Default Taking pictures of cards...

How does everyone take such great pics of their cards? I have been trying to get something set up to take pics of mine but I keep getting to much flash or not enough light.

TIA!

I started out taking pictures then found the scanner worked much better. Now I only take pics of 3-d items. I've found when using a flash it's better to be a little distance away and use the zoom in rather then start right up close. The flash doesn't wash stuff out so much that way. Also sometimes using black cardstock as background helps.

Thanks Jami! I'll try scanning them. I didn't even think of that.

What I do to get great pics, but not too much flash is to hold the camera high above the item. My camera has a "flower" setting for taking close-up pictures of small items. I use that setting and hold my camera about 2 feet above the item. That way the flash doesn't wash out the color. I also try to take photos in daylight because it usually doesn't need a flash when it's near a window, but out of direct sunlight.

I strictly use a digital camera, don't own a scanner, and find that a combination of lighting is the best. When I shoot, I use the halogen lights that in the can lights, the incandescents that are in the ceiling fan light, then on the table where I shoot there is a florescent twirly bulb in the lamp, add natural daylight from the window, and it is a balanced light that seems to reflect the true colors in the card. Sure, lots of lights are on, but are quickly shut off after a minute or so.....

HTH,
Valerie
