Oh my goodness, I have missed all of you!

Thank you so very much for your prayers for my brother. He is recuperating nicely at home. He still has a drain in place, but is getting better daily. I think the only thing that saved him was prayer. So, thank you.

Mom is still sore from her falls, but is managing to stay on her feet and is being very cautious with her steps.

I have managed to pop in and out of here a few times, and I always exit with a smile on my face. So thank you Ladies for being you!

I have not caught up on all of the chatter and probably will not catch up...oh well. If there is something really important, someone will mention it again.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday...

Happy birthday, Gracie! I hope your day is fantastic and blessing filled!

Hi everyone! DD2 is having a fabulous weekend - and I am covering her job for her. Her best friend is home visiting her dad for the weekend, I'm not sure when she goes back to New Hampshire, if it is today or tomorrow. But DD2 got to spend most of yesterday with her and they had a sleepover last night. That means that I went over and fed the dogs last night and this morning. I could have gotten hooked on HG-TV while over there but didn't. I still need to deal with the refrigerator...I should have yesterday but I didn't.
Speaking of that, do I need to throw my eggs away? They were without refrigeration for 2 1/2 days, what do you think?

Last night, when DD2 went to take Honey out for the night, she couldn't open the usual security door that we use to let her out. I tried to open it, she went outside and tried from outside, but no luck. I have no idea what happened! Of course, whatever it is, it happened when DH is gone. That figures!

Kandie, California has always had the potential for fire danger however, in years past, they have used wise forest management so we didn't have the problems with out of control fires. In more recent years, hysteria has prevailed and not allowed responsible logging and brush clearing resulting in much more fuel for out of control fires. I guess you can tell my opinion on the subject! Of course, I grew up in logging country. Yes, there can be bad logging but the companies I knew of practiced responsible logging. OK, I'd better quit talking about it!

I love your new light blue walls! And I'm sure you do too. So pretty.

Congrats to Carlene and Kandie on your weight loss. I need to start making better choices in that department, my weight is going the wrong direction.

What a sweet video, Kathy! Sorry your mouth hurts, I hope you recover and graduate to solid food soon.

Catherine, if you basically kept your fridge closed during the outage, some of the things should be fine. I would simply break the eggs into a separate container before you use them. I think you should be able to tell if they are not good by the smell. Before refrigeration, I think eggs were left out on the counter -- remember egg baskets? We tend to be so paranoid about expiration dates now to the point of being ridiculous in some cases.

It is temperature abuse of items that bring on bacteria. So if the items in your refrigerator were kept at a constant temperature you are fine!

IF NOT you should not use them! This is especially true for any dairy items and meats! It's not worth your health!

If your eggs were at a room temperature to begin with and kept at room temperature that's fine. But having them at one temperature and then raised or dropped to another begins the biggest cause of health risks to individuals!

Sorry to say it's not expiration dates that is the major cause of illness it is the abuse of products. Like you see in stores of items that are in the aisles too long and not placed in the refrigerated areas fast enough, beware!! Have you ever noticed getting a frozen pizza and it had white areas around the crust, or too must frost on the item, if you have, that item has been temperature abused!

With having my own business I had to take the sanitation and safety course for the State of Wisconsin! The amount of diseases that are sparked by temperature abuse is astounding!

Don't take chances with your health, especially if your immune system is down.

Thanks, Ann and Melody. I did google it as well and found a response similar to yours, Ann, that the problem is having them refrigerated and then not kept cold being the cause of the growth of bacteria. That sucks, there goes the eggs.

I am not throwing everything out but yes, pretty much anything dairy. I threw the meat for the animals out the second day of the outage. I do think there are things in there that may not really need refrigeration. I don't know about things like BBQ sauce and ketchup. They are dairy free so I think it should be fine, but don't really know. Oh...what about butter? Such a pain!

Sorry to preach but it is a big concern of mine!!

So the same thing can happen if you place items that have not cooled down sufficiently into your refrigerator. Like that soup you made this afternoon and don't want to wait for it to cool to place it in the frig! Beware, that hot soup just changed the temperature of the items around it in the frig.

Why do you think they no longer make egg holders in the doors of refrigerators. Because opening and closing the frig changes the temperature of the eggs each time!

I know I am lecturing but food borne illness is a big problem! Please also do not place your mayo in the door of the frig!!

If I'm not mistaken a way to check your eggs if their good or bad is to fill a cup with water then drop the egg in it and if it sinks it's good and if it floats it's not...at least that's what I was taught by someone I knew worked at a egg farm

This is all very interesting, Ann about the food temps. So, I keep my eggs in the fridge, but when going to bake something, I take out what I need to bring them to room temp first before proceeding with my baking. That is alright, isn't it?

