Hi everyone. Kandie hope your back has improved and good luck with your surgery.  Family dramas..we all get those from time to time

Shelly, glad you got rid of the smell.

Kathy, it sounds as though your church need you there regularly.

I’m just home from my craft group and we made 2 beautiful cards using SU products. I will post them later.  I told the group I wouldn’t be buying this year..they all laughed. I really don’t think they realise how much stuff I have lol.

Hope you all enjoyed the Superbowl and your team won.

School started back here today...summer holidays over. The poppets are growing up and DGS said Nannie I go to double digits this year lol

Thanks re the suggestions on cards.  I am going to regift the card fronts and save special ones. I will keep them for 2 years first though

It was 72 here yesterday!  Warmer than Miami!  Ha!   It now, it is turning Winter again!
I guess you could say our team won the Super Bowl.  We only watched pieces if it to see the score!
I am going to try to go to Biblestudy tonight.  We will see how I feel by 6:30.  DH said he would take me.

And , Ann I hope .February is fabulous for you!

Thinking of Kandie this morning.
Shelly, I think SM in Kandie’s case is Step Mom.  And glad you got the smell out of your car seat.

Kandie, I do not know SM, so I googles SM meaning..... go look see
LOL I am going to have to guess...it means sweet mother?
So sorry your family is venting to you.
Best of luck with your eye surgery tomorrow!
I have back issues as well. For a new injury, ice. And, if you leave heat on it can actually increase stiffness. Not sure what meds they have you stop for eye surgery, but anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen, Aleve, or even Tumeric : ) You can google gentle stretches- but slow and easy!
Oh, the water and vinegar- I did it twice yesterday with a little added dishsoap too, but hubby re-did it with water and vinegar and so far, so good! Thanks.

Kathy- I thought the halftime show was a little too racey for my taste- goodness! People I know either loved it (as the performers are over 40...) or did not think it was tasteful.

One of the Superbowl commercials (Walmart) used a picture of the downtown my city....the one with the train.....funny thing, we DO NOT have a Walmart IN our town.......

Sharon- so glad to hear you are healing and doing more and more for yourself! How wonderful to have the time to go through your older photos too!

Ann- hope you are felling better! And, that Feb is good to you!

Waving hello to all
Shelly

In Kandies case it is step mom, but I sure won't try googling because I'm pretty sure what I find wouldn't be appropriate on here! LOL I find myself with unanswered questions many times because I'm afraid to Google what it might be.

When JLo turned around during her dance, she left nothing to the imagination! I guess she belongs on that pole! What a pity she felt the need to show that just because she's 50! I was also surprised with Shakira. I only know her from a song from a kids movie, so I thought she'd be a bit more conservative.

Afternoon!  My usually Monday stuff is done!  Changed sheets and dusted and vacuumed our room!! Now wash is running!

Hugs to Kandie today!

I did not like the half time show!  Their music is wonderful but their actions are another. I thought some of the shots of JLO where vulgar and so distasteful! Yeah she looks great for 50 but come on! A very sexist show!

I watched the entire came and was happy to see that the Chiefs won!  A lot to do with how the 49ers acted towards the Packers in the past!  They needed to be put in their place!

Ok I'm done!! LOL!

Happy Birthday to Jennifer!  Hope you are doing well.

Hope February is better for everyone!!

Victoria, how are you???

Jayne, you know that you can use a different background if you don't have a script.  You just want one that isn't going to overwhelm the rest of your card.

Thank you Linda. I didn't want you to cry. I love them too. My friend who is a SU demo lady is very talented. She decides on what we will make each month and brings all her stash and we pay her for making 2 cards. We decide the month before what type of cards we would like to make. I love using her stash and last year I would order a lot from her. This year I am not buying....remind me of this if I fail Take care

Thanks Melody.  I was thinking last night of which flower die cuts I could use.  I do have the SU daisy punch and stamp set.  I do love script on cards though.  I thought I could try sponging through my script stencil but I remembered I have a Catherine Pooler script BG stamp...I think it's all about love though   Any more suggestions on what to use I would gladly welcome.  I also like the twine we used underneath the flowers and thought I could put floss on a card.  I will definitely make similar cards again.

Linda, I have the Magnolia EF from the collection.  My friend bought the stamp/die and papers.  She buys everything together.  It is such a beautiful collection in their current catalogue.  Maybe you have something similar in a stamp/die set that you could use and case the card as Melody suggests.

Happy day

Kathy I bet you have the papers and EF too....it's so beautiful.  I so love making SU cards and in hindsight I should have just stuck with their collections.  I do have a lot of their stamps and must start using them.  My goal is to ink up one stamp set per week I haven't used or use a die I haven't used.

It's very warm here today so I am staying indoors apart from nipping out to get a few groceries.  I have done my Monday chores...yes I know it's Tuesday LOL...I move my Monday chores day to Tuesday when I have my craft group LOL.  Ann, I am a creature of habit and also do my chores on a Monday.  All is done and now I can play after I have checked in on here.

Happy day everyone and thank you for the kind comments on my cards including the one I made yesterday when I came back home.  It motivates me and I appreciate it.

