Question Trouble viewing/downloading *.doc files

While viewing this thread....

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

I came to two posts from Stampin'HappyInCT that have a total of five faux postage templates attached as Word docs. I find that I can neither open them directly from the site nor save them on my PC to open them later. When I attempt to save them, the default file name is clear.gif -- which is about what I see when I try to open the docs from the site.

I'm logged in, but don't know where I've gone wrong.

I had the same results with this thread as well...

Thanks for your help, and for this incredible resource!

The same thing is happening for me on these threads, and I have NO clue as to
what to do. If I click on the link & it doesn't come up, I'm done. I am not the
least bit computer savvy. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Hey Maria-this sometimes happens to me too. I'll just get a tiny black dot to look at. I don't know how to change that. Sorry.

Hey Mary-

I've had this problem since before the changeover-Have you tried this...

Right click on the link or attachment. This will give you a menu and about the 3rd one down is "Save Target As". Clicky on that one. You have to save it to My Documents or the Desktop. And then it will give you a box asking you if you want to open it.

It's a rather tedious process, but it's worth it. HTH

looks like these attachments didn't survive the forum conversion, though catie's method is worth trying. THANK YOU Maria, for documenting what you tried and where the problem was. we're looking at this now...

Default Here's another example

The same is true with this thread, but this time with a *.pdf. I'm logged in using my work PC -- same results as with my home PC last night.

I dont' know if this is part of the same problem or if it's a problem with my laptop. Whenever I try to download an attachment, I right click and use "save target as" it saves a file called clear.gif. This of course, is an empty file. Ill try to go back and get the url's for your reference. I will also try it on my big computer....

Thanks!

BTW, Daven et al. This new forum is great! Thanks so much for all of your hard work. This is one gal who sure appreciates it. And I used to work tech support at Oracle so I know what an undertaking this was. You guys are great!!!

Ciao!

I tried to right click & save as.....it is still not opening. Comes up as clear.gif & will not open.
In fact everything I tried to do that with comes up the same: "clear.gif". Everyone's attachment can't be the same thing????

I think there are still some kinks to be worked out and I'm sure Daven is aware of these. They will probably be resolved soon.

Note for Daven in case this helps -

I am having this same problem with all attachments posted. They were working fine until I updated my Firefox browser yesterday. Now I am not able to see any attachments - even ones that I was able to view before I updated.

As other posters have mentioned, right-clicking and trying to "save as" only saves a file called clear.gif, which is a blank picture - no matter what file format the attachment is. It really looks like some sort of security thing, almost as though my browser is trying to protect me from downloading attachments. However, I've also tried opening them with IE which hasn't been updated and they don't work that way either.

I've even had my computer-geek son take a look at these to see if he could figure out if it was something I was doing wrong, but he wasn't able to find anything.
