Hello ladies.
Just popping in. I'm slowly getting the studio in order so I can play again. This month is all about getting the rough draft of my 3rd book (2nd in a series) written so it can cool over the holidays.

We had a skiff of snow yesterday and today we've had a high of 28* with brutal wind chill. They called schools off today pretty much across the southern half of the state. Many of those also got out early yesterday ahead of the sleet/ snow.

I am so not ready for this. I don't remember having these cold temps in November.

Hi Kelly, good to see you, still busy I see. We saw on the news all the snow across many of the states, so pleased we are in CA!

I'm glad you are in Ca too Jan, if you don't like snow and cold. It is early in the year for such extreme weather. Tonight we are forecast to get record low temps here. And it will continue to be cold for this week and the next, so they say. However, I did enjoy shovelling 5 inches of snow off my walkway today in the sunshine. It is so pretty on the evergreens.
Hello Kelly. Glad you are getting your book finished and can look forward to some different type of creativity.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Arrange rack in the middle of the oven and heat to 350°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Whisk the almond flour and baking powder together in a medium bowl. Switch to a wooden spoon and stir in the maple syrup and vanilla. Stir until a sticky dough forms and holds together.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, about one inch apart. For crisp cookies, press down the dough lightly with the flat bottom of a drinking glass or measuring cup. (If the glass sticks to the dough, dip the bottom in water.) For softer cookies, don't press down the dough.
  • Bake until the edges are golden brown, about 12 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for about 3 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cool the baking sheet between batches.

RECIPE NOTES

Mix-ins: Add 1/2 cup chopped chocolate, nuts, or dried fruit to the batter before baking.

Default S2S19SS 'Christmas, with an animal'

An easy challenge this week. It is just possible that someone may not have all her Christmas cards done yet (me!). So lets make a Christmas card, or two or more. And let's include an animal. Then, when the cards are done, let's start addressing them.
I have 2 samples, not uploaded yet.

P. S. Funny thing about lighting. Both cards are made with dp of the same colours, but the top one was taken during the day, when the sun was shining, and the bottom one this evening with artificial light. The top one is the true colour.

Kathy i have never tried those cookies so I looked up the recipe. Not gluten free so it can't be one that I try this year.

Big hugs that you are getting everything ready for your OP.

Ok so I am going loopy again over here!

I use the recipe from Taste of Home magazine. I don't know what has gluten and what doesn't so I'm no help.

Oopps sorry. Anything made with regular all purpose flour is NOT gluten free.

Yup I am loopy. I looked at a recipe and it just had regular flour in it.

Usually recipes will have notes to say which food sensitivity they are OK for. Many people who have to be gluten free will also be dairy free

I looked at the recipe, too, to see if it mentioned gluten free, but it didn't. Is there a tasty substitute for all purpose flour?

Great challenge, Ina. I love the frame on the bottom one.

Kathy, I would love that recipe or a link to it.

Kathy, how long will you be in the hospital for your surgery?

Oh I can't believe I made such a mistake on my card! A menorah has a total of 7 candles! So glad I asked someone to check it. I was so busy doing placement and balance. OK off to make another one.

Sharon, if you type in pumpkin cookies with penuche frosting taste of home, the recipe should come up. I got it from the actual magazine, but I think k they put it on their website. I know I posted it a year or two ago, maybe a recipe thread for falliday fest? I'll go look.

Lynn, I don't need gluten free so only work on tweaking if you want to try it.

OK so we have one answer! I have new neighbors! They smoke pot. I came home one day and my whole place smelled of it. No wonder I am wonkier than usual. Now these people signed a legal document that says you CANNOT smoke pot in this building! The family with kids at the end of the hall are getting the smell through their bathroom.

