Don't forget to take a picture of my card so I can show my demo friend! Thanks!

(((Catherine and for DD1 and your family))). I hope that her turmoil eases.

Yes I got inky yesterday and finished another card. Today I hope to start another one. Son1 and the poppets are coming to pick us up soon. We are going for a drive and coffee with them. I can’t wait to see those little faces.  Usually we have them during school holidays but not this time. It’s another good day.

Waving and hugs to you all.

Shelly, did you hear on the news that Chicagoans are asked to stay out of Indiana because our COVID-19 cases are increasing again?  Some people just don’t get it, but for the most part people do.

Default Hello

Hello ladies,
I had a busy day, did not sleep the greatest last night....  hubby did not sleep well and that affected me a bit  Plus, I was up late......  I met my sister 1/2 way between us, and returned items she is taking to her son in NJ this weekend- baby is Due in 7 weeks.  I did all of the lifting and we had masks on and social distanced.  She cannot go into any stores or anything while getting ready to go, and had a Covid test before she heads out.  As long as I was so close, I went to a stamping store that is an hour from here that I visit about once a year....I found plenty : )  I have made a card with one set tonight.  I was the only one in the store other than the clerk for most of the time.

Kathy, in our area, we are careful, but our numbers are low. In Illinois, we are less than 4%.....  There is open testing any time we want to go- and it is quick and easy where I live. My brother that was infected could not trace back to where he was infected, and is careful about wearing a mask . Interestingly, his wife did not catch it...her test was negative and she did not have symptoms.
My daughter in Chicago has just been cleared by her doc- had Covid and he kept her quarantined a touch over 3 weeks and monitored her carefully because of her Rheumatoid arthritis . She had a co-worked stop by and she asked if she could use the restroom- and they did trace to her as a cause of her Covid.  Luckily, she is teaching at home so did not miss too many days of work.

Kandie- I think I did see that on the news.  Is that because of college kids???  Love the journal you created- such beautiful pages!

Catherine- glad you had a great birthday, and an Orange cake sounds delicious!!!  Prayers for DD1 too!

Ann- agree- you are a fabulous hostess : )

 Sharon- how was your class?

Jayne- how was your day with poppets?  They surely put a smile on your face, don't they???

Waving hello to all!

Shelly

Hi everyone

Shelly, I had a wonderful morning/lunch with Son1, DIL1 and the poppets. They picked us up and drove us to a mini golf course near the city. We got there just as it was opening and by the time we left it was busy. Such fun and a beautiful spring day. Lunch was lovely at one of our favourite restaurants overlooking the beach on the coast. DH had pizza and I had a tasting plate and we couldn’t eat it all so had leftovers for dinner..bargain..no cooking lol.  I’m feeling ok again and it was just so lovely to get out. DH was keeping an eye on me and I didn’t do any funky moves lol.  A friend popped around this arvo and brought me the most beautiful kangaroo paw flowers out of her garden. I’ll post a photo on the photography thread.

Hope you and Gracie had fun crafting..will check out what you made.  I’m crafting tomorrow all day if anyone else is in their play room.

Hope everyone is going ok. Happy weekend

Finished my Walmart bi weekly run. Spent $122.80. if I didn't have a cat, I'd get out of there much cheaper! I have to buy the expensive litter because I'm pretty sure he's diabetic and I go through the cheap stuff too quick. I left at 8 and got home around 11:45 but also made two other short stops. And I get mom's groceries first then go back in for mine.

Good morning! It is cool here - I am wearing long pants! I need to get caught up on grading today, do chores (cleaning around the house), etc. DD1 has already worked her shift today (she opened so had to be at work at 4 am) and it was a fun shift. I'm just enjoying my coffee and checking in on all of you.

Kathy, I took photos of your fabulous card and was going to private message them to you but I can't attach files there and the insert image thing is still broken, apparently.

Jayne, I scrolled through the challenges that I haven't had a chance to even think about participating in before coming to this thread. When I was looking at the WTUI samples, I picked out which lovely card was yours. I'm glad you had a lovely day with the poppets and that you are feeling better.

Shelly, how fun to be able to get into a stamping store. We don't have any of those any longer in our area - just the big box stores. I really miss the stamp store that used to be in Roseville.

Thanks, Linda!

Kathy, I'm going to attach the photos here. And I agree, pets can be expensive (I'm looking at you adorable, Honey!).

