Happy Tuesday everyone. Check out the Teapot thread for today...*wink*

I was mailing cards today at our PO to find that the cost to overseas had gone up...this I knew and goes up every year, but also that the cost to mail a card locally had also gone up. No problem and so I purchased my new stamps.  What did annoy me, however, was that a card to mail locally due to its size of 5x5 was going to cost me double postage. I was also told that cards overseas go on weight and size and thankfully mine passed the test.  I understand businesses have to make money but in time I don’t know what incentive there will be to mail cards....especially locally where my friends say they aren’t sending cards anymore or hand deliver them to me.  I think I’m one of the few that does send cards. It cost me $2.20 to mail my card locally today, and $3.20 to overseas.

I would be interested to hear if postage is expensive where you ladies live.  I mailed another parcel to the US and that just passed the size/weight test but was still expensive. Crazy and such a shame but I guess online business and people sending texts and messages now is killing the PO profits. I still love snail mail.

Well that’s my rant for today.  Have fun.

Good morning! Another one down in my house. DH woke me EARLY (over an hour before my alarm was set to go off) because DD1 had called him. She went to work early this morning but left early because of not feeling well. She just couldn't drive all the way home so we went down to meet her as far as she got. She is concerned about missing a day of classes tomorrow, but this hasn't been a quick bug to get over. DH told us last night that his boss is concerned that DH got it from him.

Jayne, I don't know how the exchange rate goes from your money to American money but your postage rates sound higher than ours. That said, I usually try to make a one layer card if I'm mailing internationally because of the weight thing.

Yes, I saw the teapot challenge last night, check it out, Alphabet ladies!

I hope Kandie is doing well post surgery.

Morning!!

Yes, love the teapotter's challenge!!  Don't you Sharon?  LOL!

Postage!  Yuck!  You have to remember not to make square cards to mail, unless you put them in a rectangular envelope!!  Envelopes that are not rectangular get charged more for their odd shape!

Most of my cards get the regular postage of a first class stamp which is 55 cents.  Each additional ounce is 15 cents which is not too bad. Make sure to have the additional ounce stamps on hand!

The additional ounce stamp went down this year.

My cards are heavy due to using the Cougar cardstock.  It's a heavy weight cs but I so like it for cards, holds anything I place on it! It still only takes 55 cents to mail unless I am mailing extra items with it!

Catherine, so sorry to hear your other daughter has the bug now!  I would say hug her for me but I don't want you to get sick!!  Give her an air hug for me and I hope she feels better soon!

Will do, Ann, thanks.

Oh yes, I meant to mention the extra charge for square cards - the reason I don't make square cards usually! Where we now live, I pass a cute little post office on my way to the freeway. It is a wonderful little post office with a fabulous clerk, I love it when she is there she is so happy and bubbly, so I pop in there. (Honestly, if the post office was a private business instead of government, this cute little post office would be closed. They would close locations and go to delivery only Mon-Fri to cut costs. But it is government so that doesn't happen.)

Good evening!

We had a hurricane warning this weekend. Fortunatly it wasn't as bad as it could have been. My son called on Monday and told us
everything was ok, at our house.
The storm is going on today and tomorrow.

Catherine, hope your family feels better soon.

Kandie, hope your surgery went well.

Kathy, beautiful cards.

The next hurricane is anounced for Saturday, that's the day we have to drive home.
Hello to Ann, Jayne, Melody, Shelly and all I missed.

Good morning or evening, depending on where you are!

Back from vacation in Maui. Wonderful weather and lots of whales! This year my DD, her friend and friend's parents were there too. We did lots of whale watches, swimming, eating and laughing. Busy time, so I didn't have my computer along. I have a lot to catch up on here!

Just read a few posts! Catherine so sorry to hear your DD1 is sick...hope she gets well quickly.

Kandie, hope your surgery went well and you heal quickly.

Ann, oh no...car troubles! Always something.

Doing laundry and preparing for Valentine's Day card class for home schooler's on Friday!

Hope everyone has a great day...I missed all of you!

Jayne, thanks for the heads up about the tea pot challenge!  That does cheer me up!
I still am hangin in! LOL

Sorry, Catherine for the sickness in your family.  Glad you could work from home and be with DD.
Glad Gracie is back safe from Hawaii.

On news, a cruise ship can’t find a port to land in because of the virus!  All this makes me glad we probably have done all our traveling!
Good to see you posting again, Linda.

Have a good day, everyone!

Oops...sorry Sharon. I did think you would see the teapot challenge but hope I didn’t spoil the surprise. It is a worry about the cruise ships.

Catherine sorry that your DD1 is now sick...gosh I hope that you don’t get it.

Dagmar..hurricane..eek. I know the weather is bad in Europe. Hope you get home safely and your new home is ok.

Ann, sorry to hear about the car. Always something isn’t there and my mum always used to say..it never rains, it pours.

Gracie, so glad that you are back home safely and posting again. Missed your chats. It sounds as though you had a wonderful time.

