Kathy, thinking of you! Big hugs and prayers!

Hi all, I had a weird night last night, kept waking up and I think I got about 3 hours of sleep. So annoying... a positive: I finished a book I was reading.

Afternoon!

Oh Gracie that was me last night too!!  I was awake from 4 A.M. on till about 8:30 A.M. I closed my eyes and fell asleep till 10:15 A.M. Such a bummer of a night!

We got about 4 inches of snow and wow is it cold today! It's currently 7 degrees here but the sun is shinning.  Mother Nature is fooling us today giving us a little sun but step outside and your freeze!

Kandie, so sorry to read about your eye, hope you feel better soon!

Kathy, you are my inspiration, I am working on one of those baskets!

Melody, have a good time at class, one of these days I'll bet there!

Good afternoon all!

Kathy - sending you hugs and prayers
Linda - prayers and hugs for you too
Ann - so sorry your year has started out so poorly
Kandie - Praying for a speedy recovery for you
Catherine - I hope your family is feeling better soon and that you don't join them.

It has been a bit of a roller coaster for me, these last few days. We are almost finished the choreography for our dance this year and that is very exciting. We have also added another performance, so now doing 3 shows. I taught my first book folding class on Tuesday and it was very well received. Also on Tuesday, however, my old dog Reggie had a stroke or something just before I left to go to class. She lost her eyesight as well as most of her hearing. To lose it all in an instant was very frightening for her and she spent the whole night with her tail tucked. She still had her sense of smell and would relax a little when we sat with her. It was a long night and yesterday we had to take her to the vet. She had a long life and went peacefully, but she will be greatly missed.

Ann, hopefully, we'll both sleep well tonight!

Linda, sorry to hear you’re having a tough day and missing your mom! Sending you air hugs and prayers.

Annette so sorry about Reggie...it is so hard to let them go. Hugs

Gracie and Ann, I hope you both sleep much better tonight! Great that you finished a book, Gracie, but sleep is better!

So sorry, Linda, it is so hard to lose one's mom. This September it will be 10 years since my mom passed. I still miss her and think about her, but it is different. However, sometimes I still can't talk about her without tearing up. Most of the time I'm good. Her voice is definitely in my head! Sending you (((hugs))))

Oh Annette, I'm so sorry about Reggie. Sending you (((hugs))) too! They certainly become a part of your heart.

By the way, Ann and Gracie, if you like pistachios, eat 6 or 7 of them in the evening. They are a natural source of melatonin to help you sleep.

Catherine says, "By the way, Ann and Gracie, if you like pistachios, eat 6 or 7 of them in the evening. They are a natural source of melatonin to help you sleep."

Thanks for the tip Catherine! I don't know if I could stop at 6 or 7! LOL

I have to go get my supplies ready tonight for my art class tomorrow at noon. 20 kids and 3 cards each! No procrastinating here! LOL

Thanks for the tip about the pistachios!  My lack of sleep is due to DH!! He throws his mask off at about 4 A.M. now for the past three nights!

Annette, so sorry to hear about Reggie. Hugs to you and your family!

Hi Linda, hope you had a better evening.

Kathy, finished my basket, then had to use up the scraps to do another.  If I had not read how you made yours I would not have even looked at the tutorial.  You inspired me, even copied your butterflies with the mini basket.

Happy Galantines day ladies

Thinking of Kathy..sending more hugs and hugs to Linda and also Annette and Kandie.....and in fact hugs all around..group hug. It is Valentine’s Day after all and I’m spreading the love.
Linda, losing a parent is hard. Remember the good times. Annette so sorry about Reggie...it’s just as hard when losing a pet as they are so much a part of the family. Ann and Gracie I hope you slept well. I have those nights and try counting sheep..doesn’t work. The other day I simply started to think about a scrapbook page and that did it lol. Catherine I’m with Gracie, I couldn’t stop at 6/7 lol but I will try that.

Melody hope that your class went well...show us what you made. Kandie, hope that your eye is improving.

I’m going up to my room soon and to finish a card for the Teapot challenge. I did some pages yesterday and will post those too soon. Our pc is doing strange things and I won’t go back on it until hubby arrives...he’s on his way home with a surprise pressie for me although I know what it is as he had to call me and ask me what colour I wanted lol. He had forgotten. It’s a chair for my craft room..yay. He also told me to go and get a small and cheap sewing machine for my room which was supposed to be a birthday pressie..I’m just getting it early. I will test it out once I’ve figured it out. I’m not a sewer.

