Hi: When I upload pictures, before the picture is displayed in gallery there is a little square box that says "photo pending approval". It usually goes away and my photo pops up in 30 - 60 minutes. I uploaded my last photo about 3+ hours ago and still no pictures, just the square box saying "photo pending approval". I really don't see this happening to other people's pics. What am I doing wrong or to make this happen? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
Ok, it's just me again. I'm finally reading the instructions in the sticky above -- do first, read later -- right?!?!?!? I have never changed the name of my photo before I upload it -- could that be why this is happening to me? I sure don't understand a lot of this stuff. And when you first start here there is so much to read, and not knowing where to find it all can be a bit confusing. Still, and input into my problem would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
You haven't done anything wrong. Sometimes it actually takes a few hours for the moderators to approve all the photos because there are so many members uploading all at once.
Ok, hello, me again! My problem was solved. It did just take several hours rather than the usual minute or two. We sure do keep 'em busy at splitcoast don't we? Now, how do I remove my thread?!
Yep, photo uploads must be manually approved -- keeps the gallery from getting cluttered with people's family snapshots (some folks try to use SCS as a free online hosting service) and prevents inappropriate material from being displayed (yes, spammers do try to post some weird stuff). It's Saturday afternoon, so I'll bet they're slammed with images from members who didn't have time to upload during the week and are trying to get their stuff online before tomorrow gets here, since we're not supposed to upload anything on Sundays.
For accountability reasons we cannot delete threads ourselves. A moderator must do that, although some do get around this by simply editing their posts to remove the text. It's really not necessary, though, because this question gets asked by newbie uploaders all the time and it would be helpful to leave it up for the next person who comes along and didn't read the sticky!

Thanks for the reply!! I know now what the hold up was... I had submitted 2 checkbook covers, and the delay was trying to decide where it should be posted. They selected to put it in the stamps used "in the wild" instead of checkbook covers!! Yes, I read the sticky and have been renaming my files, but thanks!! Sometimes this can be confusing, but I guess we learn as we go!
Yes! You are right... Saturdays are super busy so sometimes we get behind a bit and it takes awhile to catch up. As long as you can see your image in your gallery, and it says waiting for approval, you've done everything right and we'll get to it asap! Thanks for your patience on the weekends. Remember, Sunday is no upload day.
