Glad you enjoyed a good dinner, Kathy. I agree with Kandie, when my tastebuds are set for something and then it doesn't happen, I get disappointed!

Sweet dreams, Kandie!

I'm still trying to summon the enthusiasm to finish the panels I was making for last week's mix challenge.

Yum yum, Kathy, I love their coleslaw as well!!

Kandie, gorgeous stuff you got today!!

Gracie, happy vacation!!

Hi Catherine!

Made a big dinner tonight so I'm tired plus cleaning up my office and rearranging stuff.

Getting a different desk with no keyboard pull out tray. My arthritis is acting up in my left hand so making some changes to help. Getting a roll ball instead of the standard mouse and will not have to go back to voicing my typing since pain is getting too much in my left thumb.

So lots to do with cleaning up stuff, still need to purge genealogy records, did I think four binders last time and haven't gotten back to it. Suppose to be my winter project again.

Later everyone!! Sleep well!

Went to bed about 9:30 because I was tired but the hip pain woke me so I gave up and took pain meds. Killing time while it kicks in. I don't know what more I can do. The daytime pain has eased lots but laying down at night is when it hits.

I'm sorry, Kathy. I hope your pain meds have taken effect already. It could be that after several weeks of exercise, you'll do better at night time as well.

I was getting my steps in back in my bedroom. When I hit my target, I came out to the living room where everyone else was, only to find all of them - DH, DD1, DD2, and Honey all asleep! I took photos!

Catherine, good for you getting your steps in, and how sweet that all four were asleep when you were done. Obviously, you were the only one with any energy!

Ann, what is a roller mouse?

Good morning, ladies.

Morning!

Kandie, it has a little ball on the top to use to navigate on a page instead of clicking.
My arthritis in the left hand is getting too painful so I am trying something else. The locking joint in the thumb is driving me nuts!

Was my right hand middle finger and ring finger but with retiring from all the pipping of cake decorations it has gotten better.

Kathy, so sorry you were in pain last night! Hoping the meds helped and you were able to sleep.

Hello, to everyone else!!

I'm cleaning making way for my new table desk and out with this old one, I think I may miss the hutch it has though! But it's just dust.

Hi everyone! Wow, it is quiet on here today. We are enjoying a lovely day here in Northern California, rain is expected tomorrow. Right now, DD2 is sadly contemplating life when DD1 has gone away to college. She is sad, poor girl.

Kandie - it wasn't very late in the day when I came out and found them all sleeping. It was the girls first week back at school after two weeks off which I think is why they were tired and DH said it was stressful week at work for him. And Honey? Well, she sleeps most of the time anyway.

Those reading glasses are so cute!

Ann - I'm sure you are already ready for the new desk as organized as you are!

What is everyone up to today?

I cleaned out the burning barrel. Then promptly burned my thumb. My sisters both burn their trash in it, however neither of them know how to sort out stuff that won't burn. There were glass bottles, steel lids, wires, etc. If I didn't clean it out it fills up and then there's no way to burn paper. The good news is that my sister brought her trash out and said she and her hubby were trying to guess who was out there cleaning it out. They both thought it was my niece because I moved like a spring chicken! LOL guess the pt is working!

Okay, I have opened two tabs, so I can go back and forth to comment.

Thanks Kandie for the wishes! And we are still mixed up in our days, I guess because of the holidays. The only reason I knew it was Thursday and the 10th was because if was my birthday, lol.

Melody, I know what you mean-I have to make myself when I'd rather not get out there.......I am able to do 15 mins right now with my heel problem......2 days in a row! I fall off the routine if it is bucketing down rain though.

Sharon, sorry about the funeral.

Gracie: Bon Voyage! Enjoy Maui, you lucky ducky!

Kathy, I love lazy days! Sorry for the hip pain. No use fighting it, just take the pain meds. I hope they helped!

Catherine, is this a real wood fireplace you are talking about? I made two cards, that is what I got up to today!

Ooh, Ann, we want to see pictures if possible of your new desk!

Linda, still praying for you.

Not much chatting today. Good evening. I did one load of laundry this morning and then went to my lace guild for the afternoon. They had the gas fireplace on in the room adjacent to where we usually meet, so we sat in there instead, but the library closes at 2:00, so they had to turn it off. We are there until 4:00, but the library staff leaves, so they couldn't leave it on.

Kathy - yay to the spring chicken comment! The PT must be helping.

Shirl - yes, it is a real wood burning stove and is, primarily, how we heat. This house does have central heat and A/C (which many homes up in these hills do not have, my brother doesn't, for instance) but if we can heat with wood, our heat is free as all of the wood we have we have gotten for free. Just sweat equity. I grew up with wood heat and love it and my wood/fire knowledge is returning.Although this wood stove is built differently so both DH and I have had to learn different methods of fire building!

Ann - I'll echo Shirl's request for a photo of your new desk. Show and tell when you have a chance!

Melody - lace guild? I know you've mentioned it before but please refresh my memory. Are you making lace at the lace guild? If so, how cool!

I love a real wood burning fire.......We taped the Holiday Log though before they took it off and so we love playing that with the crackling fire sound in the background of it. (It is much better than watching the news in the morning)

The sounds are so calming. I found a website with white noise that lulls you to sleep. I like the sound of rain on a roof, or a blistery winter storm!

That fire video is even better because, with a wood stove, you don't get to see the beautiful flames. However, it is a much more efficient way to heat than a fireplace.

I do not have any devices unfortunately to lull me to sleep.....I do have a fan for white noise, and ear plugs to block out a certain someone snoring....I do love the sound of rain though if I had your tablet. Is that what you use?

Yes, I use my tablet. Mostly when DH is at the cabin. Brad McBride has some good ones!