Last night we went to an outdoor valentines concert where one of our top bands was playing. We took a picnic and the night was awesome. I even got hubby up to dance.

It’s 97 degrees (36) here already..or was an hour ago. I melted when I went out earlier. It’s going to be a home day. I have to finish my card for the Teapot Party.

Sending you all lots of hugs and love......mwah xo

More hugs Linda.

Catherine, I forgot to ask why I was nice lol...the washing was for son3.  He was impressed I had folded it all neatly ready for him to take home. He did chauffeur us to our concert so I guess he repaid us lol.

I’m not in my craft room yet but working on it. I’m sure some of the scs hosts get inside my head.  Yesterday when scrapping I thought I’d use buttons, but didn’t in the end.  I also had a paper pack with queen symbols and bees on it and added those and took the bee off......I tell you some weeks I am thinking of doing something and when I go to a challenge there is the very thing...eek..scary. Lol

Teapot challenge card finished and posted. Doh, I could have put it against the K challenge.

I’ve just planned a page to do tomorrow and did one earlier today. I’m loving scrapping plus I’ve met my personal weekly card quota.

Hubby has put together my chair he bought for me, and it took me 1.5 hrs to figure out how to get my new sewing machine to work..with hubby’s help.

Gosh just to thread the needle is a nightmare for me lol. I put on red thread thinking I could use it on my page and now don’t need it. I keep thinking it’s going to take forever to thread another colour. It only took me a couple of goes to sew sort of straight though lol.

Jayne, you are funny about the length of time to thread the needle, lol.  It’s been years since I did any sewing, but I sure remember that experience.  That, and trying to get the tension right.

Linda, my Mom has been gone over 20 years and I still have bad days.  My dad has been gone 7, some days it feels like yesterday.  ((Hugs)) for you.

Kathy, ((hugs)) for you too, dear lady.

Ann, why does your DH keep taking off his mask?  Is it uncomfortable?

Annette, I am glad Reggie went peacefully, however, his loss makes your heart hurt.  I’m so sorry.  Pets become a true member of our families.  May your heart heal soon.

Here’s what I did with the vintage grater I finally found.  And the folding strainer I’ve had for years.  DH had breakfast with his DH3 in a restaurant that had these strainers used as hanging plant holders, and he told me about the idea.  I parked a potted plant in mine then, and put it on a shelf in a window.

Has anyone ever heard of a smash book?  It’s taking a book, usually a vintage book, and gluing in photos, memorabilia, whatever you want, on the pages in no particular order.  Just “smashing” them together, so to speak.  It’s called the un-scrapbook.

I've heard of those, Kandie.  I don't scrapbook, so I doubt that I'd do these either, but I suppose if you wanted to keep stuff like tickets and brochures from travels without all the fancy stuff in a scrapbook, this would be a good way to keep them all in one place.

How are your eyes today?

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

Kandie, very cool idea, you are so clever with decorating!!

Jayne, nice work!  New chair and sewing machine!!

My sewing machine threads the needle by itself!!  But it's an $8,000 dollar machine that my spouse thought I needed years ago.  We actual asked to add it to our home owners insurance.  The insurance people said they would treat it like my DH tractor for insurance.

What is everyone doing for Valentine's Day?  I'm making steak and lobster tails tonight!

Good morning all! Happy Valentine's day!
Neat use of those items Kandie! I have heard of a smash book but have never done one.
My sewing machine Has a threader arm that makes threading a breeze. It didn't cost anywhere near what Ann's did.
Thanks to all for your hugs and well wishes, they are greatly appreciated.
I am still working on pieces for the art show next week. For supper, it's spinach and cheese ravioli and fresh french bread.

Happy Valentine's everyone! Sorry I've been MIA today, it has been a busy day.

Jayne, you completely figured out why I said you were nice!

Lovely decorating, Kandie. How are your eyes?

I've never heard of a smash book, it sounds interesting.

Wow, what fancy sewing machines you all have! I have three sewing machines but none of them self thread. I also have a serger. Not that I use any of them very often. One machine was mine, the other two came from my mom.

I should probably go get started on dinner, DH hasn't gotten home yet from work but is on his way.

Happy weekend everyone.

