Need to bring a dish to pass this weekend? This make-ahead strawberry pretzel salad will disappear quickly at any potluck. —Aldene Belch, Flint, Michi
OTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. Bake: 10 min. + chilling YIELD: 16 servings.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups crushed pretzels (about 8 ounces)
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • FILLING:
  • 2 cups whipped topping
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • TOPPING:
  • 2 packages (3 ounces each) strawberry gelatin
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 packages (16 ounces each) frozen sweetened sliced strawberries, thawed
  • Optional: Additional whipped topping and pretzels
Directions
  • 1. In a bowl, combine the pretzels, butter and sugar. Press into an ungreased 13x9-in. baking dish. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
  • 2. For filling, in a small bowl, beat whipped topping, cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Spread over pretzel crust. Refrigerate until chilled.
  • 3. For topping, dissolve gelatin in boiling water in a large bowl. Stir in sweetened strawberries; chill until partially set. Carefully spoon over filling. Chill until firm, 4-6 hours. Cut into squares; serve with additional whipped topping and pretzels if desired.

Default Hello

Yikes, that came out huge!

I used to make this alot- but with dairy allergies, I do not make it anymore, and we have too many people who are Gluten free attending our family gatherings.

It is COLD in the Western slope of Colorado! It is usually warmer here than Chicagoland and suburbs, but not this year!

Oh I have bad allergies and sinus issues- I swear by the Netti Pot! Plus Zyrtec, Mucines, nasal spray...etc...... Both of my daughters are stuffy that last couple of days too- luckily not bad enough to have to sleep in a chair!

I had a huge wrist surgery on just ONE wrist, and washing your hair, going to the bathroom, etc was all a challenge. Just cannot imagine with 2 wrists. I will send her a card once I get back home.

No cardmaking supplies with me, but I have paint pouring supplies. I have wanted to try this for so long!!! We will do this today!

Wow Gracie, what alot of work! But, the ones with cinnamon sound delicious!

Off to get something done- baby is sleeping nextdoor, so giving them some 'space'. Hubby is over there trying to work out a 529 to start for the baby..... I will stay here! LOL

Have a great day! Anyone planning an exciting New Years celebration? I will be able to stay up, not sure how many others here will do that though!

Shelly

YUM! Shelly, that dessert looks so delicious! I love strawberries!

Catherine and Kandie, adorable photos of dogs and Wesley, too! So sweet! I was able to open Catherine's picture.

Kandie, glad your DH is feeling better. I always love your pictures and looking at things around you...your lovely decorating!

Kathy, I'm glad your son is starting to feel better. Have fun shopping!

Jayne, my craft room was like yours last week and then, I took a day and cleaned it...so nice to go in and make a card on a clean table! LOL

I play Mahjong this afternoon. Nice sunny day today!

I hope everyone who is ill is feeling better! Love and hugs to Sharon!

Good morning! It is sunny and chilly here. Of course, chilly here is, generally, much warmer than chilly elsewhere.

Naughty Wesley! DH let her out of her room so she has the run of the house. She knows she isn't supposed to go into the kitchen but does that stop her? Of course not! He left a lower cabinet door open and she was in the cupboard! In trouble on two counts. Yes, she had a timeout in her carrier.

Dusty is so sweet, Kandie! Sorry you and Kathy couldn't load the photo of Honey and Wesley. It was funny, I have an entire progression of their time on the love seat. Honey would wake up and want to turn her head the other direction but Wesley was on that side, so she would keep her head turned away for the most part. She cracks me up.

Glad to hear that your DH, Kandie, is feeling better and your son too, Kathy.

I've never heard of pineapple cream pie but DD2 would probably love it. She absolutely loves pineapple.

Kathy, I have always associated fever and achiness with the flu as well.

Shelly, I'm pretty sure my parents used to make a strawberry pretzel dessert like that recipe. I seem to recall that. I think mom liked to serve it when they had company because it makes a pretty presentation.

Have fun with the paint pouring, it looks like fun when I see people do it.

Do you still have snow, Gracie?

I've made the sstrawberry pretzel recipe too. I need to remember to crush the pretzels better because my crust gets hard with the bigger pieces.

I paid the cell phone bill but did not go to Michaels. I only went to AC Moore. Right now they still have a lot of stuff and the discounts are mostly 25%. has 70% off on Christmas items and other percentages throughout the store but the main one is 25%. I got a set of dies that has the months and the days of the week. the days are abbreviated but two months are spelled out. It also had three Year dies, but they were for 2016, 2017, and 2018. I bought a 15 yard roll of white ribbon that has gold trim on it for $3.75. Mom called before I left and had prescriptions waiting at Walmart. I was going to run down there after I get home, but praise the Lord my sister showed up and she went for them. I was just worn out after that little bit of shopping so I was really appreciative that she was willing to go

Kathy, thanks for posting the recipe. I have the same question as Melody?

