Ann, the house I grew up in had a fire place upstairs and mom and dad added a wood stove in the basement. About the time I was dating age, the parents put an insert into the fireplace to make it more efficient. With the insert and wood stove, you really don't have smoke in the house...unless someone did something wrong!
I have been inoicing and packing packages today and ran to the P.O. Up to $175 in sales.... I found a couple of sites on FB for selling stuff, and I think my prices are low enough. One lady asked me to unmount 6 sets and send with less weight, so less postage due. I stamped index cards for her : )
I was so busy, I forgot to eat, so had a mid afternoon meal and not hungry for dinner. But, on the way home from the PO, I stopped at the meat market and got hubby Pork Chops. I am allergic to Pork and hubby loves it, so thought I'd make him something he does not get alot. I had a bowl of Chicken Noodle soup a bit ago- yum!
I am buying gifts for an 8 year old for Christmas giving- she is crafty, so I am having a blast! Is that too young for a stamping positioner and a few stamps???
Dagmar- what (Sport) are you a trainer for? and what age??? Sounds like a fun week of parties!
Ann, I am the same- no fires or fireplace. I am hoping this is a better year- less steroids for my back will have my immunity on a better place!
Catherine- lucky you can get a sneak drop in from your work! A nice break in the day I am sure!
It was pretty nice here today, sun was out in the afternoon. We have a nice day in the forecast tomorrow as well.
Off and was hoping to try a card for teapot Tuesday. I cannot tell you how much my brother enjoyed being the recipient of that!
Waving hello to all! Prayers for those who have not stopped in!
Yes, I think it was Sally's brother who is a priest who was in the hospital. But can't remember for sure.
I was busy today. Met a friend for lunch whose dh passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest. They were married for 56 years.
Then we went to HomeSense which is like your HomeGoods and also Pier 1, where we bought the cutest little red lanterns that have a tree inside and lights up.
Then dh and I went to IHOP for dinner for their $10.00 off deal if you are over 55....I am WAY over 55, lol.....
Yay, DD1's Advent calendar is complete. DD2, who is very precise, helped me make it so it went much faster! I'll take a photo tomorrow and upload it too.
Congrats on your sales items, Shelly! That is wonderful!
Shirl, it might be helpful if we had an enclosure to protect our tree this year like your tree in a lantern find. Just because of Wesley!
Good morning Ann, I understand your thinking...the calm before the storm! LOL You never know in Wisconsin. I was hoping Kandie would see that funny dog and it would give her a little chuckle!
Shelly, that's great you were able to sell on FB. So very nice of you to unmount and stamp index cards for the lady who requested that. Way to go!
Catherine, so glad you were able to finish DD1's advent calendar. I played Mahjong yesterday afternoon and I'm playing again this afternoon. It looks like my card making is on hold again! LOL But, I always remember Ann saying, "People before paper."
I have laundry to do and then off to play. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good one, Melody! Did you ever hear about the dad who told his daughter, who had just got her driver's license that she needed to go to the garage and check her blinker fluid. So she did and was she mad at her dad when she found out there was no such thing! LOL

I'm in preparation mode. Getting a lot of things done before tomorrow. does anyone else get morbid when they have surgery approaching? I put a letter in the safe for my husband just in case. And a few notes for friends and my sons. Also insurance information and other important things DH should know. I worry that he will have trouble because I've taken care of everything over all these years.

Kathy, I'm not organized like you. As I've said before, I tend to fly by the seat of my pants! Thinking of you and sending prayers for a wonderful outcome tomorrow! I'm sure lots of people feel like you do before surgery as it is very scary, especially when the Dr. tells you all the things that could possibly go wrong. My mom would always tell the Dr. to not tell her that stuff, but he'd say that by law he had to! So she would just say, "Well, I'm not listening!" LOL

