Am I the only one seeing tons of scam clothing ads on the left? Many are owned by one Chinese company, and there are dozens (hundreds?) of articles written about them and how to recognize them.
Most are extremely cheap knock-offs (aka stolen designs like Ali Express does with stamp/die designs) from legit companies.
Is there a way for SCS to block these ads or ask the company that provides ad packages to stop them? (When I was a moderator on a large manufacturer’s forum, ads that were offensive, religious, political, or scams were taken off by the company that provided ads. But maybe a large manufacturer has more clout than a stamping community.)
I’ve tried personalizing ads and not personalizing them but 90% remain those for fake rip-off clothing.
Beth, I think they can block them if you capture the link and give it to them.. I would do it but I'm not sure which are fake because I don't shop online.
Lydia, who would I send the links to? Or maybe a moderator could grab them?
A moderator can't grab a link if they can't see the ad, and we don't all see the same ads, which is why they ask users to get the link for ads they want to report.
There have been many. The threads have probably been archived. It seems to happen every so often. I think some ads were dating sites, but I know there were others.
Ads follow you from other sites you visit. If you send us a URL we can tell if the ad you've seen is an ad that is in our network or one of our advertisers, or if it's a random ad only you see because of your browsing history which is the most common. No two people see the same ads most of the time. I haven't seen anything you're talking about, and it's unlikely that is an ad served from us - it's served from your browser.
Thanks Lydia - right, I know how it works and dealt with ads in the past (see OP). Since I hadn’t visited a clothing site in ages I didn’t think they had followed me. I’ll grab a couple URLs but also tweak my ad settings.
We ALWAYS ask for the URLs. We can't find out if they're coming from you or us if we don't have that
Yes, absolutely the URLs are needed. I was saying I’ve never seen anything written about it - like in an FAQ, newsletter, etc. But maybe you mean in response to someone in a post? If that’s the case I didn’t happen to see the individual posts.
