Melody, I do the same as your dh. I make my list according to the layout of walmart. Ours is a super Walmart so it's quite big and going from the grocery side to the other side is hard enough doing it once let alone going back and forth. I start with the non-grocery side and usually start at cat food and work my way over.
Jean, I love those cat pictures. The kitty playing with the red toy reminds me of echo. That is a cat my son adopted when he lived at Mom's. The cat just stayed there when he moved. And with the tongue out like that, it reminds me of this picture I took of Dean.
Good morning! Busy and loud day here yesterday as they were here most of the day bringing trees down. So glad to have them down but sorry to see them go. And now, DD1 has a date as a result of it. The guy our neighbor and DH hired to bring the trees down had his sons along, the older one is similar in age to DD1 and, as they were leaving, he asked her for her number. The hitch is that he actually now lives in TN but he was out here for a while helping his dad. So, they are going out to dinner this evening. I just have to laugh.
We had a nice BBQ with my brother, SIL, and nephew.
Shirl, now I'm curious about this Anna story. I'll have to look it up.
I can only wish for gas to be 4.50 or so. CA gas taxes are crazy so ours is closer to 6 and over 7 in LA. (And with this extremely high gas taxes, our roads are still in bad shape.)
Linda, I hope things get sorted with your caregiver and the perfect one is found.
Melody, we use an app for our grocery list so that everyone can put things on it (and sometimes they even do!). When I make the list each week just before DD1 does the grocery run, I just make the list and then I drag things around to the order of our grocery store as best as I remember it. It just makes the run through the store more efficient! In Southern Cal, I had a paper list on the side of the fridge, and I had it in grids in the grocery store order there.
Ann, sorry about the start to your day. Praying it gets better as the day goes along!
I hope Gracie is having a lovely drive, she was starting back to WI today, right?
I forgot to say, adorable kitty photos! (I'll blame Wesley as she meowed loudly when I was typing so I went to see what she wanted.) Wesley isn't affected by catnip. We bought some for her when we first got her and she couldn't care less. Fortunately, my co-worker has cats so we gave it to her.
We have catnip growing in several spots. Jet likes some every once in a while. Dean liked it. I made him some tea with it when he started getting sick.
We have hummingbirds again. I'm thinking of buying another feeder. I sent mine all to the thrift store about 2 years ago because I figured with all the cats around we wouldn't see them but they're still coming around.
Catherine, I love the grid idea! I usually make my list and then rewrite it like you said in store order but a grid would be nice. I could make a large grid for one I have a lot of groceries and a half page grid on smaller orders and I can just use a small paper if I only have one or two things to pick up. Thanks for that idea!
Kathy-I'm scratching my head on the temperature issue. Why not install a cheap, programmable thermostat to keep your Dad comfortable? Honeywell has one for less than $22 on Amazon. It sure would be better than a trip to the emergency room and less trouble than two people handling him in the shower. Keeping a steady temp in the 70s won't chill him. Am I missing something here?
Jean - LOVE those kitty pics. Especially those orange cats. Years ago, I had a wonderful fat orange cat, Jeffrey. He was such a doll.
Melody - love the asparagus. Today is Senior discount day at the grocery. I better not miss my 5%-I'll need it to put a gallon into the car!
Teri, my dad is not mobile. He should be in a nursing home but we care for him at home. My niece and her husband put him in the shower once a week and mom just baths him in bed the rest. So it was just an early shower day, although niece says if he is hot again tonight they will shower him. We've been doing this for a year now. Mom does most of his care but my DH helps a lot as do I . DH and I get him out of bed each morning. DH and BIL put him down for a nap at noon. DH and DS2 (or me) get him up at 4. Then my niece and her hubby put him on the pot and to bed 4 nights a week. The other 3 nights DH and DS2 take over. So we plan all shopping trips around who is here to help. for instance tomorrow morning I'm doing a trip to Walmart for my mom DH has a breakfast set up with friends. So my sister and her husband will be home and available after we get Dad up. DH retired over a year ago, but hasn't really been able to do much yet. He squeezes in fishing at the ponds or lake in between getting dad up or down.
Kathy-you are giving lots of loving care to your dad. I'd say just one more reason to get a thermostat installed to give the caregivers one less thing to worry about when temps rise.