Hi Sis! I can't use almond flour due to the high nickel content. Only those of us allergic to nickel need to know these things

Good morning all. It's a brrr.......eautiful morning here, with a gorgeous sunrise and really cold temps. It's - 12 C. degrees, when the normal temp for this day should be around + 5 C degrees. The ski season is opening this weekend at Blue Mountain (the biggest ski resort in our province)
I got a wonderful surprise in the mail yesterdsy. Jayne, thaks so much for the beautiful postcard from New Zealand. It certainly lioks like a gorgeous country and I will be looking forward to seeing some pictures on the photo thread. So sorry you arrived home sick. Travelling is great, but very hard on our bodies.

It is a small world. Brought my car in for an oil change and to check my battery. Yup I needed a new battery. But that is not the small world part. I met an Aussie in the waiting area and she was new to Canada. Finally a use for my font of useless information. As she said goodbye she said she had enough info to travel Canada for 10 years! Lol

Ina, it’s been 40+ degrees here since we arrived home. Unusual for this time of year. It’s slightly cooler today. thanks for your good wishes. Feeling a little better today.

Glad the postcard arrived. I remembered that you said that you liked to receive postcards. I didn’t send as many this time as it was difficult keeping on top of things but shall surprise people from time to time when we travel.

Travelling is hard on our bodies and we aren’t getting younger. We would walk up and down the stairs from level 5 up to 14 and higher every day and after 13 days it didn’t seem to get any easier lol. The good news is I only put half a kilo on. I was good this time and didn’t eat everything in sight. Some people did though lol.

Happy Sunday everyone

Good morning Ladies, back from LV, had a great time, our sons friend got us an upgrade to a suite, it was enormous, our son organised it all, he took us in Ubers as most things were out of the strip and too far to walk. Spent yesterday chilling as it was a long drive!

Jayne, pleased to hear you had a good trip, we only have two weeks left and the boys are off for most of it so we will have to find some fun things to do.

I was a good girl for a change! Last night I picked up sweet pea and we met up with grumpy. His Chinese mom and her hubby were also there. We went to a place called Adamson's. Can you day yum! Since there were 5 of us, we got a platter of pulled pork, smoked ribs and beef brisket. Yummy! Great corn bread! Potato salad and Cole slaw topped it off. Oh but no plates!!!!

Sounds like good fun, Lynn.

Sharon, I also wondered how they ate without plates...guessing just on paper?

We are headed into the city today. Hubby still isn’t well and really shouldn’t be going. I also do not want to go and I’m in one of my I want to stay home and hibernate days.

I’m just about back to myself..I took some activated charcoal yesterday. It seems to have worked.

Sleep well everyone.

Oh.. right. so the place is NOT fancy. They have big old tables. There is a big roll of the brown paper that butchers use to wrap their meat. So I covered the table with that. you need a fork but a knife is not necessary since all the meat just falls apart. Not fancy cuisine at all. Just really good meat smoked to perfection. When they run out of food they close. In the summer they may close right after lunch if it has been busy.

My son takes me to the most interesting places! LOL

Good morning all. Lynn, your dinner out sounds very interesting and yummy. My son is like yours. He always finds little 'hole in the wall' places to eat. And they are always great. Me ...... not so much. A friend is coming to town on Thursday, and I am having trouble finding a nice place to eat here. The two restaurants that are top of the list, close at 3 p.m., as they only serve breakfast and lunch, not dinner. Then, there are 3 places that are pretty high end, price wise. Two Indian places, and our friend does not care for Indian food. I think it will have to be the Brew Pub.
Jayne, I'm sorry you are not all better yet. I imagine you must have appointments you need to keep, so be safe on the highways. City driving is always stressful. It's super foggy here today, so I am not driving too far until that clears up.
Kathy, are you o.k.? You are keeping a low profile lately. I know your surgery is coming up in a few weeks. I pray it will go well.

I have a bit of useless trivia that I just heard on the radio. Today is international toilet day!! And no, that will not be our challenge this Thursday.

So what does one do to celebrate national toilet day?

Ha, ha. Apparently it was intituted to inspire action to tackle the world sanitation crisis. Apparently more people in the world have cell phones than access to clean and safe toilet facilities. So I guess a person could donate to a charity that works on providing safe latrines and water in the third world.
Coincidentally, it is also international men's day. Go figure.
