Annette, is there any way for you to make 'grass' skirts, maybe ribbon or strips of fabric on a single strip to tie around your waists. Candles instead of torches.

Wow, lots of great ideas for a Hawaiian "staycation." Love everyone's ideas! So Sorry you can't go to Hawaii, Annette. We go to Maui every year and luckily we went in January this year...before everything went crazy.

I've discovered that I'm a "stress eater" as the ladies on the video chat can attest too. This is bad, since I can no longer work out at the gym. I do walk the dogs with DH, but I need to stop eating and start my workouts again. I can tell my arthritis is acting up. Motivation is severely lacking here!

Well, I'd better go get my Easter cards finished and sent...probably too late, but oh well, it is OK.

Hugs to everyone.

Good morning! Kandie, I must have been having a sympathetic bad night with you, I just didn't know why until I came on here this morning! It was one of those nights where I felt like I didn't sleep all night. I know I did, but it sure didn't feel like it! I got more praying done though.

DD1 successfully made a mask for herself last night. It was an ordeal though, because my White sewing machine is troublesome and greatly increases all of our frustrations. Poor DH, he is the patient one in the house who has to talk all his girls through the project! DD1 cut out fabric for two masks and pinned them both together and her mean parents made her completely finish one, then DH sewed the other for her. So she has two masks from the pattern that Ann shared on here. Thanks, Ann! One of DD1's masks is made from scraps from a pioneer girl dress I made for her when she was about six, the other is from scraps of fabric I used to make curtains for DH's basement apartment when he was in college and we were engaged. She used some of my ribbon for the ties, I suggested she use the white ribbon with black mustaches on it (we bought that ribbon for her) but she used my plain black grosgrain ribbon.

I understand that Zoom is rapidly working on improving their security because so many schools are using them and companies, so of course that makes them a target for hackers.

I'll have to watch Connie's video later, thanks for sharing it Kathy!

Great suggestions for decorations, Kandie. Sorry you don't get to go to the real thing, Annette. I love your idea of creating a waterfall/wave for a photo back drop too.

Thanks for posting the link, Ann, to Oozak. What a strange name. I have no refills for my Copics and know I need to change that.

Gracie, yesterday I saw I think it was Jennifer Lewis' VSN card that talked about the Covid 19 like the freshman 15 in college. I just went and found it, it was for Melody's sketch challenge. I thought it was quite fun - and, of all foods to have in her background, she had pretzels! MAR20VSND WT786 Put Down the Pretzels by Jennifrann - at Splitcoaststampers

Catherine, so glad your daughter was able to make the masks. I have had to adjust the length of the elastic for each person.

So now I have to make a few more with shorter elastic! That's ok by me at least I can help the family!

Love it, gave some to my number 2 son when he stopped over yesterday. I had asked him if he needed some. He told me his wife asked him if she should find a pattern and makes some. His answer, "my mom is already making some"!

She skipped the elastic and just used ribbon. I just wonder how it will feel to wear it for 6 hours or so while she is at work.

Catherine, I would think ribbon ties would be more comfortable for 6 hours rather than elastic around her ears. That was sweet that your DH sewed the other one for her!

Ann, your family is lucky to have such a caring and energetic mama!

Kathy, that video was funny!

70's today. Windows and doors all open.

I've been sewing late at night making masks. Last night I did 2 for my son and 1 for me. I have several more cut out.

She hasn't gotten home from work yet so I don't know how she felt wearing the mask all that time. Even with all the frustration of sewing with my White sewing machine, she was headed to Walmart (right by her work) to buy more fabric and ribbon to sew some more masks for her co-workers.

Gracie, I do have enough 1/4 elastic for her to sew the two masks she did yesterday but I suggested she stick with ribbon because I have been reading that those who have to wear them for extended times are bothered by the elastic. I'm sure it is fine for a shopping trip or two but 6-12 hours? I'm hoping that it stayed nicely tied, she was a little concerned about that.

Melody, it is warmer where you are than here! Are you making the same kind of masks that Ann shared the pattern for? On our Zoom staff meeting today, I mentioned the mask sewing and my co-worker asked what kind of masks we are making. I told her just fabric ones and she said she has seen patterns for using vacuum cleaner filters in them. I told her that wouldn't work for us because our vacuum filter is water!

Catherine, I think the one Ann showed had 3 layers. I'm only using 2. I've been using bias tape for ties. I think ribbon might be too slippery to stay tied. There are quite a few different ways to make them. I am not using a pattern. The first one I made, DH complained about it getting up in his eyes and the elastic was too tight. So I adjusted the size to smaller, maybe about 6"x7" (1/4" seam) and with only 2 pleats. There are some that you sew the bias tape across the top and bottom and extend for ties, but I've been putting it in the seam.

Yes, the one Ann showed had 3 layers. DD1 said the mask stayed well tied for her entire shift. I think the ribbon is OK because she chose grosgrain ribbon, you know, the kind with ridges.

She came home with some lovely neutral fabric prints and some more ribbon. It sounds like the selection was more limited than normal.

Default Hello

Waving hello- I have been MIA for a few days- neck is better and, I too am making masks! I am using a pattern called the Olson mask that had a pocket for inserting a vacuum filter that is HEPA certified. I cannot find any elastic in my stash, so making bias out of fabrics and using that- takes alot more fabric and thread.... Oh well. I have not stamped for 4 days- will get back to it tomorrow hopefully! The first batch going to a neighbor's son that is an ER resident in Kansas City. (Mt son's best friend). Son is a nurse, he and a daughter in Va will get the next batch.

