Good morning all!

My aunt had to be hospitalized with shingles. She said to her son, when he went to see her- "I can't stand the pain" and she died.

Ann, so glad your eyesight was alright. Our neighbour had it too where you had it. He was okay, but it is certainly scary about your eyesight possibly being affected.

That is good the vaccine has improved. I had asked about it years ago, but my dr. at the time didn't think it was a good idea (maybe because it was not as effective). So, maybe time to ask about this again.

Melody, sorry to hear about your sister and her memory loss.

Catherine our friends are in Disneyland right now. Supposed to hit 33 today. 33 celsius is getting high.

It rained the whole day yesterday. We got invited to go to a friends last night for homemade beef and barley soup. And he gave us some to take home. Slurp, it was good!

Off to Costco today! Sun was out but now it is cloudy, but I think not going to be rainy!

Hello all, wow, I've missed so much chatter!

I was gone all day yesterday: crafts, mahjong and dinner at neighbors! I was too exhausted when I got home to even check in. I'm still recovering from 3 weeks of that chest cold. I'm so much better but tire easily...I actually slept 11 hours last night! Unbelievable!

Melody, so sorry to hear about your dear sister. My father passed away several years ago with Alzheimers. It is such an awful disease and so very hard on the family. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Kandie, I sure hope those headaches go away! I have severe sleep apnea and since I've had my CPAP machine for 3 years, I have way fewer headaches and sinus infections. I've also cut back on sugars which helps keep away headaches. I LOVE chocolate, but have learned to limit myself. Great sign!

Ann, I'm wondering if I should get shingles shot. Does Medicare cover the cost I wonder, I heard it's very expensive. I had shingles when I was 54, working as a Reading Specialist and Title I Coordinator. I had way too much work and they did hire two people to replace me when I quit! My shingles went down my spine and up around my rib cage. I thought I had broken ribs for 2 months! I finally went to Dr. and she looked at my back and said I had shingles but it was too late for antibiotics. I suffered for 6 months and now have nerve damage down my spine, tingling and that "crawling bug" feeling. I thought you couldn't get shingles again??

Nope you can get shingles any number of times! So yucky!! My spouses grandmother used to get flare ups of them often in her life.

The shot now is improved the earlier one was only 65% effective.

Gracie, I would say go get the shot!! You never want to get them again! Is there a CVS pharmacy near you? Just call and get on their list if they don't have it in stock.

Medicare only covers the shot if you have prescription drug coverage. It's not covered under Part A or B plans. I find that stupid since it's seniors it is effecting so much!

I was in my late 50's when I got them!

Thanks Ann, I don't have any prescriptions so I don't have prescription coverage. I'll have to check out price and see if they have any discounts. Thanks for the information.

I'm still numb from Novocaine. It always takes hours for it to wear off. Had bad news I wasn't expecting and had to make a decision. One tooth he was going to crown had decay below the gum line and there isn't enough tooth to crown it. So he did one crown prep and filled the one on the other side. He ran out of time so I am having the one he can't crown pulled. I gagged at one point, which I usually don't, but he sat me up and said lean forward and it helped. He was holding a mold in my mouth. He sealed the tooth that will be pulled at next appt so nothing can get to it. He recommends an implant, but that's not happening this year. Only good thing, besides peace at times, was I'm getting a lot of money back. My heart palpitated at times but there was this one time that I felt peace come over me.

My insurance is blue cross and they will pay it under the medical part, not the prescription. I wonder if one of those prescription cards would help you?

Well, that was fun...no, really just inconvenient. I was on my way to pick up DD2 when DD1 called me. She had a flat tire. She was on her way to class to take her test and the tire went flat. So I went to where she was, she took my car to pick up DD2 while I called AAA for roadside service. Sometimes they take up to an hour so wanted to get in the queue. So happy that they only took about 15 minutes to get to us, amazing response. As a matter of fact, the girls followed them in. They put the "donut" on and we went straight to a tire place, Les Schwab. I don't know if you have Les Schwab where you are, they are wonderful. They repaired the tire for free and got her back on the road. Unfortunately, she missed the test.