Default Hello

Hello ladies!

Oh, Step Mother was one thing that did not come up when I googled....LOL  I guess Kathy is right, sometimes, use my imagination and do not google!

Agree with you Ann!  I was so shocked that people were saying the half time show was so great- I thought it was way too racey!  Outfits and gestures and the pole dancing- and the kids on stage....  way too much for conservative me!

Jayne- those cards are gorgeous!!!   I used to have a SU demo here (moved to Florida) that made the most fabulous cards.  I miss her- no demo I know goes all out and makes such beautiful cards!  You are lucky! Or, maybe not...LOL

My son's best friend just finished his ER rotation in Kansas City and took a job there.  So, we were rooting for KC in the Super Bowl.  Also, the KC kicker is acquaintance with a priest at our church.

Busy day tomorrow- starts out with drawing class. No piano as my wrist is acting up on my Lt arm, I have a bone spur that is giving me grief....  and Bible study tomorrow night.  I am going to run to shop for a new mattress after art class.  We need a new one.  fun fun and so hard!

Hope Kandie did well today!  Thinking of you and keeping you in prayers!

Shelly

Hi Shelly, sorry to hear about your wrist....hope it comes good and you can get back to playing your piano. Happy mattress shopping.

I also hope that Kandie's op goes well today.

Sis Vicki, come on out now....too long. I hope your migraines are better.

I am going to check out some of your cards before I'm kicked off this pc...hubby wants it LOL

Good morning, ladies, thank you so much for all your good wishes!  What an experience that was.  And for DH, what a day it turned out to be.

I had my little green Grossnickle Eye Center bag, fun to see at this surgery center how many people were carrying little green bags, lol.  I was supposed to have my yellow folder with all my times and dates and drops schedule in the bag, but as I walked in the door of the surgery center I realized I FORGOT MY FOLDER!  Poor DH took off back for home to get it.  I did have my ID and insurance card.  It was so busy at this place that DH had time to run the 15 minutes home and back before my name was called to get registered.

Then we were told there was a $300 co-pay, which no one had told us about.  The girl behind the counter called the lady from Billing to come up and talk with us, and she said we should have received a call notifying us of the co-pay (no one did.), and she kept apologizing.  $300 next Monday for the other eye as well.  I said, there goes our new furnace.  DH’s hair, what little he has, was standing on end after that conversation.  Literally, it was.  He kept grabbing it, lol.

Long wait after that, and then two of the nicest young ladies I ever met took me back to get ready.  She had an entire tray of different drops she kept putting in my eye.  Then my doctor come in and started drawing on my face with a black marker, lol.  Cap over my hair, no make-up on whatsoever, those funny socks with slip proof stuff on the bottoms, and off we went.  The anesthesiologist was a comedian.  They lined me up under this massive machine - and I don’t remember anything after that.

I’m sure those of you who have already had cataract surgery know the after effects of the surgery, something like ground glass in the eye and huge blurring and hugely swollen eyelids.  It was easier to keep my eye closed than open it, so I spent the evening watching tv with my eyes shut.  This morning it’s actually clearer to type this without my glasses than it is with them!  The distance eye gets done next Monday.

Re to half time show, I was in the shower, and DH came in and complained about the suggestive dancing and moves.  He was totally disgusted.  Chiefs won, yay!

Oops,  I’ll tell you about the rest of DH’s day after my early morning checkup at the eye doctor.  Be back soon!

Default Doing your genealogy

Good morning to all! I just joined this site and so happy I found it!
annsforte3, Genealogy is such a great hobby. I have been doing it since 2000 and love it. Like you said it is sad when you find that a death brings you to beginning your ancestry research. Many researchers start that way. I did when I lost my mother in 1999. She was a Redgate and she always said if you meet a Redgate we are most likely to be be related. How true! My ggreat grandfather was 1 of many family members who came to the the US and the rest of his family went to Nova Scotia, Canada. Eventually many of the Canadian families came to USA and usually went to the New England area. But we are in many different states. I haven't been able to get any further than my ggreat grandfather and have yet to find his wife Margaret's maiden name. My father and my cousin did a lot of research on our 2 Ryan ancestors and I add to it with new info.
Keep at it and you will find something exciting and run with it. So exciting to find distant cousins!
I did the DNA tests and I am 100% Irish! So excited to find that out.
Just keep at it. I haven't done very much since 2018. I will get back to it.
Hope to read some exciting posts from all of you!

Default Crazy family interactions

I feel for you. Right now you need to focus on yourself. How did your eye surgery go? Hope it came to a resolution to the problem you were having with your eye. I will offer my prayers to help you through such a trying time. There is always one in a family that other family members designate to resolve all the issues and events that come around. Sounds like that is you. You need time for you and time to make for yourself. I used to take a book or whatever else I might be doing and go to the library and sit and read or do some research. I would sit for hours and let all the stress fade away and until that stress was gone I would stay.
You might be in a situation where you find it is not feasible to be gone for any length of time. Just remember you can't help anyone without helping and taking care of yourself first.