Yesterday was hubbies 60th Birthday. My daughter ordered b-day banners from Amazin, and put up a sign to honk for the neighbors and friends that drove by. He worked all day, then we feasted on Salmon- his request, and roasted veg's. The card I made for him- I did not write in it- told him he could change the 0 die cut to a 1 and give it back to me in 12 days : ) LOL We are the same age for 12 days a year : )

We have 70 degrees today, so went for a long walk outside with Katie and her pup (Theo). My allergies are kicking up a bit with the flowers starting to bloom.....

Reading back a bit- seeing Catherine's daughter has to wear a mask all day at work and that folks are sewing masks : ) I will read back and catch up!

Please be safe- hoping all are well!

Have a great day!
Shelly

Shelly, you do not need to make bias. You can use straight fabric strips for the ties. The only reason I'm using bias is that I have it and I don't have to cut fabric strips. Lazy...

Yes, the pattern that Ann shared shows making fabric ties from straight cuts of fabric. The reason DD1 used ribbon was to make it quicker and easier!

I thought it was pretty funny too, Melody.

DD1 did say that wearing the mask all day today for her shift made it feel really humid like the day we visited The Hermitage in Nashville. It was VERY humid that day!

Wow lots of great ideas for Annette and her DH’s staycation. Love it. I wonder if I could do something for our trip to Spain/UK that would have been in a couple of weeks...nope too hard for me lol.

Love the funnies. Shelly I wish I’d known it was going to be your 60th..such a special birthday. Love how you and your DH are sharing cards. My DH is currently the same age as me now but in June I then become 9 months older than him...my little toy boy he is lol

Have fun ladies...gosh all these masks. I saw a few people at the supermarket wearing masks but our Health Minister has said not to wear them unless we are sick and then we really shouldn’t be out although I did read online that if someone sneezes or coughs near you it could potentially go over 2m...yuk. I still haven’t looked for masks for us...adding it to my to do list. Bye for now

Good morning, ladies.

Catherine, hilarious photo!

Gracie, love your Easter cards.

Third day I’ve had total body aches. Not sure what’s going on there, unless Arthur Itis has moved in to stay during the lockdown.

Such a GORGEOUS day yesterday, it got up to 72 and sunshine, oh my, the entire neighborhood was out! Children were playing in their yards, older ones were playing basketball, one young man was washing his car, golf carts were going up and down our roads, and several, like DH and I, were just sitting on our porches enjoying it all.

DH did work a lot in the yard, doing cleanup and various chores. He overdid it and is suffering today with cramping legs and sore shoulders. I feel so bad for him.

I addressed many Easter cards and cheerful cards and will post them today.

I was on Amazon yesterday looking at rubber gloves. I’d have to say, 90% of the gloves had no prices, and a paragraph under each saying they were reserved for hospital staff and first responders during the Covid-19 virus. Very, very cool.

DH says he’s getting frustrated by one of the tv ads for a local drive-through restaurant that serves beef tips, mushrooms, fried onions, red potatoes as their specialty. He says he can smell the food from the tv and is on the edge of being a very bad boy and driving to the place for carry-out, lol.

Did anyone get the storms last night, lighting, some thunder, and rain coming down hard and straight down? Second night in a row.

I heard on the show The Voice yesterday that twins born during this mess have been named Covid and Corona. Now come on! I sure hope it was nothing but a stupid rumor.

Kathy, have you done today’s tutorial yet? How did it turn out?

Yes, I did the tutorial. It was fun.

Yes to thunder and lightening last night. I woke up and went out to the kitchen to find my kitty but he was no where to be found. Finally I noticed the kitchen cabinet door was ajar and he was hiding under the sink! So I too him back to our bedroom and let him hide under my bed.I just left my bedroom door open a bit so when it stopped he could get out to the litter box if need be.

Kathy, I noticed your beautiful stitched card is backwards. I'm pretty sure there is a way to flip the photo and reload.

Good morning everyone. We had some really dense fog this morning, but it's cleared up now.

Thanks melody. I was adding details when I hit the flip button by accident. I backed out without hitting submit thinking it wouldn't flip! I'll go change it!

I went to look and it wasn't flipped on mine. I will look again in a minute.

Hi everyone! How is everyone doing today?

Jayne, you crack me up! Thank you, I love your humor.

Kandie, kick Arther Itis out! He can't live there. Sorry you are still achy and now your DH is too thanks to overdoing it. I agree, I hope that is just a rumor that they named their twins that. Really? Come on, people!

No thunder and lightning here, but we don't usually get that. It looks rather calm out there right now.

DD1 is contemplating not working until the quarantine is over. She really didn't like wearing the mask that long yesterday. I told her she should give it a few days to really see.

Thanks for the reminder, Ann. I need to take a photo of my card and upload it! I also need to get to the post office with some outgoing mail and oh, I should get some work done.

Here's a funny for you all.

Oh I like that funny, Catherine!

But with my spouse it would probably be, "Ann there is a bug in the kitchen, take care of it"!

Funny one Catherine! I'd scream if I saw a cockroach and hubby would saunter in and step on it and say, "What's the big deal?"

I decided rather than eat nonstop, I'd better get back to exercising. I looked at my exercise journal...Last date I exercised was the end of February! Of course, we did have company for 3 weeks in March...that's my excuse.

Kandie, I have a DVD for arthritis that I did today. It has 3 levels. and about 1/2 hour. I need it to stay moving! It's called, "Arthritis Rx" by Acacia

Ok, time to shower and make some cards!