I’m going pressie shopping and then meeting a friend for lunch. I was hoping to scrap later but son3 has just asked if he can come over and do some washing and stay for dinner..that means..I will be busy lol.

Happy day and hi to everyone else.

Yay! Gracie's back! Welcome back, you have been missed. Glad you had a good time and yes, stepping on the scale after vacation is a bad idea! lol

Oh no to car trouble, Ann. I'm hoping you are getting all the troubles out here at the beginning of the year and the rest of the year will be much better for you!

By the way, DD1 seems to have simply gotten herself worked up and isn't sick after all...thank goodness! DD2 is feeling better but won't be going to school tomorrow either.

Sharon, the poor people on that cruise ship that can't find a place to land!

Jayne, sounds like a fun day!

I'd better head to bed and see if I can get some sleep so I can stay healthy!

Good morning! It has really warmed up here...my home town in Oregon has been dealing with flooding due to rain and warm weather melting the snow pack. I wish they could send the rain down here, we've had a dry winter which isn't good. I thought it was going to be a hard winter when we had snow at Thanksgiving time, but no, it hasn't.

It was as predicted, DH and DD1 are at work and school and DD2 is home but much better. Hopefully she can go to school tomorrow.

I know how that goes, Jayne, days that don't go according to plan!

Hope things are fine with your mom at the eye doctor, Kathy.

Hello Kathy, Catherine, Jayne and others up and about!

Glad everyone is getting healthy again Catherine. We had rain on Monday...I'd send it your way, but I don't think the weather typically goes East to West. LOL Today is a sunny day. Yay! I do love my sunshine!

DH and I are trying to get used to the 3 hour time change and haven't been getting up before 9 a.m. Of course, we haven't been going to bed too early either. Oh well...it doesn't matter when you're retired. I'm heading out to Mahjong this afternoon. Crafting will have to wait until tomorrow.

Morning!

More bad news, the online grocery delivery service I use is closing!!  I am spoiled with not having to run to the store and their meats!

Catherine, glad the family is feeling better.

Kathy, hope all goes well at the eye appointment and Wally World.

I'm home now. It was good to stay busy as we have stressful stuff today yet. I cannot allow my mind to go there or I will go crazy. This is one of those days that I really wish the lord would whisk me away to heaven. I don't do well with stress.

On the good news front, my uncle is one step down from the highest ICU level and is improving. He may be released to a nursing facility in a day or two or maybe even home. He had his spleen removed, broken ribs,, a stent in and his aorta repaired.

Default Hello

Waving hello- spending alot of time today on genealogy.family research.  I had samples done for my parents and myself, and have entered them into a website called GEDmatch.  It compares DNA for anyone that uploads info there (free), so it matches 23 & me, Ancestry, Family Tree, etc....but only for those who upload their info. So, I have joined a few groups there (eg Irish counties for Dad and German for Mom), and you can see who you match and see what segments match on the DNA and compare family trees to see if you are related.
Next, I am uploading hubbies DNA into it.  He is 100% German, and their family has beautifully documented their stories.  My hope is to travel there eventually and hope to maybe meet relatives on the forums, like I did with my Co Wexford Ireland clan.

We are running around a bit to visit kids in the next few months, and just sent in a deposit to go to the Holy Land in December.  Wahoo!
when I do family history, my sone says, "We are all descendants of Abraham"......LOL  SO guess I will meet relatives there as well hehehe

Oh Ann, sorry about you car repairs.

Catherine- so sorry for all who are sick at home!

Dagmar, wow- you have hurricaines near you?  Scary!  You will not drive Saturday, will you?

Kandie, hope your eyes are doing well past the surgery!

Gracie, that is one of the advantages of being retired. It doesn't matter how quickly you adapt back to your time zone. I'm dreading the "spring forward" time change coming up in a few weeks. The spring one kills me!

Ann, so sorry to hear about your grocery delivery system shutting down. That is a bummer...perhaps, when your DH retires, that can be his chore to go grocery shopping.

Kathy, I'm so sorry for the horrible news you received. Praying for you. I must have missed the post about your uncle, glad he is doing better.

How fantastic to be going to the Holy Land, Shelly. I hear wonderful things about trips there and how it makes the Bible come even more alive.

Just tried Amazon Fresh food delivery!!  Was here in four hours from delivery!  Haven't tried their meat yet that will be for tomorrow's dinner.

Spouse shop that is too funny, Catherine.  Last week he was complaining about having to stop at the grocery store.  Now he only stops once in a while, I order in most of the groceries.  All he did was complain and will not put things away!  So haven't asked him to stop since. He some how things he does everything in the house! He is clueless!!

Kathy, hugs and prayers for you that you find some answers and stay stress free.

Shelly, fantastic that you are making headway on your family roots!!

Bummer, Ann, I thought it would be something you could send him to do and get him mobile once he retires! Hope you like Amazon's service and their meat.

Praying for you Kathy.

