my menus and shopping list all made out when I went shopping the other day, but while I was in the store I thought - "Oh, I should pick up some Mac & Cheese for when I work late." And, "Look, the GF tortillas are back in stock. I'd better get some." And, "Oh, I should probably get an extra box of the GF breakfast sandwiches, in case I don't go shopping as soon as I think I will." etc, etc. So when I got home I realized that I had almost enough food for next week, too, and that even though I came in $1.50 under budget, I didn't have enough left over to pick up the fresh fruit and veggies that I will need during the week until we get our next check. It isn't like we don't have the money for the extras I'll need, but it was very eye opening. My tendency is to go "just a little over" rather than "just a little under." Hmmm.... #foodforthought #roomforimprovement

Rebekah, I get the I can't do no spend (and more for me WHY can't I do no spend) feeling. I think on any big change like this though, you have to allow for a certain margin. Not give yourself an out necessarily, but just realize there are usually one or two small detours and you just get back on track.

Tricia, my grandmother had that plate and when she died no one really knew what happened to it. My mom tracked them down and bought one for my brothers and me. I love it! They make mugs, too, apparently. Also, I totally grocery shop like that!!!!!! I don't necessarily want to stop, but I would like it to at least be a choice I know I'm making and not some weird shopping reflex.

I know! I think that if I have the money I am always happy that I have done it. But usually for me it puts me that little bit over budget. And rather than take it out of next week's grocery money, I think, "Hey, I have almost enough food for this week, that means I can splurge on something else!" I think, rather than totally stopping, maybe I need to allow myself, say, $10, to "spend ahead". But only if I leave myself enough money for perishables during the week. #workinprogress #mustbemindful

Yep, that's me too. I went shopping with DH the other night for our "date"! I was stopping at several different things saying we needed it and he was like "Nope, it's not on the list!" I remember what I need by seeing it LOL!