Good evening all! I'm just popping in for a minute! Thank you for all the birthday wishes and cards! I'm looking forward to getting back to crafting and chatting this next week. I had a fantastic weekend with my daughter. I'm glad we're done painting on the mural...5 days of painting is enough for me, but it was wonderful having my DD help! Here are some pictures of the wall mural:

That looks great, Gracie! What a fun thing to do and glad you could have fun doing it with your daughter.

Ann, thanks for the info. I appreciate the food safety information...

I find that I am rather grumpy today about everything, I need an attitude adjustment!

Thanks Catherine and Kathy!
So sorry about all the hassle with your power outage Catherine, and losing food in the refrigerator. I'm so glad we were able to borrow my brother's generator last summer. My DH said he's going to have to buy a generator one of these days! Hugs

I keep saying the same thing, we need to buy a generator just in case!

Shirl, when I bake I set a timer for my eggs for just an hour before baking!

Did you know that if you nuke your butter, you change the consistency of it for making frosting?

Gracie, that is one gorgeous wall!! Did you draw out the animals first? They are all so wonderful!!

Yes, I've done that before with the butter and the microwave. I don't like how it changes it for making frosting.

I just finished my I card but don't know if I can get a good photo as it is dark. I'll probably wait until tomorrow.

Kathy, when I was at DD2's house sitting job this morning feeding the dogs for her, I spent some time with the dogs and watched a little HG TV. A Walking Dead commercial came on and I thought of you!

The new season started last week! I just watched the second episode. I like that each week they run last weeks episode before running the new episode, then they run a show called Talking Dead, which features two or three people from the show and they discuss what happened this week. Then they run the new episode a couple more times throughout the night, so if I missed it, I can still see it later if I stay awake that late! Tonights was a little gorier than I like, but I just turn my head. I think I'm intrigued by the virus part of it.

I was working at my craft desk which faces the backyard so was oblivious to what was happening out front. Honey was wanting attention so I turned around to see flashing lights reflected on my curtains. My neighbor across the street was being taken by ambulance to the hospital. Please pray for Russell, I learned from my next door neighbor that he has cancer.

Good morning! Extra crazy, rushed morning today as I had extra tasks to accomplish. I needed to pick up DD2 and run her to school (DH gets home tonight) and then I cleaned out the refrigerator. I realized that I needed to put it off until this morning as trash pick up is today. I didn't want to put it out last night to tempt bears and I certainly didn't want it stinking up the house! Cleaning out the refrigerator is overstating what I did, though. I removed the spoiled food and put a dish of baking soda inside but I'll have to actually clean it when I get home from work.

I did sneak in a few minutes to upload my I card and now I'm late for work! Oops!

I learned something new today! Bubble paper is paper you make using bubbles! LOL. What a cool technique! Thanks Catherine! I'm going to try it later. I had a bit of trouble understanding her because of her accent, but with pictures, I think I can get it! She used liquid watercolors. I don't have that, but I'm wondering if reinkers will work?

Great wall mural, Gracie. I see a lot of talent.

Catherine, butter can be left out for an extended amount of time and it is fine. My mom always kept a dish in the cupboard. So does my sister and I keep one out when I have fresh bread.

Kathy, I used Pacific Point re-inker to make my bubble paper. I think you just need to use darker colors because it is light on the paper. I do have liquid watercolors but used re-inker because DH was working where I couldn't get to them without bothering him but I could get to the re-inkers!

I just uploaded a fun card using some of my Concord & 9th prize from DTGD:

Fairy Birthday Wishes

What paper did you use? I tried it on watercolor paper, but didn't like the results.

I used some thin, cheap watercolor paper.

Funny video Kathy!
Catherine, how did things turn out for your neighbor? I'll send up a prayer.
I'll have to check out the bubble paper technique tomorrow. I was gone all day today. Staying home finally tomorrow. Hoping to get in some card making time! Laundry too!

Jayne, I'm the short one in the red shirt. The tall person is my daughter. My sons are both 6 feet tall. I'm the runt of the family at 5' 2". LOL

Thank you all for the nice comments on the mural.

Ann, we had photos of Arizona wildlife taken by photography students in Payson. So we picked a photo and drew the image on the wall with chalk and then painted them. It was very challenging since it was a corrugated metal wall...straight lines are not straight! LOL I met some new ladies and had fun doing it though I was exhausted every night. Not as young as I used to be. LOL

Shelly hope you had a good flight and are now holding that baby! Enjoy!

I'm going to check out the gallery and then head to bed. Goodnight all!