Shelly your recipe looks awesome too. I am not generally a fan of pretzels for some reason, but in a base, I bet it is good! Thanks for taking the time to post it.

Doing laundry and have to tidy up. We have 4 friends coming for New Year's. We might all cave by 10:30 p.m., lol.........But it will still be fun!

Catherine, they are adorable sleeping together. New additions to my step-son's family- they just got two new kittens yesterday. (Max's birthday is today the 30th and he is 10 today.) Got them a day early. They have been going every day for the last two weeks to visit them at the pet store. They got litter mates, a male and female. One is gray- I think the female and the other orange- a male.

Kandie- Dusty is tired from all the Christmas celebrations!

Card for Sharon went out today!

Thanks, Kathy. My interpretation of 10x would have been 10 times something. LOL I've never heard powdered sugar called anything else but confectioner's sugar.

My thought is 10x finer than granulated! I think Dominos powdered sugar may actually say 10x on the bag (2 lb. Bag or 1 lb box). My generic brand doesn't.

Powdered sugar and confectioners sugar are the same thing. What's Cooking America speculates that the terms are simply a regional preferences and points out that in England and Canada, powdered sugar is calledicing sugar. It's also sometimes called 10X, which refers to how fine it is.Dec 9, 2014

Wow, I have never heard it called 10X before. I learned something new, thanks, Kathy! I have heard all of those other terms for it - confectioners, powdered, and icing.

DH ended up having to take a cabinet down off the wall in order to run the wires for electricity for the pendants. What a pain! I worked from home today so I emptied the cabinet for him and then had to help him pry it off the wall. Thankfully, nothing broke on the cabinet or the tile backsplash. What a job!

Shirl, I'm glad you liked the card.

I just happened to notice the price on that 10x! $7.37!!! For 1 lb! I buy two lbs of generic for less than $1.69 most times!

We are getting snow. The ground is already turning white. 1-3 inches expected. And windy. 15-25 mph + gusts to 30. I'll stay inside, thank you.

The snow we had is almost all melted. I saw on the weather that Wisconsin was getting a snow storm. Good idea to stay in Melody!

I never knew that about 10X for powdered sugar, Kathy. You learn something new every day! LOL

Catherine, I sure miss my cats! I love hearing about Wesley!

Poor DH is still working away in the kitchen. He is taking this opportunity to add insulation in the attic to an area that is hard to reach any other way but I hear him coughing. If DD1 was out here she would be scolding him for doing this without wearing a mask.

There are three holes in my ceiling for the three pendant lights that will be over the sink area, I can't wait to see them in action!

I think I buy C&H powdered/confectioner/icing/10x sugar but don't recall how much it cost. I was just using some to make frosting for the sugar cookies.

Brr to the wind, Melody! Yes, staying inside seems like a most excellent idea.

We have had temps in the 40's. Very mild for this time of year but I'm not complaining.

I just realized why everyone wanted to know what 10 x was. I usually write 10x sugar so when I went back to look at the recipe I see I only wrote 10 x. No wonder everyone was confused, especially if you've never heard the term 10x before!

Kathy, I still would have been confused even with 10x sugar written.

I hope Ann is OK after having her granddaughters all weekend and her with a cold!

Linda, I haven't really done anything with mason jars so I'm no help to you. Good to see you on the thread though!

Time for bed. I'm working on a project that is hard to put down! I'm making calendars for my five card class friends. Samantha from mixed up crafts posted a tutorial today and I found the perfect dies today! I will post a picture here in the thread tomorrow. I have one complete, another one just needs put on the base, and three more are all cut out, but need put together. I will need to run to town for binder rings to finish them.

Happy NY Eve everyone. We will be having a quiet one and in bed at the usual time LOL.

I received a card from Annette today...thank you Annette, so kind of you and hope that you are going ok. (I hope Annette reads this as we haven't heard from her for a while.)

Sharon asked me several pages of chat ago about whether I live near Susie, etc. I meant to respond at the time and forgot. So if Sharon is reading this they all live over on the East Coast of Oz, thousands of miles from me LOL. Susie is in Melbourne, Sue28 (Sydney) and Helekins (Canberra). They are all closer together than I am but they also aren't that close. We are known as Wait Awhile here in the West as it takes so long to get here LOL.

I also hope that Ann is ok. It's not like her but maybe she's having a break which is good for her and especially as she's not been well.

The poppets came to visit today...such fun.

Well time for me to get off this pc. Wishing you all a healthy and a year full of lots of self care, creating and joy. Hugs

Good morning and Happy New Year’s Eve.

Jayne, thank you for your sweet Christmas card! Such a nice surprise!

DH is better, according to that VERY helpful chart, he does have a cold.