<my back aches, and the eye surgery is tomorrow.  I have been burying my nose and thoughts into books, lol, taking my mind far, far away from the aggravations of real life.>

And how does that "I cannot buy" work with you? I had to laugh when I read that! I say it all the time and it is rare I listen to myself!

Good morning, Karen, and welcome to the Alpha Group.  Everyone here is so terrific!!!  We’re glad you have joined us!

Eye checkup went great.  I was the first in the door, and a whole row of men and women trailed in after me, all of us carrying our little green bags.  . Apparently I am the only one who was there this morning who slept through the surgery.  Everyone else was complaining about all the flashing lights.  Hey, I’m always up for a nap.

Anyway, DH brought me home, and then he proceeded to roast a turkey breast for supper.  When it was done, he was dumping the liquid out of the roaster into a pan in the sink and the roaster slipped, dumping the turkey grease all over the rug in front of the sink.  I thought it advisable to pretend I was sleeping as he ranted in the kitchen.  Later he opened the bifold doors in the bedroom to get something from the closet and the doors fell off.

I pretended to sleep through that too.

His hair was really standing on end by night time.

I'm in the waiting room. They just took Dad back for his eye exam.

Kandie, I can't imagine grease cleanup! I would be grumbling too!

Morning!!

Welcome, Karen!!  So glad you  are joining us!!  We are a fun group!!

Kandie, so glad everything went well!!  I can't image being as calm as you were during the surgery!  I would freak! Can't stand anything going into my eyes!  My eye doctor has to hold my eye open to get the drops in!!

Oh yes, those are gorgeous cards!  So cheerful. Way to go Jayne!!

Yesterday was the first day I did not have ear pulsing!  Yeah for progress on that front.

Except after my hot shower I now have hives all over my chin, face, and neck!  Yikes, dairy does me in!!  I'm off Zyrtec for now.  I think it is the cause of my belching re-flux, that's what the doctors call it.  I get air that comes up and it hurts like crazy, it's loud too!

Off to make a card or two! Enjoy your day ladies!

Default Hello

Welcome Karen- I am fairly new to Alpha too.  I love it becuase it keeps me stamping and my goal is to use unused stamps- if I have any to fit the weekly challenge.

We have Ryans on my Dad's side as well.  He was 100% Irish.  In Ireland, they had 'clan names' for families, so we have 2 Ryans married to each other from different clans : )

I began my research in 1999 also, when my Grandmother died.  She was 96.  And, I love history and love a challenge!  It is much easier now with Ancestry!

I also did a DNA test, and both of my parents as well.  I exported our DNA to GEDmatch as well- it compares your date to users who have uploaded it there from 23 and me, family tree, Ancestry, etc......  My top matches are mostly from my dad's Irish side : )

This past summer, I was able to travel to Ireland and met up with many relatives 2nd cousins) and was also able to visit the home my Great-grandmother was born and raised in.  It was incredible!

I love the research for genealogy!  I know I'm nuts but the thrill of finding the information is exciting to me!

I have been researching since about 1998 when my MIL started to go down from Alzheimer. She remembered more things from the past then the present so it was a good way to stay in touch with her. Plus getting family information!

I have over 30 binders filled with information on the families I research.  My spouses side is from Poland so for years I would go to the LDS to look at films.

It is getting easier with more information online!!

I just took a subscription to Newspapers.com and I already have one to Genealogybank.com  Finding the obits for extended family sure is a great help.

If anyone needs something looked up just email or pm me, I would be happy to look for you.

Well back to scanning!  MY goal is to get all the paperwork on my computer and no more binders with the exception of original documents!

Now that I have bored most of you with all of this...

I never get the flu shot. I never get the flu. I think a lot has to do with the fact that I don't go out much so I'm not around others much. I hide inside my own little world! And I can't catch it from my online friends!

I'm like you, Kathy.  I don't get the shots, don't get the flu, don't go out much.  I think eating fairly healthy helps as well.

Welcome Karen....it doesn’t usually work but that was last year.  Here we are in February and I haven’t bought a thing....yet

Genealogy is a great hobby.

Check out Ann’s alpha card challenge.  You will enjoy this thread. The ladies are very welcoming and supportive...and we have fun chatting lol.

Linda are you able to get your dad to help you or just do a simple card to get you motivated again?  Maybe use some panels sent to you or card fronts and go from there.  Sorry, I don’t know your situation but I am trying to think of how “we” can help you start again.

Hi all,

Just jumping in to welcome Karen!

I have had flu shots in past years, but have not had one for ages. BUT, having said that, I am considering getting one for whenever they start the new regime around October of this year.  I started with a head cold, and I stayed home for 8 days, as I figured that was better than spreading my germs to others.  If it had stayed a head cold, I would not have had a problem, but what it morphed into was the most depressing flu and symptoms that I have ever had. I am still not 100% but getting there. Sheesh! If a flu shot will prevent that happening again, I am in. I have not had any colds or flu for quite some time, so this really blew me out of the water.

Ann, I am noticing people with the surname of Otto, in Take Ten mags I have been looking through lately. Do you have relatives that are into cardmaking? Or is it just that Otto is a common name?

Waving hello and hugs to all,
Shirl
