For the first time ever on SCS, this morning I noticed TWO porn type of threads posted in the General Stamping forum, both with the word "interesting" in the title. I didn't see any option to "report this thread," so I'm posting it here.

The option is the little * button at the bottom of the post. I've seen people report them and then just post to it so everyone else knows they are reported. Hope that helps!
Thanks, Jolene! I knew there was supposed to be an option for that, but I just couldn't remember what it was and there was nothing "spelled out" for me.
I just reported the one that didn't have a reply that it had already been reported, but I don't want to actually reply to that thread. Repulsive.

In the past couple of days I've run across spam posts in the forums and reported them, but the last one was particularly offensive and I'm concerned that opening spam to report it my cause a cookie of some sort to be downloaded onto my computer. Is there a way to report something without opening it? (Nice to have that little pop up window that you can read a bit of a post without opening it) or am I being a worrywart or incredibly niave? Thanks
Thanks for asking the ?. This is something I am wondering about also.
Last week I opened one not realizing what it was at the time. Then I started wondering what did I just do to my computer by opening it.
Gee, could we post the persons name here so we can all add them to our ignore list?!
I thought this was for stamping and scrapping?! That's just plain RUDE!
Glad I didn't see it...I would have been steamin'!!!! :(
Yes, there is. Look in the lower left hand corner of the post box...right next to where it shows whether a member is 'on' or 'off' is a box with a * in it...use that to report spam to the mods..I would caution members to never open spam, as it may contain viruses or other malicious things.
Where is the * ? I see them once a thread has been opened, but is it accessable before that? Thanks,
No, you have to open the thread to access the * button...just opening the thread will not do anything to your computer...just don't click on any links within a spam post.
Once reported the first mod up who gets the message deletes the thread and I have been banning the users immediately.
If you guys would do me a favor-once you report the thread you can just put a "thread reported" post and hopefully not everyone has to report it. This morning I had like 100 "reported posts" and I went through all of them to make sure I did not miss anything. Once a thread has been reported you do not need to "re-report it" as the same message comes to our e-mails.;)
Thank you all for helping to keep the site spam free!!!!!!!

Can some SCS techie (ie Davin & co) concur with our sassy sara? TIA
Opening the thread won't hurt your computer - as Sara said, you have to click on the link in order for it to do anything. Don't click on links, don't download anything that looks suspicious.
HTH
Sorry Britta, I was one of the 100 :( Now I know to do the "thread reported" thing. Bummer that these jerks can get into so many great places, but great that we can just weed them out. Thanks for all you do!
I'm wondering if putting your post in the GS forum wouldn't help to cut down on your multiple emails. Maybe a sticky, so people can refer to it when the nasties sneek in. JMHO
I reported my first one this morning. I was not aware I should reply to the thread. It certainly makes sense so that you aren't flooded with reports on the same thread. I'll be posting "reported" in the future.
This is the first time I've ever seen any posts like this on this site but had heard about some last week so I knew how to report it.
Thank you and all the other mods for keeping this a great place to be.

duh I didn't even think to post that I reported the thread - I'll remember to do that from now on!! These spam posts - especially the porn ones - are SO annoying!!! WAR ON THE SPAMMERS!!!
we'll always be battling the spammers I'm afraid. but, when it's 90,000 to 1 the odds are in our favor every time it happens :^)
we're in the process of updating our forum software, and it has some new safeguards against spammers. hopefully that'll help, at least somewhat.
thanks for your patience with this everyone. unfortunately there's only a limited number of things we can do to prevent it, and most of the time it'll just be a matter of deleting them as quickly as we can.
Please, please, please put a sticky with the directions on reporting and posting that you reported in the GS forum! I'm sure there are lots of us who will be happy to help, but I know I was pretty ignorant at first about what to do. With all the newbies who come, a sticky will keep it where we/they can see it. Thanks!
I think I get what you're saying;) Very crass?? Thanks for the heads up!
If they're anything like the most recent ones advertising where to get action, enhancement, or cell phones, then they probably don't belong in the forum. Does that help?

I did re-report one when I saw that there had been 3 or 4 hours since the post that said "Reported." I thought perhaps that person had not clicked the[*] button but had just posted to the thread and assumed the mods would find it there.
Hope that was not the one that filled your mailbox.
Karen, if you see a spam thread you can help the mods find it quickly by clicking the little asterisk that appears under the poster's name (next to the little button that says "on" or "off" for your online status). It's the "bad post" button. Then post "reported" to that thread so that we know the mods have been alerted and they don't get 500 e-mails about the same thing. ;)