I, on the other hand, woke up nauseated as all get out, if you’ll pardon a Midwest Indiana phrase, my neck and throat feel like I’m swelled up like a pelican, and I’m coughing up gunk again. Every joint aches. I took both Zyrtec-D and Aleve, hope they help. We dropped to the 20s and are getting 1 to 2 inches of snow. DH went to the store for a few groceries and said it was packed with people stocking up for the “coming blizzard”. What? It’s supposed to be in the high 40s by Thursday and 50s by Friday!

On that note, I hereby dedicate this photo to the shoppers at our area Meijer store!

Good morning! Yesterday was a L-O-N-G day for DH but he got the pendant lights installed and they work. Hallelujah! Now he is contemplating installing the regular ceiling light for the kitchen.

He says, "What I should do is install another junction box but I was thinking of trying to make it work." I told him that he should do it the way he thinks is right because I think it will bug him if he doesn't as he is a perfectionist.

You were up late, Kathy! I look forward to your photo of the calendar project.

Jayne, I'm glad you live in the west as, I believe, the fires are in the east. But now I'm concerned for Susie, Sue, and Helen! I did see, on another thread, that Helen is struggling with the smoke and heat.

Brr, Dagmar! That is cold! I'm glad you are getting better, progress, right?

Oh no, Kandie, sorry to read you are achy and not well this morning. Glad your DH is better, now you need to get better! Oh my goodness at your funny, that is too true of some people!

I must run, I'm off to work in the office today (yesterday I worked from home).

Good morning. Happy almost new year.

Catherine, do you need to have a permit to do all that electrical work? We do. In our last house, DH did a lot of stuff in the basement, so when we were getting ready to sell, we had my BIL (who was an electrical contractor) check out everything and bring up to code anything that needed it. Otherwise you get charged double permit fees. Also because my BIL did it, the inspector probably wasn't near as thorough in his inspection, because he knew my BIL did good work.

Good New Year's Eve Day and Happy New Year to those sleeping and reading this tomorrow!

Jayne, good to hear from you. I'm glad you had a fun day with the poppets! I keep reading about how awful all the wildfires are in Australia. So sad for both people and critters. Hopefully, our SCS friends closer to the fires are doing OK. Fires are a big concern in Arizona in the summer time, too. Sending hugs and prayers to the firefighters, too!

Catherine, so glad your DH is getting his projects done! Do you get done work early today?

Kathy, can't wait to see your calendar projects! I'm glad you could help Linda with ideas for mason jars. I've never painted jars. It was good to hear from her and know that she's crafting.

Dagmar that is some cold weather! Sure hope you kick that cold soon! Happy New Year!

Melody, my DH is having the garage wired for electricity and he has to have a permit. He's digging an 18" trench from electrical box to garage and even has to have that inspected to make sure it's deep enough. Tough going in this hard rock filled desert clay. He's using a pickax. I'm not helping with that project! LOL

Kandie, so sorry you woke up feeling like "crap" as we say in Wisconsin! I hope you and DH get well soon! Not a good way to start the New Year! That photo of the shopper reminds me of people in Northern Arizona! LOL They, also, are all bundled up when it gets below 50 degrees.

Ann, I sure hope your feeling well and just taking a well-deserved break from SCS.

Still praying and thinking of Sharon! Maybe she can have her DH type us a message to let us know how she's doing.

And, Sis Vicki, hope the New Year brings you good health and no more migraines! Hugs

Hi Shirl, Annette, Shelly, Linda and anyone I've missed! Off to make a card for the Teapot Tickle challenge.

We've never needed permits for inside wiring DH did. We totally remodeled the boys room, including a new light fixture, but didn't need permits.

Both Wisconsin and Arizona require permits for wiring. Pretty strict building codes.

Kathy, those are very pretty desk calendars!

Dagmar, I hope you get to feeling better soon! I like your bokeh New Year pic.

Hi Linda, nice to hear from you. I don't have any answers for your mason jar ?. Sorry.

Kandie, sorry you are not feeling so good with all those aches and pains. That is one hilarious shopper pic.

Hi Gracie, Melody, Ann, Catherine, Victoria, Karen, Annette and Shelly and all!

Jayne, I got your birthday card in today's mail. Thank you so much.

Very rainy and blustery here today. We are in for some rain for a few days.

Happy New Year to all!

And they are always changing, upgrading, etc., the codes. My BIL always needed to be on top of that.

I still had 3 glass ornaments left, so I decided to make them up into the antiqued ornaments, even though Christmas is past. I was working on those today. Not done yet, though.

Happy New Year everyone!!

Not for me! I'm sick! Sick all weekend and three kids to take care of!

Went to the doctor yesterday. I have fluid in my ears, wheezing in my chest and bronchitis! Such fun! They gave me a breathing treatment at the clinic.

So I'm sleeping a lot. Spouse has it too! Took him two days longer to get it! Mine came on Christmas morning!

Will catch up on the chatter when I better! Hugs to all and to all goodnight!

PS. heard from Victoria she is sick too! Trying to rest as much as she can and stressed with the upcoming funeral of her MIL!
