The only checkmark I know of is the one that shows which threads you are subscribed to. So, is the problem that the little checkmark to show you're subscribed to the thread isn't there when you're in the VSN forum and looking at the list of threads?
Have you checked to see if you are still subscribed to the threads? (Are they on your list of subscribed threads?)
If you've become unsubscribed, you can always resubscribe to the thread by going into the thread, going to the thread tools drop down menu (near the top of the thread, on the right) and selecting "Subscribe to this Thread." Or just post in the thread again if doing so usually subscribes you.
But the only person who can see your thread subscriptions is you. While I'm not familiar with the VSN rules, I can't imagine it's required that you subscribe to be eligible for prizes.