Melody, that is hard with your sister. My mom, who lost her short term memory because of a stroke, would say to me, "I always thought when you lost your mind, you didn't know and you would be happy. But I know and I don't like it."

Shirl, one year we went to Disney in October. I was home schooling the girls at that point so we chose October for two reasons - people were back in school and it would be cooler. We struck out on both points. Southern California was having a heat wave during our visit and Southern California schools were having a fall week off so it was hot and crowded! Besides which they had special early closing days for a special Halloween party that required a different admission fee. We weren't happy campers!

Gracie, yay, so glad to hear you are feeling better! You'll get your energy back, I'm sure. Besides fighting the cold you did make a long trip all by yourself too.

Kathy, I really dislike getting molds made. I can't remember which one I dislike more, the upper or the lower. Glad you had peace, sorry you need an implant.

Hi Catherine! Glad things worked out with the tire, but too bad she had to miss her test. It's always something!

Ann, hope you feel better tomorrow. I read the side effects of that shot and they include soreness, chills and aching. I found a coupon for the shot but it would still be $165. I may get it when I get my flu shot, but I don't want to do it this week because I'm going to Phoenix to visit my daughter on Thursday. I hope you're able to rest well tonight!

Kathy, what a bummer about your tooth! I have a bridge for a tooth where I had a root canal that was "compromised", in other words...they drilled too far and had to pull my tooth. They wanted to put in an implant but I didn't want them messing so close to my sinuses.

[QUOTE=annsforte3;21869125]Morning!

Jayne, sorry you lost at golf! Is there a reason you like the orange ball instead of white? Or is it just so you know it is yours?

Hi Ann, it's so I know which is mine LOL.... I started playing with a white one and nearly hit someone else's even though we all mark them, so I decided to switch to orange and love them. At least I can find it when it goes into the bush LOL

My mum used to say a lick and a polish and I now say it. Was she raised in the UK or had ancestors from the UK?

I hope that your arm is ok now and you are feeling better. The Dr thought I had shingles earlier this year as I felt as though something were crawling under my skin on my chin from ear to ear. I stopped using a particular face cream and after a few weeks it went. It also felt as though it were burning. I had lots of tests and nothing showed...very strange. We are offered shingles jabs from 65...only a couple more years to go...yay.

Happy Wednesday

Congrats, Jayne, on your son moving out. Do I understand from your comments that you are looking to move after you get things sorted out there?

Thanks Catherine....I know it may sound harsh to some but we do feel we have done enough for him and he would just keep staying with us for a few more years I think.

No we won't move although I did suggest to hubby we look at retirement villages but he says he's not ready and I'm not really....for one I wouldn't have a craft room LOL. The kids also say we can't move into one yet as we are too young LOL. We will stay here. What we do intend to do over the next few weeks is spring clean every room and declutter. Stuff is overwhelming me including in my craft room.

So sorry that your DD missed her test. Have you started painting yet?

Melody so sorry to hear of your sister but glad that you get time with her and craft.

Kathy, ugh dentists....I do not like them taking moulds either and I hyper-ventilate. I find now if I do visualisation on something whilst in the chair it helps...I either visualise making a card/page or playing golf LOL... I never used to be nervous when going to dentists. I hope all goes well at your next appointment.

I couldn't believe a man aged 89 was trying to steal something...whatever next.

It's been a busy week really on and off, plus yesterday I suddenly lost my vision...it happens from time to time and I have to lie down until it passes...not sure what is causing it but it's scary at the time. Today I had a lot of running around to do including an airport run to help son1/dil1 one.

I also facetimed sis Vicki...just audio this time...but was such fun. She sounds very American LOL. Funny that I felt as though I had known her for years.

I may not been online as much....depends on how much time I have left each day after jobs. We have our big spring clean coming up once son3 has finally moved out plus a lot of decluttering. We have also been putting off clearing out our garage for over 7 years since we moved in. We still have boxes in there unpacked...eek...they will be going.

I will pop on when I can.

Sorry if I have missed some chat but wanted to say hi to everyone.

Has anyone heard from Sharon? Hope that she's ok. Not sure if she was going to a scrap retreat.

