Vicki, love the pop of yellow in your black and white cards. Catching up on the threads. Need to get off the computer and get something productive done before going to work today. Planning to work on clearing the dining room table. Did much of my holiday crafting there and there it still sits.

Oh.. ok.. so i am the queen of strange.. so here goes. I have told my friends family that should they not want anything sewing related i can contact thr ladies who make quilts for those with cancer. I also found that princess Margaret hospital..a big womens cancer hospital .. will take gently used wigs. I know that the step daughter is moving in April so may not want extra stuff. The step daughter is also a size 00 so will most likely not want any 2x clothing. I will talk to my church that runs a home for homeless women and pass any list on to the family.

Am i missing any needy organizations?

We’ve had another busy day, after our walk and shopping we put down tape to make a straight line for our painting down the stairs, it’s a bit fiddly but we finished it, just need to fill in the stair treads, they are marble and the grouting has worn away over the years with the rain.
Just had roast lamb for dinner, tasty, with mash potatoes, turnip and swede, I think it’s called rutabaga in America! That always gets us, I guess that’s the German name for swede.

Jayne have you watched the Supranos? It was about the mafia, we really enjoyed it, the main character died quite young so no one knows if they would have done another series but they are doing a prequel with his son playing his younger self. Looking forward to that

Sharon I’ve actually finished one of the two W Fold cards you inspired me to make, I’m quite pleased with it, im just doing the other one, I’ve got stuck on what to put on the squares in the middle.

Sharon I saw your conversation about organising your craft room, I save any plastic boxes, like the ones that sliced ham comes in, if they are quite sturdy I wash them and keep die cuts in them, one for each shape, I also put my bling in them, a lot of my papers are A4 size as they were free from my magazine so they are sorted by colour in folders with plastic sleeves so if I want a colour I just pull that folder from the book shelf, I’m quite organised now and it’s so much easier, although sometimes I can’t find something that I’ve organised into a new resting place.

Jan, yummy....love turnip and swede with mash spuds. I would need lots of mint sauce or jelly with my lamb though LOL.

I did watch a few episodes with the youngest a few years ago and enjoyed it...would need us to start at the beginning as hubby hasn't seen any. I did read that the main character died...sad.

Sharon I’ve actually finished one of the two W Fold cards you inspired me to make, I’m quite pleased with it, im just doing the other one, I’ve got stuck on what to put on the squares in the middle.
Go girl...look forward to seeing your W fold cards. I'm still stuck on the basic cards LOL.

I also organise my papers by colour, including patterned and scraps. Do you do your bling the same or by item/theme?

I had another delivery by Studio Calico yesterday and can't work out if I ordered it but I must have Going to check my original order as I received one from them a couple of weeks ago and thought at the time that it wasn't much for the cost. Now I'm thinking that maybe I got myself a good deal in their sale as there was a heap of stuff. I do need to sort out my $$ totals though LOL

S2S19C - Celebrate with an Aussie

Happy Thursday everyone, here's your challenge for this week

On Saturday, 26th January Australia will celebrate its offical national day….Australia Day. The Monday is a public holiday and no one likes long weekends more than Aussies

Australia Day marks the anniversary of the First Fleet arriving from Britain in 1788 and the raising of the British Flag at Sydney Cove. The day is celebrated by community and family events with community awards and citizenship ceremonies held around the country.

Usually there’s lots of family gatherings, picnics and barbies (BBQs), parades and also fireworks, provided there’s no fire ban on the day. Australia Day Honours and Australian of the Year are also announced.

We shall celebrate the day with a family barbie

For those of you interested in knowing more…check out this link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_Day

There’s also a poem entitled “My Country” written by Aussie Dorothea Mackellar when she was homesick and living in the UK in 1908. The full poem is here:

https://www.dorotheamackellar.com.au.../mycountry.htm

I especially love the 2nd verse that I think depicts Australia perfectly:

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!

In honour of our day, your challenge is to make a card or project that celebrates a special day and features one of the following:

* Sailing Ship/s or part of a ship (from that era)
* Fireworks
* Picnic/BBQ
* A scene depicting a sunburnt country

For extra brownie points incorporate:

* Green & Gold on your card (Australian
national colours). The gold represents the golden
wattle (Acacia pycnantha) which is Australia’s
national flower

* The Australian flag or something Australian

Here’s 2 sample cards I made.

Thank you for playing in my challenge. The important thing is to have FUN!

Happy Australia Day weekend.

Woo hoo! What a great challenge Jayne!
Ever since I was very young, Australia has been on my bucket list to visit, but I think I will have to settle for reading about the country. This year my travel $$$ will go into a new roof for the house. But I certainly can make a card.

That is so interesting Jayne! I'm just getting into poetry a little and that is such a vivid verse.

Hello ladies! Joining in here after hearing about it from Jayce and Misti! I wasn't sure about the monetary balance because wow, I have so much stuff and don't want to buy creative stuff this year lol! So a friend of mine (Paula on here!) wondered about being starting with a very negative balance and taming the beast of all the new and unused stuff in my studio that way! I love it! So don't be shocked if you see me starting off with a very in the red balance.... It all sounds great and I look forward to getting to know you each!

