Default Anyone else worried about banners?

I used to follow links and banners from this site without too much worry. It seemed that they were safe and often interesting places and information.

This was before....now, I find I am afraid to click on them as they often seem to go to weird places. I know we have been sending the ad info to Daven for ads that are offensive or obnoxious, but I started wondering if all of us are being more careful about what we click?

I know Daven and company were meeting soon to discuss ads here and thought it might be useful to hear what people think on this.

I rarely click on them. Most of the time I don't even see them because if I'm in the middle of a thread, the banners at the top and bottom of the page aren't visible on my screen.

I also have amazing self control when it comes to advertising. :p Most of the stuff isn't of interest to me, and I only buy what I really love. So I don't spend a lot of time cruising unfamiliar websites unless someone I know has personally recommended them for one reason or another.

as of today we've dropped our relationship with the company that supplied our "network" ads. we have a number of ad sources, those we sell directly to companies like Gina K., Crafty Secrets, Scor-Pal et al are one source. we also accept ads from Google's network.

we've got a new program called Adtuition which we're really excited about, and then we had these other networks. call them the advertisers of last resort, they frequently didn't live up to a standard I was comfortable with. excessive animation, not relevant to crafting, inappropriate subject matter, poor taste, we've been getting all of that and it's really counter to what I want advertising at Splitcoast to be.

when you see an ad for a product or company that you actually care about, a lot of what we typically associate with "advertising" kind of gets turned on its head. instead of an intrusion, it's all of a sudden some useful information. that's what we want from our ad programs. companies like those I mentioned before, and our member companies, we're honored and fortunate to have them participating here.

Thanks so much for all your hard work in getting this situation going back in a good direction.