Ann, DH and I both hate shopping.  I used to do it all.  It was a real battle to get him to stop for anything, but since he started eating low carb, he does all his own shopping, so I just add to his list.  But sometimes I have to shop for myself, because I'm picky about quality for some things.

(((Kathy)))

Ann, my hubby does not like shopping either so we have a pact...I shop, he irons, which I do not like. Since we have retired we have little ironing and most of my stuff doesn’t require ironing. He does help with chores around the house. We call it our teamwork lol.  Hope Amazon meat is a success.

Shelly, awesome to book a trip.  I’d love to go there one day.

I did finish a quick LO yesterday and plan to do more today after I’ve folded 4 lots of washing..not ours. The owner will collect it later....he’s moving rentals and their washing machine is broken plus he says he trusts ours more than where he lives now lol

I'm hoping my spouse gets better when he retires with household chores!  We will see!  He doesn't do much of them now but then I am home full time.  He doesn't cook at all, I've tried to teach him things but he does not want to learn to do anything.

I've said to him what happens if I go first, he said he order in!

Since we live 30 minutes out of town (where DH and I both work), DH calls every evening before heading home just in case there is something needed. There are stores closer but everything up the hill is more expensive. Thankfully, he doesn't mind stopping most of the time. Sometimes he is just tired and I get that.

You are so nice, Jayne!

Good morning, ladies.

Kathy, HUGS and prayers.

Ann, no year is a good year for car repairs, and 2020 for you has already started out bad. Maybe it will even out and the rest of the year will be fabulous!

Ann and Melody, my DH learned to grocery shop out of necessity when his late wife became so ill.  He loves to cook, as did his father and so do his three sons, so doing the shopping has become second nature.  We keep a running grocery list in the kitchen.  Where I am a homebody, he is a runner, he gets fidgety if he sits too long, so he’ll jump up and say, do you need anything from the store?  And the minute he leaves, I switch the tv station to Netflix, lol.  But it’s my job to put everything away!

Whereas last week’s eye surgery went by with me sleeping through everything, this time the sedative did NOT work and I was awake through all of it, and it sure wasn’t a pleasant experience at all.  However, the nurses and assistants were continually sweethearts and were nearby every step of the way, and my doctor is such a total doll that I have mailed a thank-you card to her and her staff.

I couldn’t watch tv because this eye and lid were swollen and gritty, double vision and any bit of light sending sharp pains through, and of course the other lens is for close only, so I’ve spent the rest of Monday and all of Tuesday with my eyes mostly closed.  Yesterday I took lots of eye naps in between watching tv or doing errands around the house.  Now, this morning I can tell healing has begun.  I have been driving DH nuts by reading to him all the tiny print on tv commercials, lol.  I’m still at the point where both eyes get strained quickly, and as it’s not like glasses can be taken off or contacts can come out, I end up going to bed early.

You know, it’s this stupid back pain that is making me miserable.  I still can’t sleep well because I can’t get comfortable, and the heating pad is a constant buddy on the couch.  Kathy, I have so much understanding now of what you go through.

How is everyone’s weather this morning?  We have snow plus COLD weather tomorrow, in the single digits.

Catherine, OH NO on the illness spreading around your family again!  DH’s DS2 stopped by yesterday to borrow a tool but wouldn’t come inside because his whole household is sick.  AGAIN.

Hello to everyone I missed!  Hope your day is a good one!

Good morning.

Kandie, bummer about your eye.  Did you wear contacts that were one for close and one for distance?  I tried that once at the eye doctor, but said no.  I wore hard, then gas permeable lenses, and thought about the times when I'd get something in one eye while driving.  I hope you heal quickly.

I have class this morning in 1/2 hour.  It is snowing, but supposed to quit soon.  DH snowblowed the driveway before leaving for the gym, but 'suggested' that I shovel again before the ladies get here.  I don't think that's going to happen -- well maybe the walk...

Good morning!

Good to hear from you Kandie. Praying the healing is quick and complete! That would be frustrating not being able to watch TV or read for any length of time. I guess you could listen to TV and pretend it was back in the day when radio was the entertainment. Anyway, praying you heal quickly!

You asked about the weather where we are. Ours is warm during the day for this time of year. The mosquitos are coming out and being aggressive. I'm hoping and praying this is a false spring and more "winter" weather will come. It has been too dry this winter. Of course here we can't win either way. If we get lots of rain that makes more fuel for later in the summer when it is hot and dry. If we don't get lots of rain, we still have lots of fuel for fire season. So it is a no win either way. However, getting the snow and rain is needed for our summer water supply.

My home town in Oregon is recovering from their flooding. If I had still lived there in the house where I grew up, I would not have been able to get to town or get home depending on where I was when the flood happened. The bridge I crossed daily to get into town was closed during that time and the river was over the banks. There was concern that more flooding would happen this week but I haven't seen anything indicated that happened, thankfully.

Snow and class, Melody? So pretty and a fun way to spend your day!

I'd better go get ready for work, will check in again before I head out.