Thanks for the link.......

Did I tell you that I love the crackling fire sound so much, that my dh recorded it for me on a c.d. to play in my walkman.....Puts me right out.

Some c.d.s that say they are calming, but half way through, one hears some strange animal sounds,,,,,,like whales, wolves or something like that. And it totally disrupts my state of mind......

And now we are home from getting ice cream to celebrate how well DD1 did with her driving today. Yum, tasty! We tried a new place in the little town that we are closest too.

Shirl there are some white noises that make me nervous and do not relax me. I pick and choose the sounds I like. Rain and thunder are soothing to me, but I did not like the fan sound one. Oh, I love the chirping crickets one and nighttime peepers!

Good morning, good morning.

Ann, thanks for the tip on the roller ball mouse! Sometimes my fingers cramp up from using mine so much.

Kathy, did you rest last night? I’m hoping your hip pain wasn’t bad enough to keep you awake.

Catherine, I’m an only child, so I don’t know the bond between sisters, however, I believe it to be like best friends, used to seeing each other constantly, and now one is moving away. Hopefully your DD1 will keep in touch. Do the girls have FaceTime?

Melody, you should post some photos of your gorgeous lace projects. . I have my lovely bookmark right here where I can constantly enjoy its beauty.

I have the aches again today myself. Yesterday woke with such severe rib ache it was hard to breathe, but some Advil and time eased it quite a bit. DH hung a clock over the TV for me, one big enough we both could see the numbers, of course. I did my usual chores and he went to the store. Then we watched our Colts play abysmally in the playoffs and blow their chances of making it to the Super Bowl. I wanted to make some cards, but the dining room table area by the windows was so very cold, even with double-pane glass and insulation around the windows. DH explained that the basement room under the dining room isn’t heated because it’s a storage room. No wonder the dining room floor is so cold. So, under the quilt with a good book!!

Good morning, ladies.

Catherine, lace guild probably originated as all bobbin lacers (lace makers), but our group has dwindled over the years. Most of the ladies in our group are older; some have died or moved away. Younger women tend to have less free time with family obligations, but then sometimes the older women don't want to travel any distance, right?

Anyway, bobbin lace is a type of weaving, done on a firm pillow with thread (usually) that is wound onto bobbins, which are basically weighted to keep the threads taut while working. You use a pattern which is pinned underneath your work, and as you work, you pin the threads in place. When you are finished, you remove the pins and the piece pretty much retains its shape.

I make bobbin lace, although it's been many months since I've worked on any. I also know how to tat a bit, I do a lot of thread crochet, and also have done some needle lace (Romanian Point Lace). There are many different styles of bobbin lace and needle lace. Each type of bobbin lace usually has its origins in a specific locality.

Here are a couple of photos of some of mine. Please ignore the dust on my pillows (yikes!).

Melody, that's beautiful! I'm not sure I'd have the patience!

Well, Mrs. Fix it is at it again. I'm so sick of cleaning my washer hose inlet screen. We have hard water and it gets sediment in it and clogs the screens, which slows the water as it comes into the washer and takes forever for it to fill. So I'm just going to replace the screens. Need to see if I can find screens at Walmart. I think I'll be going down Tuesday. I may just replace the hoses too. I can't remember if we replaced them when I bought the last washer.

Good morning! It is another sunny day in Northern California, thankfully, because DH needs to split some wood to keep us warm.

Kathy - I did the Youtube video you linked and then I did the New Year's Walk challenge week one video. That got the blood pumping and me "glistening." Actually, I don't glisten, I sweat. Good workout.

Good luck in your search for washer parts.

Kandie - technically I am not an only child but my two older brothers are so much older than me that it is like my parents had three only child families. That said, they are both older brothers. I have a half sister that is decades older than me as my dad had two children from his first marriage. His oldest, my half brother, was 9 days younger than my MIL. He passed away a couple of years ago. All that to say, I don't know the close connection of sisters either. Even if they are close in age though, there is no guarantee that they'll be close so I'm happy our girls are close and love each other. It won't be until next school year that DD1 begins college, DD2 is just dreading her departure.

Melody - your lace is beautiful! (What dust? I don't see any dust!) That is such fine detail work and gorgeous. I like the color of your pillow too.

Thank you, Kathy and Catherine. The pillows are made from a very dense foam kinda like pool noodles. I've actually made extra rollers from pool noodles. They have to be covered in fabric and I like blue.

When I'm working on lace consistently, and haven't forgotten how to do stuff, a bookmark takes around 8 hours to complete. I normally use size 30 crochet cotton, but some ladies use size 70 or 100, which is very very fine. As a comparison, sewing thread is usually size 50. The higher the number, the finer the thread. I really should pull out my lace and work on it.

Sisters... I just talked to mine for first time since Christmas. I called her to tell her about Mom’ s friend that died. We are not close at all. She is seven years younger than me.

We talk maybe once every couple of months. We just have nothing in common. The most I talked to her is when my Mom was so ill before she passed way. I tried to keep her posted on Mom’s condition, as mom was here and sis lives about 400 miles away. Even then we didn’t communicate much. I always wanted to be closer. I guess now we do have more in common as we both are getting old. So old age is what we have in common! LOL

Sharon - is your sister younger or older than you? Seven years is the age difference between my closest brother and I. He also happens to live about 3 miles away. We do see him and his wife a bit more now that we've moved up the hill. Until then we pretty much only saw them a couple of times a year. Then my other brother is 13 years older than me. I don't even remember him living in the same home as me, though we did all three live there for a few years.

She is younger. I went away to college when she was just 11. . When I got married , she was only 14. And we moved to a different state. So really didn’t live with her after she was 11. It was like she was an only child after that, like I was an only child till I was 7!