Jayne that’s a great challenge, haven’t a clue what to do though, ha,ha.

We did have lots of Mint sauce with our lamb, who could eat lamb without it! We still have mushy peas with mint sauce, too, a throw back to going to the Goose Fair in Nottingham, Steve and our sons used to have cockles in with the peas too, one step too far for me.

Believe me, if you start out with a 0 balance, you will still find it a challenge to stay in the black. Unless of course, you can withstand all the enablers here Sharon (smadson) carries her positive balance forward wach year and will be a motivator to me. You can always set up low amounts for cards/projects completed. Some of the players pay themselves up to $6.50 per card, as that is what they charge when they actually sell them. When I sell a card, I charge $2 to $3. BTW, i am already in the red, so early in the year, due to a SU order. I need to update my totals.

I am not keeping a balance because it was really high, and I don’t spend much anymore. Maybe I should pay myself when I use stash that has sat along time! Or something like that. Or pay myself if I reach my goals. Like my scrap goal is 100 pages this year. 5 so far.
I don’t have a card goal, but do make quite a few.
I sent out or gave out 143 cards in 2018, and at least 56 Christmas cards, and completed 85 layouts. And stamped 16 gift calendars. I need to up my layout total, but the rest is good.
I kept track for years for this challenge, and it really made me aware of what I was spending. I have really got my spending under control now. As bad as I would like more SU! Colors, I don’t need anymore paper or inks! I will live with what I have! Just buy glue, adhesive and if I ever run out of white, or cream paper! Also, might have to buy envelopes, but with all the printed paper I have I could make envelopes with my punch board I never use! If I used stuff everyday and live another 20 years(to 93) I still will not have used all of my paper, or ribbon, or the 100s of eyelets or buttons, or brads!

No, I can't afford to be enabled in any way. I really truly have so much and my budget is fixed and at the moment can't have any in crafting! But I'm A-Ok with that b/c I really want to dive deep here and use what I have!!

Ha! I can't afford to be enabled and don't look too far beyond the rock I hide under!! I'm on a fixed budget for myself and it currently doesn't have a holding for craft stuff. I just have so so much and really need to stop indulging and enjoy what I have!!

Yay Rebekah has come to join us. Good to see you on here. Glad you like the verse..it is vivid and so Australia. Since I've been on this thread it does make me think about what I spend. I still buy and add it to my total...last year it was so in the red I was embarrassed. I've started at zero this year but am still conscious of my total last year. My goal this year is not to end in the red...lol. I pay myself $2.50/card, $5/scrap page and $2/post....it all takes time. Just enjoy and come and chat..great ladies.

Thanks Ina and Lynn. Lynn, hope you are ok.

Jan....lots to think about with the challenge. Maybe just something in green and gold and for any occasion?

Happy Friday everyone. Enjoy your Thursday evening and sleep well.

We did have lots of Mint sauce with our lamb, who could eat lamb without it! We still have mushy peas with mint sauce, too, a throw back to going to the Goose Fair in Nottingham, Steve and our sons used to have cockles in with the peas too, one step too far for me.

Thanks Jan.

Love mushy peas...with anything. Steve and your boys and I would get on...lol.

Jayne - great challenge! Australia Day sounds like our Fourth of July. It's red, white and blue. And I love the color combo part for extra credit - green and gold! Hello! I love green!

Sharon I finished my W Fold card, honestly I struggled with it but I´m pleased with the result.

I also agree about keeping totals although I am doing it, apart from my media glass mat I didn´t spend much last year and won´t be this year, I have enough stuff to last my lifetime so I´m making it my goal to use what I have, not really because of money, although Steve would most likely disagree with that. LOL but I haven´t used many things I´ve bought over the last couple of years due to being away so much.

Jan, I love your card! It was fun, even though a struggle. Now that it has been a couple of weeks, maybe I will try another! LOL

Welcome, Melissa and Rebekah. This is a caring, fun and sometimes silly group. I hope you enjoy it here.
Jayne, I am still looking for an embossing folder, to do your challenge.

Hi Melissa and Rebekah, as Ina said we are sometimes a little crazy but we have a laugh!

Jayne, I’ve had a little grain of an idea for your challenge, if I can make it work.
My brain is frazzled making those cards with folds, ha,ha, now I’ve got to squash it into an envie to post.

It’s so warm tonight, 6.25pm and no fire, yet, can’t believe it, it was 19c at 10am this morning so I had to carry my fleece half way into our walk, someone did tell me I didn’t need a coat but I chose to take it anyway.

Our DIL has been in Vancouver for a conference all week, she flew home last night and they said they would be delayed as there was a technical problem with the plane, she was worried then but they had another message saying that it was only a small problem, the toilet would t flush so anyone needing to use the toilet would have to ask for a snall bucket of water, she said she daren’t go after she heard that, luckily it’s only a two hour flight, we were laughing at the thought of a bumpy flight with people carrying buckets of water down the aisle.

She’s off skiing this afternoon for the weekend with the GSs, she wears me out just telling me what she’s got planned.