Have fun.

Jayne it sounds like a migraine. Sometimes you can get other migraine symptoms without the pain.

Running by quickly. Babysitting half a day.

Good morning, so much chatter to comment on!

Day 4 no afternoon nap yesterday, no major headache today except for a bit around the sinuses and my nose is plugged up. I looked up napping and morning headaches and found so much information about stuff that causes morning headaches (including one actually called morning headaches, lol) that I couldn’t begin to list it all. Something about the length of the nap. Naps under an hour are best. Since I was very young it has always taken me more than an hour to fall asleep at night, my brain works on stuff, my doctor said. Shoot, when an afternoon nap is supposed to end, I haven’t fallen asleep yet! So I finally sleep too deeply, that messes up my night sleep, and wallah, morning headache. Sleep apnea (HAVE to get in and get that test done), grinding teeth, getting up constantly to go to the bathroom, blah, blah, blah, lol, so many causes could problem.

Melody, I’m so sorry about and for your sister. She must get so aggravated with her own symptoms. You are marvelous to be so understanding, bless you.

Ann, yes and yes on the chills and muscle aches. I did have the flu and pneumonia shots at the same time, but I think it was the shingles shot that caused the most issues. Can you take Advil or something for the aches and chills?

DH got a flu shot Monday and I think it weakened his immune system enough to let a cold germ to get in, because he now has a terrible cold. He’s walking around with a box of Kleenex in his arms because he’s so miserable. He’s supposed to go on a four-day fishing trip leaving Sunday so I hope he gets better quickly.

Catherine, your heat must be going across the US at an angle. We are supposed to have 80s and 90s next week!

And how are your daughters today?

Gracie, did you have the overnight sleep apnea test? What is it about?

I got my shot at Walmart. Very nice pharmacist, don’t have to call ahead. My copay was $47, and he said the cost without insurance was near $200, if I remember right.

Good morning! Today should be the last day of heat and then it is cooling again, thankfully. Of course, yesterday and today (the two hottest days) are the days that our parking lot is being resurfaced so I have a hike to get to work. It figures!

Yay! NCIS is back!

DD1 is better today, DD2 is worse. She told me she'd probably call me to take her to work today but she is going to try to stay at school. Poor thing, she is past ready for this cold to be gone.

Jayne, I'm right there with you needing to declutter and eliminate stuff. You would think we would have done that when we moved but we didn't have time as it was a rush, rush move. Even so, I did get rid of stuff rapidly when packing. Even so, we have a garage full of boxes that, mostly, haven't been touched in the year we've lived here.

Kathy, have fun babysitting!

Kandie, indeed, trying to determine what is the cause of the headache is an incredible challenge. With my DH, we wonder if it is the things on your list plus his traumatic brain injury. So many options. With him, I do know it isn't an afternoon nap because he doesn't have time for that.

Last night, DH installed a new box in DD1's ceiling to support her fan and got it installed. He now thinks he needs to get a similar box and re-install DD2's ceiling fan. As for painting the deck (he calls it staining, whatever!). I need to get started on it, perhaps this afternoon.

Morning!

I had a night of chills and a slight fever, and then was hot as could be, plus headaches.

Woke up with headache gone and so are the chills, feeling much better but my arm is still very sore. I wonder what this means for the second shot or if I should take it? Going to have to ask the doctor.

Catherine, yes, I remember those days with my sons in college of no make ups!! One time son number four could not find a parking place so he missed his test! Parking was always an issue for them at UW-Milwaukee.

Jayne, happy cleaning!! I still need to get through some areas of the house, mainly my spouses!! Plus I want to sell off lots of my Christmas houses. They are the large ones and I just do not have room to set them up!! I will keep a few but they just need to go along with some old Christmas stuff too!

It's my spouse, he is a saver!! Always the line, but it will be worth something some day, or I'll find a use for it!! Nope don't want all that junk!!

Kandie, glad you are doing better without the naps!

Off to get moving on some cards and maybe make some stuffed peppers! My brother gave me 6 large green peppers. Yum!!

