I used up several stamped off sentiments for these cards and also some already die cut holly and berries. On to the next stack of stuff I am still trying to use up.

This card features a retired SU! set, Garden Snowmen (from 2001). The set is not even in the SU gallery since it is so old, lol! I have not inked it up in a while and decided to pull it out- I will also be finishing up a card using the other snowman image and will share later.

I used a very old patch on this gift card holder. I have a stack of these that my mom picked up for me that need used up.

At the beginning of the year I started with 3 large totes of stuff to use up. I got it down to 1 tote then my mom gave me another box about 3/4 of the way through the year. I sorted that out yesterday to pullout what needs used up and what I can keep in the stash. So for 2019 I will be down to a tote and a half once I finish this year.

Here is another card I made with a sentiment that was already stamped in one of the totes:

I pulled out one of my favorite flower stamps to make a birthday card and to fit several SCS challenges as well. It has been about three years since it was inked up. It made a lovely Golden Mandarin peony bloom by choosing just the right Copic colors! Here it is: Happy Wishes for a Dear Friend.

For this card, I have two brand new items that were never opened and used for over two years: the Just Rite "Lattice Background" stamp and the Stampin' Up "Crosses of Hope" die set. An "oldie" used that fits the gathering dust challenge is my Baja Breeze ink pad, which hasn't seen the light of day in at least three years. (It has been retired for at least four years).

Here is my card: Sympathy for the Loss of a Son!

Another challenge entry. This one uses two old items from my stash...the Square Lattice embossing folder, which I haven't used in over three years and has been retired for even longer! I also brought out my mini brads...can't even remember the last time I added brads to a card! Here is my card: A Cardmaking Birthday Buddy to Celebrate!

I have two sympathy cards of the same design to enter, which each a different color. They both use a new stamp set," Flourishing Phrases," that I purchased over a year ago and have just inked up for the first time! They each also use some old white ribbons that I have probably had at least four to five years!

Here they are:
Remembering a Warm and Wonderful Lady! #1 and Remembering a Warm and Wonderful Lady! #2.

Have a couple of Christmas cards that fit this thread:
Believe - Red by swldebbie - at Splitcoaststampers This one is a two-fer. The Santa is from a MFT set that I bought a few years ago but hadn't used yet. The believe die and sentiment were from new purchases this holiday season.

Getting Our Christmas Merry On by swldebbie - at Splitcoaststampers Both the cover plate die and the little snowman agenda are new purchases this holiday season - so happy to have used them the same season they were purchased.

These 2 are using a Ho-Ho-Ho die from MFT that I bought a year or two ago and am just using this holiday season - 2 different ways to use it.

I bought the “Country Home” stamp set back in January 2019, and I am inking it up for the first time for this card…10 months later! I’m also using a 5-year old stamp set for my sentiment: “Good Greetings.”

Here is my card: Hugs for a Friend!

What a great thread! This fits perfectly with my 2020 crafty resolution... it's something like, I want to see my supplies clearly. (20/20 vision LOL)
I need clarity about what I'm keeping, and then I need to USE those that make the cut.
Love the challenge of using my stash!

Sabrina posted about this challenge thread in another thread! Has there been any interest/thought to setting it up like regular weekly challenges with a bit of a theme - like stamps one week, papers another, etc? I need/like direction, aka a shove! lol

This challenge thread was opened years ago for the purpose of encouraging you to use your unused stamps, etc. and it has evolved that you can use anything that you have not used in a while (i.e. stamps, paper, embellishments, embossing folders, etc).

I am not sure if a weekly challenge for this thread would be easier for all, or if we could challenge ourselves to use retired or unloved "stuff" with another weekly challenge here at SCS- for example, one week the sketch challenge, the next week the color, etc.

I know that personally, I like the freedom to use my retired and unloved items with other challenges, but some like to make multiple cards to use up their "stuff" and adding another challenge may be a bit too challenging...

What does everyone else think about this? Keep the challenge the way it has been or add an additional theme each week?

Hugs and thanks for the input and ideas!!

Julie, I like the way it is. I found this challenge this year and when I think about it, I will be reminded to use my stuff, not always shopping for new. I do not need an additional theme, but others may like it.

I hope I made sense since I often don’t.

I meant keep it the way it is using our stash and not buying new, like lovepaper said. And just adding one general instruction - for example, one time it might be using paper we already have, though of course other items could be used too. Another time might be stamps, or dies, etc. And it could be more than a week.

When I can choose anything from my entire stash universe I might choose nothing. But if given even one broad direction, I unfreeze.

But having not participated in this thread, I don’t get a vote - just tossing it out there and am glad Sabrina pointed us to the thread.

I realized there is a challenge called “Ways to Use It” so that might be what I’m looking for. So my apologies.

But I just noticed the Use It challenge doesn’t show up on the main forum page in the long list of Challenges, which is why I hadn’t heard of it. I bet a bunch of people don’t know about it for the same reason. It would be nice if more did.

I love this thread !! It helps me to use up a lot of stash and things especially things I hoarding!! Playing some of the major challenges always have me premaking images ,bkgs and so forth so when come time for the challenge events I have things ready to choose from , especially for vsn where it's limited to be done in a hours times . So by having premade items it cuts the time down and more able to create faster and definitely makes the cut in a hour. With doing so it leaves me with slot of stash unused as well, so this wonderful thread helps to remind me to USEIT!!! Love this thread the way it is.

Thanks for all of the input, ladies!!

I will keep the USE IT Challenge the way it has been and encourage all of us to incorporate other SCS Challenges when we can

bjeans- thanks so much for the suggestion and please do not feel that we are not receptive to change

The main SCS challenges are listed in the forum summary and at the top when you click on the Challenges forum from the main Forum page, but there are many other challenges such as Alphabet, Stamp to Spend, USE IT , All Occasion and several others that are listed at the bottom (once you open the main forum).

Since they are under "New", they are not included in the summary box on the main page

I plan on starting the new 2020 USEIT Challenge closer to the end of the year....

Hugs and thanks again for the suggestions and input!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

bjeans- thanks so much for the suggestion and please do not feel that we are not receptive to change

Yes, I’ve seen all the “visible” challenges and participated in a few, plus DTGD 2019 (wonderful one!). I just think many do not know about challenges (and some other “sub” forums) that are not on the main page or list - including some of us who visit SCS daily. (Screenshot attached of what I mean by main list.)

Recently someone who has been very active for years posted she didn’t know about a subforum because it’s “underneath” the main forum page. There could be more participation if they were listed where they could be seen - even a page that was just a list and link to every one - like a site map. But that’s probably better posted on the suggestions page.

Sorry to have interrupted!
