Good morning and happy Sunday.  I’d like to get moving on something crafty, but I’m not sure what yet.  I finished the second journal and have tracked down some red roses paper and ephemera but I don’t feel like starting the journal for DD1 yet.  You know how you get in craft limbo?  I’m floating there right now.  DD2’s journal is on birds and wildflowers but I don’t feel like starting it yet either.  And I have a dog sleeping on my lap so apparently I’m not going anywhere anyway.

I have a question about the gel plate.  I read that the white bubbles, or I guess they are called cells, show up when there are environmental issues like the room is hot or cold or damp or something.  Can anyone help me with that?  The blue and white print on top in my photo is an example of what I’m talking about, although the print turned out great for a bg of a winter card, I think.

Jayne, I haven’t chatted with you for a while, I’ve been wrapped up in other stuff.  How are you feeling?  Did you have your other two specialist appointments?  You sound like you are doing much better.

I did make a mini journal, or the beginning of one, last night while watching a football game.  The teeny tiny ephemera to put in are so small!  I put the tv remote next to some of the pieces and the book itself to give you an idea of size!

DH said what in the world are you going to do with that?  I have no idea, but I do think it’s so darn CUTE!

Here's my card for the MMJ08 gelli plate challenge...I had so much fun making the print for this....I had never really used alcohol inks on my plate before but was interested in trying it. I watched a couple of videos to get me started. I used my 6" square plate for some but also made some smaller ones using those small shaped plates..a circle and a square about 3". The one I used on my card is made with a shiny-metallic white paint on top....can't really see in the photo but it gives it a very cool effect.

My son in Arizona just informed me his wife loves elephants and anything Safari, so now I have my next journal project.  Her birthday is next week.  I shouldn’t be too far belated on her birthday gift.

Polly..yay you’ve joined us. Your card is exquisite and ooh your prints. You nailed it and I’ve not tried alcohol inks on my plate..was too nervous but did watch a video and now will watch yours. I did make some panels with alcohol inks yesterday but not using the gelli plate.  Now I’m keen to give it a go.  TFS.

Happy day everyone.  Another Drs appointment today....so over them.

Hi ladies.  Yesterday, I watched several videos on gel plate basics.  Very enlightening.  I've had a gel plate for several years and have hardly touched it, because I never liked anything I made with it.  I was really glad to see some basic instructions.  I think they were done by Birgit Koopson.  She did all kinds of things I never would have imagined you could do on the gel plate, but she also explained really basic instructions on how much paint, what kind of inks you could use, even things like pastels or eye shadow.  So now I want to play.

She showed how you can remove paint if you put too much on your plate by brayering on the plate and then off on some paper, repeat until you feel the amount is correct.

Jayne, regarding the line on your plate, have you tried turning it over and using the other side to see if that makes a difference?  Also, for a lot of multi layer prints, the line may not matter anyway.

Melody, Birgit Koopsen is my favourite to watch. I was going to share more from her in due course but I think in hindsight it’s just better if everyone just watches her and others now we’ve had the basics. I also watched the eye shadow one..so cool and I like her dry and wet medium videos. Hers and another lady on gelli arts are very informative. Birgit was the lady who mentioned about using white paint for the second pull. I must have watched about 20 videos of hers including her own videos and not those done for companies.

I did turn the plate over but my DGD did a good job of bending it lol. It’s not as bad on one side as the other but still noticeable. I like to think it gives my prints character lol.

Have fun getting messy.

I haven't been crafting much lately and just read the chat! It sounds like lots of you are having fun with the gelli plate! I need to get back in my room and play! Great gel prints ladies. I'm going to go watch some of the videos now.

It’s easy to make paste, I ran out and can’t get any here.
Hi Jan: Thanks for clarifying the inks used. DOX is short for Distress Oxides They get a chalky finish when dry and aren’t as vivid as Distress inks and they are reactive with water. Another great feature - is you can layer on colors and they don’t turn to mud. I just found a whole bunch of Mixed media jars a friend gave me when she moved and there is molding paste and clear Gesso so hope to have a play this week. Catching up with all your creations now.
Have a happy MMJ week everyone.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes, Jayne Sorry to hear your Gelli plate
was bent beyond repair.  You could keep it as a spare to brayer off excess paint.
Loved seeing what every one has done so far.
All of your creations are so unique and colorful and I do like the alcohol minis that Polly made.
Great playing everyone. In past attempts, I keep them all. Even the ugly ones make wonderful diecut material or you can do paper weaving when you cut them into strips.
Can’t wait to have a go today.

I’m up to my ears in journals to make, spending five or six hours a day working on them.  I do love it, and I always wait till Dusty Dog is taking a nap so she’s not interrupting me every 10 minutes.  I take several breaks to refill my ice water, get some crackers, do household chores.

My printer ran out of ink so I can’t print safari stuff until I get a refill, so I’ve been working on DD1’s red roses journal.  So far so good in tracking down ephemera here and there.  I’ve been watching videos on ideas first thing in the morning and sometimes even in bed to get ideas.