What an awesome birthday card Kathy! Love it!

Catherine, I'm doing laundry and mopping floor today. I need a maid so I can craft more.

Jayne, I'll try to go on Zoom later today. Are you crafting in the morning your time?

Do you know that biweekly has two meanings? Stupid! How do you let people know which meaning you want? when I said I went to my bi-weekly Walmart run I meant once every two weeks but it also means twice a week!

Hi everyone!

Catherine glad you had a good birthday and prayers for DD1! That cake sounds wonderful.

I made a Hungry Girl easy recipe the other day. A box of devil's food cake and a can of pumpkin. Mix it up and bake. Course we have some whipped cream on it, lol.

Kathy that is an awesome card and Kandie your journals are awesome too!

I am dealing with chores. I have put off making some kingsize pillowcases into standard size. We have a kingsize bed but need standard size pillowcases.

Jayne, glad you are feeling better!

Shelly I was awake for an hour and a half in the middle of the night before last. Not fun. Sorry you did not sleep well.

It is Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday. Going to friends on Sunday and taking potatoes, cranberry sauce and champagne.

Going to make lunch and then tackle the dreaded sewing chore! I will be happy when it is done!

Waving hello to all!

Shirl, changing the size on those pillow cases should be as easy as changing where the end seam is and then cutting it off. No need to mess with the hemmed end.

Yes, Melody, that is what I did. Thanks for the confirmation! Ha, it is still a dreaded sewing chore but got it done! Yay me!

It has been drizzling here for most of the day. Probably will not get out for a walk today, but we walked 2.5 miles yesterday so I guess we can take a day off, lol....

Sharon, I sewed through high school and on, but I have not sewn anything for several years. I had completely forgotten how to thread and get the bobbin thread to come up, lol.
I am glad I got the chore done, and I even dealt with a pile of ironing I had put off for ages.

I just added two other views of the piano card so you can see the front and the embossing on the inside.

I used to sew a lot more than now. But now, whenever I have to sew, I dread it mostly because it seems like it is always a battle with my sewing machine. I have a student level White sewing machine and both of my girls dislike it too. I also have my mom's Viking sewing machine but it seems to have problems as well. I haven't tried sewing with her Singer Featherweight. Funny how I call both of those machines Mom's but they belong to me now.

It was a busy day of chores - house cleaning, laundry, and grading - and no time to get inky.

Shirl, what is ironing?

Sewing..what’s that?  I cannot sew but I did buy my small sewing machine to sew on my craft projects and I’m learning lol.

Kathy, awesome card. I posted some love on your cards and thought they were two separate ones. I didn’t realise it was one card lol. Amazing work.

Happy weekend. Gracie I will be heading there soon..not been up long..oops

Ha, Catherine and Jayne, too funny. Believe me, I put that chore off forever. And I don't iron lots of things anymore. Who has the time?

I wonder what tips there are for sewing on a card? What type of needle etc. Anyone know?

Shirl, for sewing on a card, you'd want a smaller, fine needle and a longer stitch so the paper doesn't tear.

I'm crafting tonight and just make a card for Ways to Use It: Shadow technique with stencil. It was really fun!

Gracie love love your card. Awesome work.  Is that me or you lol?

I’m still not in my play room. Sometimes days just don’t go to plan. Oh well.

Shirl, I just use the needle that came with my machine and it works like a treat.  Don’t ask me what size lol.  I just press the pedal and hope for the best.

Default Hello

Hello ladies!

I love to sew....lol  I have been sewing masks and donating them....made 4 for my sis for her trip to NJ, and my daughter is coming out tomorrow, I will make her a few more....  I used to do heirloom sewing and smocking for the kids when they were younger, but....need a granddaughter before I pick up that hobby again!  When the kids were younger, I used to attend a sewing vacation every year for a group called SAGA- Smocking Arts Guild of America. I met many dear friends from all over the US.

Sewing on cards is not too hard, pretty much just an issue of stitch length and width...zig zag and straight stitch.  Cardmaking is pretty dusty, so the 'dust' it creates can mess with your machine, but otherwise, just like sewing on fabric.  The dust gets into the bottom- where the bobbin is....  If you have issues- re-thread...like restarting your computer!
Just make sure your needle size matches thread- too small of a needle will shred the thread....  I use a 12 or 14 needle generally for paper crafting.