Kandie, love the ideas with your vintage strainer...you are so clever. I have smash books. One I’ve used when travelling with the kids and we just smashed and wrote whatever we wanted into it plus I save tickets, receipts, etc. it’s a fun book with pre printed pages and quirky and fun embellishments. Probably more for a younger person but I still find them fun. I’ve got one that I still need to use. I bought mine in a kit off Amazon 4 years ago. I’m a scrapper so it suits me to use them for small trips. I do take a travellers notebook on holiday and doodle and write and add embellishments to those too. It helps when doing my final travel album. I’m now going to make my own instead of buying using up my stash.

Gosh Ann, a self threading machine...wow. That’s expensive. Mine was $99 and I told the lady I just wanted it for craft and sewing paper together and maybe fabric. She gave me a funny look lol. I love to see stitching on cards and pages.

Kandie, thanks for sharing the cards. I had seen 2 of them before...love that butterfly one.....any butterfly on a project is a winner for me lol.

Good to see you Annette. We did nothing on Valentines night as we were out the evening before. Poppets later..yay.

Miss Kathy’s chats. Hope she’s ok. Hugs again for her and Linda and anyone else who needs a hug today.

Now I’m going to play.

Good morning to you all, and happy middle of February already.  Also, happy belated Valentines Day!

Jayne, I was tickled to read about your smash books.  I am going to sort photos today, a pile for each daughter and a pile for me, and make three books, I think.  I found two large books with worn red covers that I think will work for the girls.  I have long been saving two lovely large heart-shaped pendants for them, and I think I will figure out a removable way to fasten each one to the front of their books.

DH and I watched the Masked Singer for the first time last week, just to see what it was all about.  It pretty much took us the entire show to figure out the structure and the clue system, and by the end we were telling each other the clues we figured out, so I believe we’ll be watching it from now on.  It was fun.

LEGO Masters, now, we decided is for a younger crowd, so it will not be on our tv schedule, lol.

We miss Magnum PI on Fridays.  I believe I heard it will be back in March but I don’t know what day it will be on.

The only exciting thing we did yesterday was go to two estate sales.  DH bought an incredibly old food cooking machine called a fireless cooker.  I’ll post a photo later.  I have a dog holding me down so I can’t get up and get anything done.  DH said he doesn’t know where he’ll put it but I have this feeling my “she shed” back porch may showcase a few new non-feminine items this spring.

I found an old silver plate serving spoon with a detailed design and the letter B engraved on it.  For a dollar.  Might be fun to use to scoop potting soil out of a large bag.  More miscellaneous cards for my card box I found last week.  And a wooden shepherd’s hook just like Little Bo Peep might have used to keep her sheep together.  DH said it looked to him like the big hook people used on stage to haul performers off who weren’t pleasing the crowd, and he’s afraid I’ll use it on him when he gets out of line, lol.

We are having three huge trees in our yard cut down as they are dead, and I am fascinated by all the men and machinery this takes, but especially by the young man who must be part monkey who has been scrambling up and down these trees with tools and a chainsaw dangling from his tool belt.  And Dusty has worn herself out with barking at people, so she has enjoyed herself immensely.

Thank you for asking about my eyes.  The right one, done first, is pretty well on its way to being healed, since it’s been two weeks.  I still have two more weeks to put drops in three times a day.  The left eye is still giving me trouble, done just this last Monday.  It dries out real quick even with the drops and is picking up light flashes on the side.  It’ll get better.  And I can see terrific!  Yes, I did get the mono vision lenses, because I’ve always had that style in my contacts.

Whoopee Dusty just got off my lap.  Now I can run around and take photos!

{{hugs}} Linda

Kandie, I can't wait to see pictures. We had 2 huge trees taken down in Wisconsin and they were on the side of the hill heading down to lake. It is amazing watching those "monkeys" on the tree going up and down in their harnesses! I took pictures and watched them work...so amazing. I'm glad your eye surgeries were successful and healing well! Yay!

Jayne, I have a little mini kid's sewing machine in my craft room back in Wisconsin. I didn't want to use my good machine on paper. I love stitching on cards and scrapbooks, but don't do it enough. I'd also like to try Smash books but I don't even get to my scrapbooking. Where does the time go? I guess I should stay off the computer! LOL

Kathy, missing and thinking of you. HUGS

I really have to get back to my card making and check out the ABC challenge cards now that I'm back. Yesterday afternoon, I had 23 kids from 4 to 12 making Valentine cards. What a challenge! Very noisy and hectic. Luckily some of the parents helped. I was exhausted when we got done.

Hi Ann, Catherine, Melody, Sharon, Annette, Shelly, Sharon, Sis Vicki and everyone!

