Default Unable to upload picture.

Since yesterday I have been unable to upload a photo into my gallery. The screen says it's processing and then it goes white. No processing at all. What's up with the site?

Hi Beth -

It's actually the size of your images that is crashing your uploads.
If you reduce the total file size to < 500 kb, and make sure the photo is no larger than 500 pixels wide or high, you won't have any problems.

HTH!

Lydia

Thanks, I changed my camera and computer settings. Why is this a problem now and never before? Have some parameters changed for members?

I believe it's part of efforts to speed up the performance of the site on the new servers, which you should be noticing. However, we are working on a message for those files that exceed the uploader's capacity so that its clearer.

Lydia, I am having a problem uploading a picture today, too. It took 2 tries before the picture said it was uploaded (and I could see it). After I fill in page 2 with all the details, I just get a spinning circle and after a verrrrry long time a message from I.E. that it did not go through. I've tried 3 times and get the same thing. I went to supper and came back and now I don't even see the picture any more.

Lydia, I looked at your reply to Beth about the size. I'm using the same size I have been uploading with since I became a member of SCS. Unfortunately, my program does not mention kb but instead says that the picture is sized for Web Page Display at 549w by 640h (pixels). Can you help me sort this out, please

Lydia, I have good news and bad news. First the good news, I tried the upload again and it finally went through. The bad news was that once I got "Your image was uploaded successfully!", I continued to get the spinning circle. I finally got tired of waiting and used the "click here if you don't want to wait any long" but that didn't work either. I continued to get the dreaded spinning circle. Once I get that spinning circle I can't go anywhere else on the site, I have to get off SCS and come back in and start over.

It would be good to have that clarified somewhere. Because it used to be 800 pixels wide, which is what I am used to sizing to. I've been wondering do I need to start making them smaller...

Hey guys -

I'll answer you both in one post.

There are two issues that will crash the uploader - total file size - your initial posts were 1MB or larger, which is extremely large for a photo upload - and total pixels.

With new camera technology, there are more pixels per inch, which means more information, which means struggling servers.

In general, if you can keep your photos to no more than 500 pixels in either direction, and at around 200K you are not going to crash your uploads.

If I had precise pixel info I'd give it to you, but at this time I don't. When I get those guidelines though, I'll definitely post them. I do know that images of the size I described work great.

Also, if you have a previous failed upload, it will not effect future uploads unless they exceed those dimension.

Hope that helps!

Default I can't upload a photo. :(

I have seriously worked on this all night. I have made the picture file size smaller. I constantly get the "file upload failed" message. Help? Please?! Thank you.

I'm so sorry. There are resizing tips here http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...d.php?t=495283

But you need to make sure that both width and height are less than 2048 pixels.
