Default Moderators: What is going on with the spam?*moved*

I am wondering if the moderators can give us an update on what is being done regarding the spam situation.

Now we are being subjected to porn type spam with offensive subject lines not just content. It is impossible to avoid reading the subject line (even if we don't open the posting).

I am wondering how this is being done seeing as you can't post unless you are a member. So have we been hacked, or have they automated a process where they can sign up and post messages, or are they doing this manually? Any ideas?

Default Why don't we...

Try to implement a code validation system on each post. You've probably seen those on other sites where a series of letters/numbers is displayed as a graphic and you have to type it in. It then validates that what you typed was what was displayed and then accepts the post.

I seriously doubt these postings are being submitted manually. Usually a computer program does them. The program would be designed to submit postings to any message board using the message board program we are running.

Has anyone talked to the developer of the message board software to see if this validation process can be added, whether there is a newer version of the software, or even looked into alternative message board software?

They *are* being submitted manually. We do have a validation process, too, so these spammers are registering to become members, validating their email accounts, and then logging in to post.

As Daven's said in the past, it is something we'll just have to keep dealing with. I'll send him a link to this thread, and see if he has more info he can provide.