I need to get my mind back into crafting, I spent an hour upstairs yesterday and couldn’t concentrate, it’s was hot so I went for a swim, my AI piece is still sat there!
we did clean the windows , Steve has cleaned all the painting gear, he said that’s all the painting he’s doing seeing we were only painting one wall haha
Now he’s just said next week we are working on the top of the pool! It used to be sparkling white now it’s cream, we have some special paint and plastic coating to use, this retirement lark sure is fun!!
Steve took me out to the Chinese restaurant for lunch, I did my cleaning before we left, it was neglected while we’ve been painting, Not something I like to do.
it’s hot here 26c as we drove home.
I put my shopping list on my iPhone in the shop order that way I never leave the list n the kitchen table!
So much chatting! I missed so much just from a few days! I will try to remember some of it!
Kathy: ink pad for letterboxing. You will still need one to ink up their stamp to stamp in your book.
You and your family are angels to your Dad! Wonderful of you all.
ok, already forgot other comments. Katherine, I agree with you, when we are home safe at end of day, so thankful! I thank God those days I go across town for appointments and am safe at home at the end of the day. Driving for me in traffic is always scary. My DH always says now days you can’t even frown at someone it they turn in front of you- they might pull a gun out! Yuck!
ok, I want to be uplifting , not the other! LOL. Linda , I am praying for a new caregiver for you.
welcome , Ellen from Texas.
It poured here overnight. We needed it! Western part of the state needs it more , though. They are still in a drought.
I tried to organize my scrapbooking supplies yesterday. Does “too much” sound familiar! Why can’t I let go of some of it. My life would be so much simpler! Teri, I should just start making those books like crazy! LOL
Good morning! It is warming up here, so nice to have a cool weekend though. DD1 had a lovely time on her date last night and I stayed up way too late making my brad card.
Kathy, I'm glad you found the grid idea helpful. I'm all for efficiency when shopping which is why I like having the list in store order. Get in, get what I need, get out!
Melody, the sign about laundry is too funny.
Kathy, you and your family are so wonderful caring for your dad. That is a big commitment and such a blessing.
Jan, your villa is so lovely and it is because of all the work you do maintaining it. Enjoy your break before taking on the top of the pool.
Yay for open windows, Ann.
Sharon, after living in the LA area for 9 1/2 years, I don't make eye contact with other drivers unless I absolutely know who it is. At or former house, I had a neighbor pull all sorts of shenanigans trying to catch my eye when we were on the road. He did move forward a bit so I saw who it was out of the corner of my eye and turned and waved at him!
I wonder how Kandie is doing. She is in my thoughts and prayers.
Oops, must head out to work. Blessings to you all!
I did have an email from Kandie last week as she received my card,I think she’s most likely busy sorting out the house, so sad to think that Kandie and Ed were going to be making the move together just a few short weeks ago!
we have an appointment this morning to sort out our travel insurance! Fingers crossed, as it’s not looking good at the moment.
drivers here are idiots, they never look before pulling out of parking places, we were having a coffee yesterday and a car nearly hit one car, he reversed out without looking and after he let that one pass he did the same thing again!
Melody our son would agree with that sign too, he’s had his SIL and nephew living with them for ten months after her partner threw her out, he said every time he walks through the door the washing machine and dish washer are going, drives him nuts.
Just popping on before I upload my brad card.
Jean those cats…..it reminds me of our dear Karen when I read that someone had a lot of cats. She loved her fur babies. I love the first and third photo. I could adopt one of those in the first photo.
Catherine how lovely for DD1 to have a date. I remember being young lol
Shirl/Jan, we are watching Godless, a western series. It’s quite good.
Hope Gracie made it to WI safely.
Linda, I hope you find a good caretaker.
Kathy, you are a saint.
Melody, love the quote
I’ve forgotten the rest of the chat and have dinner to make soon. It’s 26 degrees here too. Perfect day today but lots of mozzies. I’m being eaten alive.

Jan, could you please explain about the travel insurance in your neck of the woods. When we travel, we can get travel insurance and it isn't a big deal. I took it out for my train trip to Holland, MI, $19.
Catherine, is your daughter still dating the other guy? Good to have those trees down, even though we surely need trees.