I worked on some mixed media today- first page is in the garbage...where it belongs!   I tried a couple more- very slow at progress as I am waiting longer for drying : )

My daughter was finally cleared from her doc from Covid- we have not seen her for a month!  She is going to come here tomorrow in the afternoon. I may take her for a manicure.....  the place here has plexiglass up and everyone wears masks.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!!
Shelly

So glad that your DD has been cleared Shelly...what a relief for you all.  A manicure is such a treat..enjoy.

Nooooo, don't throw your MM panels in the rubbish bin.  Save them for die cuts and remember that any crappy panel you don't like can be used on a gelli plate where you add more colours and take another print.  I have so many rubbish ones but always keep them.  I often end up being able to use them LOL.

I'm crafting.  I did a panel and don't like it so I did another one quickly.  Neither are grabbing me but I shall persist.  Taking some time out.

Happy weekend everyone

What is everyone working on today?  And does anyone know where I can rent three more sets of arms?  Lol. I have four projects I want to work on and need some help.

Shirl

Shirl, just have a needle dedicated only to paper and you should be ok. Paper dulls the needles so if you try to sew on cloth with the same needle it will give you issues.

You know, I was sorting through boxes of old photos last night for my DDs’ journals, and these boxes are in the closet under the stairs in the finished (somewhat) bedroom.  There is a window in there which has had new installation to a more weather-tight and more modern window than the ones put in this house when it was built in 1960.

Anyway, I was coming back up the stairs about an hour later when my next started burning like I had a sunburn.  DH looked at my neck and said I had two huge red swellings at my hairline.  I put witch hazel on and that took care of some of the pain.  This morning the swelling is down, but the redness is increasing, and DH suspects maybe when he replaced the window some spiders may have gotten in and took up housing in the closet.  He said they looked like brown recluse bites (he’s seen them before and also has been bit by one) and we’d need to keep an eye on them.  Now I feel distinctly like someone has a rope around my neck and is trying to strangle me, or like I have mumps.  I have a bit of a sore throat and am extremely grumpy, but no trouble swallowing.  Whatever kind of bugs got me, I don’t appreciate anything with more than 2 legs getting in my hair!  I’m taking a break from crafting and am going to take a warm and bubbly bath.

Halfway through my lavender journal already!  Getting ready to make file folder pockets insert and the paper bag pockets insert!  Fun!!!

Beautiful lavender journal Kandie! Sorry to hear about the bug bites! Yuck! Hope they go away quickly.

Shelly, enjoy time with your daughter and I'm glad she has been cleared by her Dr. to get out and socialize again.

Jayne, can't wait to see what you come up with next. I'm hoping to craft later. I'm trying to do at least one household chore a day. Yuck! Floors today. Wish I had a maid.

Ann have fun with the grands!

Hi all...I've procrastinated long enough...must get moving!

Wow I’ve missed lots of chat.

Shelly, pleased to hear your DD is over here COVID, you must have been so worried, enjoy your time together.

Kathy we would say every fortnight meaning every two weeks, I think it’s an English saying.

Kandie sounds an awful bite, take care as it sounds as if you have had an allergic reaction.
I love your journals, they are so beautiful, love the colours.

Well we were having a day off from jobs but of course Steve decided seeing as it was cloudy he would take all the split canes off the BBQ roof ready for when the man from the garden centre comes to measure up to make a new roof for it, as usual his jobs always involve me, I had to roll the pieces up and then Sweep all the mess up! Then he notices two wall tiles were loose so that’s another job for Monday!

Madrid is in lockdown but many have sneaked down here as it’s a long weekend, so we are supposed to be social distancing but someone decided to have a jet ski race, how stupid, we kept away from the port this morning knowing there would be loads of people Down at the beach, on the way home the police were stopping cars going to the beach, we have had only three cases here in the last week so after this weekend how many more will there be!!!

Morning all!

Kandie that journal is gorgeous! Sorry to hear about those bites. I know spiders are good, I guess, but they creep me out.

Thanks Shelly, Kathy, Gracie and Jayne for all your tips on sewing. Much appreciated.  Going to try this at some point.

Gracie just 3 more sleeps till your big day!

Ann have fun with the grandkids. I know you will!

I have to get a few or a lot of groceries today and then make my potatoes for Sunday.
The rain has finally stopped and need to get out for a walk too. Just kind of windy at the moment.
