I was pleased to hear that you all wished for this thread to continue, and hopefully ladies who have left this group will rejoin us in 2024, and we will also have some new people join in.
WELCOME TO THE MMJ 2024 CHALLENGES -NO CHAT PLEASE
If you like texture, mixed media and fun, then you are in the right place. Our challenges aren't intended to take away from what's on this wonderful site, but to give you further inspiration or maybe for those times when you are craving more mixed media; something different or weird, or need an extra crafty fix.
HOW DOES IT WORK.....Each month there will be a new challenge. It may be prompts, a video or perhaps a photograph to give you inspiration for your project. Your project can be whatever you wish....a card, scrapbook page, art journal page, tag, ATC, junk journal page, collage, etc. If you wish to combine an MMJ challenge with another challenge, even better. We would just like to see more people join in. The most important thing is to CREATE and to do something that makes you smile!

Monthly: MMJ Challenge….get inky and have fun
Hi Everyone, I hope that you all had an enjoyable Xmas and are ready for another New Year and more MMJ Challenges.
Here is the January 2024 Challenge, early.
Use 3 or more of the following prompts:
* Water
* A die cut
* At least 3 colours
* A stamped image
* Something strange which shouldn't be in your "scene" or project
Technique: Choose a favourite video/artist and copy the main technique they use. For example: Think Tim Holtz or someone you follow on You Tube, or perhaps choose a tutorial on SCS. Some of you (aka moi) may have classes which you have never tried. Perhaps in 2024 you can give them a go.
When posting your project please say whose technique you chose.
KEYWORD: MMJ124
As always, have fun, and if you don't fancy any of the above, just play and post your project.
Happy 2024. May the year shine brightly for you all.

Thursday: Ways To Use It Challenge
Monthly: MMJ Challenge….get inky and have fun
Hello everyone, how can it be April? When I think of April I think of April showers although where I live now April is a beautiful time of the year and usually there’s no rain. I also think of April Fools Day and still try and catch my hubby out. It’s also the month where in Oz we celebrate ANZAC day. Usually it’s also Easter celebrations but this year Easter is early.
So, for my challenge use 3 or more of the following:
*. Something relating to rain or a rainy BG
*. Include a fun or joke sentiment
* Book or dictionary paper
* At least one warm colour
* Splatters
Technique: Die cut or Fussy cut and add an image but create depth by layering at least 3 of the same image
Plus if you live in Oz add something relating to Anzac Day (not compulsory).
I look forward to seeing what you all create. The main thing is to just have fun and make sure you get inky.
Happy Easter weekend. Hugs

Hi everyone, pinch, punch, it’s first of the month. It’s also May. When I think of May I think of summer coming when I lived in the UK, of flowers starting to sprout and of May fairs and May poles. People smiling more as the weather improves lol. Where I live now May is a reminder that winter is on its way and the rains and winds are coming. There are less people out in the parks and people rug up more.
So for our May challeng, use 3 or more of the following:
*. A face or a smile
*. Spring or summer flowers
*. Sunny bright colours
* Lines any direction
* Something which makes you think of May
Use any technique and if you want to add some texture, add fabric, buttons, lace. Do your thing.
Have fun and enjoy creating. Happy May.

Thanks Jean regarding the April keyword. I’m not cooking with gas these days 🙄🫣😂

blue or turquoise
fabric, lace, or both
something relating to tea (examples: tea dyed paper, tea splatters, tea bags or tags, tea cup image or die cut, sentiment about tea, etc.)
acrylic paint
corrugated cardboard
a grid
Suggested technique: use real or faux leather.
One of the easiest ways to create faux leather is to use brown paper bag. Crumple it up; flatten; repeat -- as many times as needed to make your paper quite flexible. Add a few colors of ink, usually browns with perhaps some red or orange. Then spritz with water. Repeat as desired. Allow paper to dry completely. The thinly coat with matte medium, Mod Podge, or even white glue. Let dry. Add a 2nd coat if desired. If you start with white instead of brown, you can make your faux leather any color you want.
Well, I'm up for July, which snuck up on me....I did mark it on my calendar to think about it a week ago but did I do that? Nope. Did I even look at my calendar? Nope. So I'm winging it. Choose 3 or more...MMJ724
1) something to do with space: planets, rocket ships, aliens, whatever
2) playing card
3) upcycle something
4) a color you wouldn't normally use and maybe even dislike
5) a feather
6) a photograph
7) washi tape an envelope or pocket (won't let me type the number 8!)
Technique: anything you want to do, using two mediums

Already we are in October and time for a new challenge. I thought I would keep it simple this month and give you a few options. Hopefully it will motivate some of you to create. Unfortunately my mojo is totally gone this year and we are about to head off for a couple of weeks to celebrate my MIL's 90th so I doubt my stash will see the light and continue to collect dust bunnies
For this month on your project use 3 or more of the following:
*. A moon or stars
* A balloon
*. One dark and one light colour
* Something shiny
*. A quote or text
* An animal
* Washi tape
* Paper
* String
* A die cut
Use any technique you wish
Have fun.

Firstly, apologies everyone. I totally forgot about November and now it’s nearly over but not too late to post the challenge. Here it is:
For your project take a piece of cardstock, journal page or piece of cardboard and:
* Write on it. Write anything. Something positive; something which you need to write about and get out of your head. Just write. Don’t worry, you won’t see it later. Just get whatever comes into your head out onto your paper. You don’t need to write in straight lines. Go around your page and scribble. Try writing without taking your pen off the page.
* Now cover the text with black or white. You can use paint, pencils, crayons, paste, a stencil or stamp over it. Whatever you wish. If you want to leave some text showing that’s ok too.
* Take two of your favourite colours and paint stripes or circles on top.
* Now doodle on your page working around your circles or stripes. Either one of them or more.
* Add an image. Whatever crazy image comes into your head and if it doesn’t go with your work, that’s ok.
* Add some texture whether it be fabric, lace or an embellishment
* Add a quote and done.
Did that feel good? Does your work indicate your mood today? Does it make you smile?
If the above doesn’t appeal to you, just do one or more of the prompts. Remember to have fun.
Happy creating

It’s that time of the year again and I am posting the challenge early. Just in case I forget 🙄
Let’s get some sparkle and shine in the gallery. Using two or more of the prompts create something festive. Something which makes you smile and dazzles. Here is the challenge:
* Create a festive card, journal page, tag. Whatever you feel like doing right now.
* Stencil paste or Xmas colours onto your project. Non Xmas colours are good too.
* Cut out an image from an old Xmas card and paste onto your project. Highlight it with black pencil or pen.
* Add lots of shimmer, shine and make your card dazzle. Use bling, metallic paints, whatever you have.
* Add ribbon
* Add something else which either goes with your first image or something completely crazy and shouldn’t be there.
* Using text from a newspaper or magazine cut out your message. Use a message which is your wish to yourself or the recipient of your project
Remember to have fun.
Wishing you and your families a merry Xmas and may 2025 be a healthy, happy and peaceful one.