Glad you all enjoyed the kittie pics. Yes, Finn was loving the catnip. I find cats so entertaining and interesting. I never had one, my mother couldn't stand cats (she never had one that I know of, called them sneaky). Dogs are so much work, it seems to me. I'm flipping to the cat side in some ways.
Granddaughter Clare graduated from 5th grade yesterday. On to middle school. My daughter was pretty emotional. She has been feeling sad that Clare missed out on some in person schooling the past two years. Her teachers have been so fabulous.
Years ago, I was driving somewhere with my SIL (not my SIL at the time), I got honked at because I was too slow starting up, he passed me, I honked at him at the next light. He followed us the rest of the journey. Scary and stupid on my part. My sister now freaks out when she comes down to visit, she has already forgotten what it's like to drive in traffic. And she drove in that traffic for 35 years. Compared to other parts of the country, our traffic isn't that bad, but it's all we know.
Melody, I've seen that meme, it's a good one. For my daughter, it's clothing on the floor. When I took the girls shopping last week, I kept finding their brand new clothes on the floor, drove me crazy. My grands like to play pretend, with costumes, and within about 20 minutes, Clare had on five different outfits. And the other four were on the floor. They still take their coats off in the winter and drop them wherever they are. What????? if you comment, they'll pick them up but still....I guess they'll only learn when they're on their own (maybe). Liz already says that Clare's college roommates are not going to like her...she's a slob. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree as her Dad is kind of like that. Oblivious.
Kathy, that's worrisome about your Dad's temp. I thought older people were always cold.
Back home, Gracie?
We need rain...grass is starting to not look as green, even though we had so much in spring. It was supposed to rain on Sunday or Monday night, I think, I don't think we got any. I don't mind the heat as long as I know there is a respite coming. Humidity, I can do without.
My brother blew out the remaining duck egg that never hatched, I'm going to Zentangle on it, I think. It's not a pure white, doesn't smell, bonus! It isn't easy to Zentangle on a curved surface.
Getting my haircut today...I went five weeks this time because of traveling, never again. It's out of control.

Jean we don’t need travel insurance to travel anywhere in Spain, medical treatment is free but to go to San Francisco we have to have gold star cover for Steve as he had a triple bypass, also any meds for cholesterol etc have to be declared too, plus he’s 71, 70 is when it gets super expensive, it all adds to the cost, it’s going to be €1435 that’s for a year and covers us worldwide and for covid , a single trip was going to be nearly two thousand euros, we aren’t planning on going twice but maybe next year we will go early to get our monies worth.
he had his triple bypass in SF nearly eleven years ago and the insurance covered it, apparently it cost nearly two million dollars, he was in hospital for two weeks, the ambulance cost 1749 dollars for an eight minute ride, they rang me the day after for the money! One doctor who we never met sent his bill to Spain for over a thousand dollars, so we know we have to be covered.
Oh Jan, that is just terrible the cost for the insurance. But you have to have it when you travel!
The cost for my foot mishap will run me about $400 out of pocket! I think of everything else I could have spent that money on!! Stamps, paper, groceries, etc!! Fun how my secondary insurance has a deductible, paid on it every month now for two years and it has yet to kick in and start paying anything! Makes me so mad, insurance in the US stinks!!
Jean, hooray for a haircut! I keep mine long just so I don't have to go for haircuts and easy to put up when it's hot!
Jayne, so good to hear from you!! If I didn't tell you your card arrived for my birthday! Thank you!
Catherine, what happened to the young man that your daughter was dating? Didn't they have several dates? Or have I missed something?
Linda, thinking of you, and hoping your family finds a caregiver soon for you!
Gracie, are you in WI yet? Thinking of you today! At least Wisconsin weather is good for the next few days!
My foot is giving me grief! Still hurts when I try to move it certain directions. Weeds are growing like crazy and I'm afraid I will not be able to get up and down to pull them with my foot. Putting that pressure on the foot to stand hurts. Really a dumb thing I did to myself! LOL!
Enough about silly things, hope everyone has a good day!
Good morning! I have a girlie coming with me today as she is working on VBS stuff today since she is off work at Michaels.