Kathy, I think it is normal what you are feeling! Big hugs dear friend, you are in my prayers!
Before all of my surgeries I would make food, freeze some, do a big grocery shopping, write up notes for my kids in my computer - they know my password, clean like a nut, and pay all the bills ahead of time or at least schedule them!
My spouse doesn't do the stuff either and is lost on making decisions! My two younger sons are my emergency contacts!
If I thought about the surgeries they would have made me crazy - more then normal, so I always keep busy! I think I told you guys that the year of my hysterectomy I made 34 kinds of cookies and went through 35 lbs of flour. My surgery was the day after Christmas, so my kids and spouse were home for me afterwards!
Good morning! It is sunny here this morning and I'm feeling good that both Advent calendars are done, yay! Now on to teacher gifts.
Gracie, I have heard that one about the blinker fluid, cracks me up every time! And I love your mom's response to the doctor!
Melody, that is a good one. I will say that when we lived in the LA area we never used our blinker because if you did, traffic would close up and make it impossible to move over! Very rude. (They are like that in the Bay Area too.) I'm thankful that the drivers are, generally, much nicer in this area.
Kathy, the only time I knew ahead of time about my surgery was when my tonsils were removed when I was 19. And, at that age, I didn't have those thoughts. My other surgeries were c-sections and weren't planned to be c-sections so no preparing ahead of time. Thankfully, our church brings meals to families with new babies for a week or so. That was extremely helpful.
My DH would be in trouble if something happened to me because I take care of the bills etc. too. I really should have him work with me on that so he knows more about it.
Ann, sounds like we think alike! I have done pretty much everything on your list! I have ham and green beans in the crock pot. My demo friend is making supper for DH to pick up Monday night. Banking is done, bills are paid. I haven't had time to Christmas shop yet, which is so not like me. I'm usually done by the end of November but I just haven't had any time. I am giving cash as the big gift, but I like to have stuff for them to open. I have all my cards done and mailed and handmade gifts for family and friends and I've set up my sister to take mom and dad to his appts on the 16th. Mom can't handle him alone and even if I could drive by then, I couldn't lift him if he fell. They said I'm not to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for six weeks. So I bought my 40 case of water when I was out Tuesday. That is so heavy I have to put it in the top part of the cart so I can unload it to the car trunk easier. It was hard getting it into the house when I got home. Just wasn't waiting for help. My arm is black and blue from the blood work, but I'm not complaining. It seems that I bruise quicker the times it doesn't hurt and I'll take bruising over pain any day. Its funny but they gave me a pain scale so I can accurately tell them on a scale of one to ten how much pain I'm in after surgery. Do you know they have childbirth at only an 8? They give you examples so you can report accurately. I'll take a picture of their scale and post it here in a minute
Kathy, I have had a kidney stone and I think that is more painful than child birth. With both girls I labored all day long before they took me to surgery. The reason I think kidney stones are more painful is that the pain just stays, it doesn't come and go in waves like with childbirth.

Must run, off to work!
They put childbirth and kidney stones on the same number. I saw DH in pain with stones, and I believe that's about as close to childbirth as you'll get. You're right though. Unless you are in the ER like DH and getting very good pain meds, that pain doesn't let up.
Melody, that is too funny! And also your story Gracie, about your mom telling the Dr. she was not listening, lol...I don't tend to read about any of the side effects etc. when I get an Rx.
Kathy, prayers for you! I agree with Ann, it is completely normal when you are having surgery.
I got half of my Christmas cards out yesterday and I have to finish that soon.
Off to tidy up my mess. I am really good at making a mess, lol......
Thinking and praying for you, Kathy. You are really organized! DH does all financial stuff here. So I wouldn’t have to organize any of that. And I worked at a bank for thirty years and sold mutual funds and securities, so if something happens to him, I think I would be ok. He has everything organized, and now we do all that stuff together.
Cooking ahead,; DH, says don’t bother. He cooks as good as me .
Love that sign, Gracie, and yours too, Melody.
Would love to hear from Kandie. And Sally. And Hawaiian.
I got my international cards out today . In fact, I got a lot of them sent today and yesterday. I made three cards alike, my A card. So only need about seven more. But if this is like other years. I had DH write notes to include in ones to his family, all out of town. That way , he feels he did something.
I keep thinking of more, if it is like last year. I usually send out or give about 50 to 60 cards. Not like Ann. I got about half the alphas sent, so far.
We have a WSU Shocker basketball game tonight. We went out to
Cracker Barrel for our lunch dinner, and brought leftovers for tomorrow night. I am falling asleep writing, so will BBL. . Nap time., not really. Jeopardy time.
Speaking of Cracker Barrel, we saw an ad on t.v. last night, and the food sure looked good. We do not have any of those in Canada, that I am aware of. Closest would probably be in Washington, somewhere.
Did a bit of tidying up this morning and just got a good walk in and it is now 3 p.m. Got to start on the 2nd half of my cards now.
Just popping on to day a quick hello before we head out to do some Xmas shopping......
and hubby is going to see the car people about his new car. Yep we gave in after our very quick trial. He’s getting himself a new car..yay.
Miss you ladies and the chat. I’m still decluttering but can see the light at the end. 2 more rooms to go and one is my craft room...eek. Not looking forward to that one lol.
Kathy, thinking of you and hope that your surgery goes well.
Sis Vicki thinking of you and your family...big hugs
I’ve missed a lot of chat but will catch up and soon it will be a New Year and new start.
Hugs