Catherine, I forgot about your DH’s TBI, as well as mine too. Always a chance that contributes. There were huge horses pulling carriages everywhere on Mackinaw Island, no cars allowed, only bikes and carriages. I love horses but stayed completely away from them. Brings back memories of flying through the air!

Ann, stuffed green peppers?! I mentioned that dish to DH just last week! Love, love them.

I hate when they do that...it's so unfair. College rules are so ridiculous sometimes! They punish the good students because of some irresponsible ones!

Kandie, yes, I had an overnight sleep apnea test 3 years ago. They have a room with a bed and tv, set up like a real home atmosphere. They put this sticky gunk all over your head and attach "electrode" thingys to your head and legs. Then with all these wires coming out of your body, you are suppose to lay on your back, relax and go to sleep! LOL

I watched TV and read a book and finally fell asleep. Shortly after I fell asleep, the technician came in and hooked me up to a sleep apnea machine. I have severe sleep apnea and quit breathing almost immediately when I fell asleep. So, needless to say, I use my sleep apnea machine every night. My sinuses infections decreased and I was not so tired during the day. It definitely has helped me.

The Dr. said a lot of sleep apnea is caused by being overweight, but mine is because of my anatomy. It was actually the anesthesiologist that detected a problem when I had a colonoscopy. My family always said I snored like a freight train! LOL

Hope, you can discover what's triggering your nasty headaches!

It may not even be fifteen minutes! And the town where I pick up prescriptions when I need them. I wanted to stop but I had my food warm in the car. But mom says she may want to go to that town today yet so I may still get there!

Have fun shopping Kathy! Dollar Tree is the store where everything really is a $1, right?

Yes, everything is a dollar. Sometimes that's a great bargain and sometimes not. I just use my head before I buy. Something I may get at Walmart for 88 cents isn't a bargain but if I need something for crafting, it will be nice for a quick trip there.

You will love $ tree, Kathy for cheap snacks! LOL. But you are right, something might be cheaper than a dollar at Walmart. Like, baby wipes! I found that out. But I have found good deals there, like mailers. Padded envelopes. Don’t get the toilet brush though. Only a dollar, it cost me a plumbing bill, when the brush came off and went down! That happened several years ago! LOL

I bought hand towels. I don't like dish towels because a lot of them are like microfiber and don't dry dishes well. Their dollar hand towels soak up the water much better. I buy brooms there.I also bought some wet floor towels for my swiffer and some dry ones. And a bag of Reese's peanut butter cup miniatures!

You ladies crack me up...thank you! Laughter is a good thing!

Ann, sorry you had such a bad night, glad the headache and chills were gone this morning.

How frustrating to miss a test due to lack of parking!

My DH would tell you that I am the saver and he tosses things...yeah, right. If he wants to believe that, I won't argue...aloud, just in my head! I don't argue that I have a hard time parting with things. That is because I tend to hang onto it just until the week before I actually need it!

Kandie, I love horses too...with a fence between me and them! I've had too many bad experiences - bucked off, run over, had one lay down in the creek that we were crossing. I'm afraid of them and they know it.

I believe that a lot of DH's headaches are due to his TBI but have no proof of that.

Gracie, I don't remember encountering situations where I couldn't make up a test. Maybe I didn't miss any tests? I don't know, college was a few years ago now.

Kathy, I don't know anything about Family Dollar but we have a Dollar General close by where we live now. I went in thinking it was like the Dollar Tree. Um, no! There were all sorts of prices in there, shocked me. There are some things in Dollar Tree that are less than a dollar, at least here. I think the candy bars are less than a dollar. That said, I know if I want a roll of crepe paper streamers, they are less expensive at Walmart. If i'm buying gift bags, I like to get them at Dollar Tree though.

Gracie, is there much good Mexican food in Wisconsin?

Sharon, thanks for the tip about padded mailing envelopes. I don't think I've looked for them at Dollar Tree.

Kathy, when you say hand towels do you mean like what you would normally use in the bathroom?

Aloha, Vickster! Yes, I'm bummed but not like I would be if I was going and couldn't connect with you because our trip was too short!

Kathy, did you find out if the reverse transistor modules are on back order? When are they expect in? LOL