Speaking of Michaels, I dropped by DD2's store yesterday on my way home and got a great deal on two shadow boxes. I only needed to do this 10 years ago. Better late than never, right? They are for the girls' first board breaks and the boards are in them and the shadow boxes given to the girls. Funny, DD2 said, "Looks great, where are you going to put it?" I told I didn't know where she was going to put it but it is hers! LOL
DD1 and the guy she was dating - yes, they had a number of dates - decided to just be friends....which really means that they don't interact any longer. He did send her a drunk test and she responded the next day but he hasn't replied to that.
Jan, I'm so glad you got your travel insurance sorted and done. That is a relief!
Backing out of parking spots, or pulling out of them without looking is a pet peeve of mine. Parking lots are such dangerous places. I wish people would realize they are driving a heavy death machine and that they should look BEFORE putting it in motion! OK, enough about that!
Jayne, such a lovely area where you are!
Jean, we still have lots of trees around, thankfully. But these trees were dangerous to our house so I am thankful they are gone.
Jean, when I was a teen I would come home and drop my coat on the end of the couch. I remember my mom saying "I can't wait till you grow up and I'll come visit you and drop my coat on the end of your couch!" LOL She didn't do it, though.
I had a very messy roommate in college but I didn't mind her mess because she kept it on her side of the room and I guess it didn't bother me because I didn't have to clean it up. The next year, for a short time, I had another messy roommate and she bothered me because her mess spread all over the room. That didn't work!
Ann, I personally think that insurance is a legal racket. I would say insurance just sucks. But that is my opinion. My brother says we should contact the CA Dept. of Insurance about our house issue. I want to send them one more email before we take that step.
I hope Gracie has made it safely home. Thinking of her and also of Kandie.
Melody, yes I thought so but some of the mail that went the same day as your card has not been received by those people so I was just double checking! Thank you for responding.
We're roughing it tonight. After we had our septic tank pumped, DH wanted to try and figure out where we had a clog. That turned out to be a bigger task than anticipated. So tonight I have a bucket with a toilet seat on to use overnight. He's hoping to finish the job tomorrow. He had to shower at mom's. So did DS2. Praying it goes better tomorrow. DH is exhausted.
Catherine your story about messy room mates reminds me of my nieces, one very tidy and very messy, they shared a room and Debbie’s half was immaculate and Julie’s half was a mess, id never seen anything so funny as a that room, it looked as if there was an invisible wall.
my Mum couldn’t abide any mess, if we left anything laying around she would leave it on the bottom stair and say next step the bin.
Ann sorry to hear your foot is so slow in healing, I constantly tell the GSs not to run with wet feet as a small slip can be disastrous , do they listen! No of course not haha
Gracie, I am glad you made it back safe and sound.
Kathy, I hope your DH was able to finish the job, and he gets some rest.
It was beautiful here yesterday. Looks like another beautiful day today, too. Love good walking weather.
Linda, I am praying for you to get a new care giver, soon.
Ann, I hope your foot starts feeling better.
Rebekah, I hope you are getting better , too. It sounds like you haven’t been slowed down, much.
Hi, Jayne!
Hi, Melody, Jan, Shelly, Catherine, Jean, and everyone.
DH and brother in law are still working on the sewer line but I think they are nearing the end. My dad was in charge of getting the lines in in 1975 and he didn't do anything half way! He not only ran the lines out but also somehow covered them in cement. DH had to rent a small jackhammer to get to the line! They are near the end. He will have to stop then and take the rental back and get new pipes. Praying the rest will go much easier. The bucket thing was not fun! We don't realize how great we have it until something like this happens. I'm thinking God allowed it, knowing we aren't getting younger and now was the time to fix it!
Hi everyone! I've been enjoying a lovely Friday doing chores around the house and watching the deer. They've been hanging around a lot today. So cute! At the moment, I have the house to myself...yay!
Happy birthday, Annette! I will be extending your celebration. I hope your day has been fantastic!
Yay, Gracie, so glad you made it back to WI safely!
Kathy, I hope that by now, your sewer repair is complete and your DH is relaxing with his feet up.
Jan, my girls are opposites on the tidy scale. DD1 is Oscar and DD2 is Felix from the Odd Couple. While I was sad to lose my extra room, I was so glad to have them in separate rooms because there was no confusion about whose mess was in the room! DD2 was very happy to have her own room too, so she could have a tidy room.
I should get off here and go see what I can create with my alone time.