Good evening, friends.  It was a lovely day here, although cold.  The tree guys finished up, got paid, and DH gave them a real nice tip for their excellent work.  Hopefully there will be a few thousand less acorns and leaves near the house this year!

Here are two photos of the cooker, it is lying on its back, so probably hard to see.  Also there is a photo of the silver plate things, and of the wood shepherds hook.

Hi everyone!

Jayne, we really didn't do anything for Valentine's Day either. I never want to go out to eat on holidays because it is crowded and I think the food isn't as good. DH has been fasting but he broke his fast last night because I made something he really loves for dinner because it was Valentine's Day. My mom used to make this and I didn't like it when I was a kid but it is fine now. It is garbanzos and onions in a broth and then covered with homemade dumplings. I didn't like garbanzos when I was a kid. Anyway, DH LOVES that so I made it for him and he broke his fast. He brought me caramels because I love them.

Kandie, I have never watched the Masked Singer but Kathy has enjoyed watching it. I would probably enjoy it too, just haven't tried it.

I'm glad your eyes are healing well. Someone I know here locally just had both eyes done at the same time. I didn't know they did both of them together now but that is what she had done.

Looking forward to your photos.

Wow, Gracie, 23 kids making cards? That would be fun...and tiring! I'm sure you made it fun.

I'm missing several of the ladies here...hugs to you all!

That is a really cool shepherd's hook. I've never seen one like that! Great find Kandie!

Linda, I’m always out of the loop, lol.  I haven’t made cards in so long.  All this other stuff is going on in my life and I get sidetracked for days and then have to read back chatter to catch up.  I think of things to write about and then don’t get it done.  So don’t feel alone.

Regarding smash books, I hauled up my box of photos from the basement yesterday and tried to sort them into individual piles but ran into problems right away, because when the two DDs were young, all their photos were of the two of them together.  A lot of copying on the printer and a lot of cutting and sorting, and I have the girls’ photos for their books done.

But then I started on my own, which I should have done first.  DH was getting a little nervous I might get sad looking at photos of my parents, but it was nice.  I have the poem DD2 read at Mom’s funeral.  I have little to nothing of Dad’s passing because he lived in Texas.  It was so nice to look at family gatherings.  So now I have photos to copy I think the girls would like in their books.

And by the way, I have lots of 8x10s, which would not fit in the vintage books I wanted to use.  Then I tried cookbooks because of the larger format.  As of last night, I gave up and ordered 3” binders in pretty colors, and dividers that look like lace.  I have a machine that makes stickers out of scrapbook paper, so I’ll decorate the binders, and I can then make the smash pages as thick as I want, like with bits of jewelry or puffy stickers, ribbons and dried flowers, without messing everything up so bad I can’t close the book!

I’ve been online this morning looking up thoughtful quotes and cute poems I can print and cut out to use, and even think I’ll use some old cards I’ve received as ephemera.

Speaking of cards received, in MY smash book for ME, all the cards I’ve received from the wonderful friends I’ve made on here, all of YOU, will be included in my pages!  I can’t wait to post photos as I have fun putting all this mess, I mean stuff, together!

That sound like a really enjoyable time Kandie!
I'm still
trying to get some art done for next weekend. I have a number of new
books and some mixed media pieces. I need to finish a few and get
everything framed. I also need to write up my artist bio. I hate that
part. I am not really good at talking about me, I usually just let my
work speak for itself. I'll try and post some pictures soon.

Good morning! It is a lovely, mellow morning here. DD1 is at work, DD1, DD2, and I all have tomorrow off but DH doesn't.

Kandie, is your DH on his best behavior with that shepherd's hook so handy?

That sounds like quite the project you have started for your DDs and yourself. I'm sure the books will be wonderful and that your girls will love them.

So exciting, Annette! I hope your art show goes wonderfully. You can do the bio!

Afternoon all!!

Caught up on the chatter!  Yesterday just got away from me!!

Today, is not much better!  Slept in with the help of Nyquil, was coughing a lot, don't know if it's allergies or still that virus.

Kandie, so glad you are healing and getting fun things for the house.

Catherine, hooray for a mellow morning!

My goodness, Ann, at this point, I hope it is allergies. That is a long staying virus if it is that.

I just made my x card but will wait to photograph it in the morning.

It has been a pretty chill day for us. Got some exercise in, DH did some car repair jobs, I did some laundry, and now I'm working on catching up on some Alphabet cards.