I have finished the file folder cover, spine and back, and one file folder full of pockets so far.  Time to quit for today, my eyes are bothering me.  Here are two photos.  Gosh, I’ve spent more time backing up, correcting and retyping this post than it took me to think of it, lol.

I have an idea to put to a vote.  I keep forgetting to post a Thursday tip, but I often think of something as I’m puttering around during the week. How does this sound?  Anyone who has a tip we might enjoy can just put TIP in capital letters in the post.  Like this:

TIP.  Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue (I bought mine at Walmart for $3.79 or something like that) is much easier to use than my Tombow Multi Glue.  And it’s easy to wipe away any residue without leaving a sticky spot.  I’ve put glue on the back of an entire piece of ephemera and then decided I didn’t want to use it, and I wiped the glue off the paper with a thin rag.  There was no stickiness left on the paper.  It didn’t work as well with paper towel.

Ok, my chores are calling my name.  Everyone please have a great and safe day.  Chat with you later!  Hugs!

I went on a gel print marathon today.....it's snowing here (about 6" so far) so what better way to  spend the day. Gracie are you still in WI..if so you got the same snow! I'm working on something for an upcoming challenge so I won't share it til week from Friday. It was fun but now I'm pooped! I do end up with a lot of prints, some not so great but I usually save those as I use them sometimes for backgrounds and stamp on them or cut them to make grass or sky, etc...Ya never know

Kandie your Journal covers are exquisite. I had to laugh regarding your doggie wanting to be on your lap.  Mine does the same thing so I have to set him up comfortably on an office chair beside where I am working. Good idea about TIPping as we go.  Glad some people got to play. Your Christmas stars are lovely Sharon and glad you got some preparation done Polly for your future project. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. I had my KFC lunch and it was great.  Watching Gelli Printing videos right now.

Kandie your journals are beautiful. SuZ glad you had a nice birthday and yay to a massage.

Polly, yay to playing with your gel prints and look forward to your challenge. I’ve been playing in my room the past day making samples for a challenge too.  I have finished them but they won’t go up until next week...very simple.  I do want to try some things on my gelli plate again. I’m into magazine transfers and all sorts of stuff at present but I can’t afford to get distracted. I have a few challenges I need to catch up on.

Have fun getting messy

Kandie your journals are absolutely beautiful, such precision too, I’m sure they will be loved.

Jayne I was watching a YouTube about photo and magazine transfers too I’m getting to be a YouTuber as my GS called himself, LOL

Jan I did magazine transfers last year in my scrapping on a tag.  One is in my gallery.  They didn’t come out great. I’ve also got one that’s been in my stash for months and I now can’t get the paper off..will have to wet it I think. I want to see how they come out on my prints. I love trying different techniques. Maybe one for a challenge on here.

Jayne, good morning/evening.  How are you feeling?

What is a magazine transfer?  Is it like putting a bit of a book page on a bg and then peeling it back off to leave print?

Gosh, I must be a youtuber as well, as all I seem to do between working on stuff is watch videos on how to do more stuff.  I’m so into this file folder crafting that my brain is starting to turn Manila folder beige, lol.

TIP:  if you need to reinforce a journal page that has folds that may be opened often - like my file folders, or any papers that are folded in half to make two pages - paper surgical tape put on the fold is a terrific way to reinforce it, and can be colored.  I ordered 2” paper surgical tape from amazon for $6.64.  Many of you might already know this trick and have raided your medicine cabinet.

I've done gel plate transfers in the past but not for quite some time now. My niece and I experimented with it and found it frustrating but finally figured out how to do it. Of course if I were to do it now I'd probably have to relearn the technique. One thing I do remember is that the weight of the magazine makes a difference. Nowadays magazines are printed on flimsy paper....if you have older magazines that are glossy and heavier they worked the best. We discovered that Garnet Hill catalogues worked really well...I made a card with a print and gave it to my niece and she said...I recognize that girl,,,she's a Garnet Hill girl!

Kandie thanks for the tip.  I might have to buy some tape *wink*.

When I did the magazine transfer I did it onto a tag and used gel medium and water and rubbed the transfer until it was on the tag. Unfortunately if you rub too hard, you can rub most of the paper away too lol.  Polly, maybe it was the quality of the paper.  Another technique to add to my list to try again lol.

What I remember about the photo transfer on the gel plate was that we used black acrylic paint, and it stains my gel plate. . It was a challenge for VSN or DTGD or Falliday Fest.
By the way the Falliday Fest Chat thread is up.

My Teapotter card gave me inspiration to tackle some of the challenges. I have a skirt for MMJ01 and glitter paste for MMJ07.

I also think it is very cool that this pretty card is #700 in my gallery! Woot-woot! I hope to add more of the challenges and keep on the mixed media, messy and joyful train.

Hi Ladies:  My massage was beyond fabulous.  She extended it to 2hrs because it was my birthday massage. I floated out of there.  I am itching to get on the Gelli plate and so I am going to do one with oxide inks because I haven’t got long enough today to make a mess with Acrylics.  Wonderful tip about the surgical tape from Kandie and Jayne: I watched a video on magazine transfers once and she chose images that were mostly dark.
Off upstairs now for a play- finally.
