Thread Read??
I have been to other Forums and there is an option to do just one thread read so you aren't opening and re-reading. The only thing I have found is All Forums Read. I don't have time to read all the Forums in one sitting. (I have 2 young kids) Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way so I'm not re-reading. Maybe I'm just tooooo new to this. Help needed!!

I guess no one wants to help me!!
I'm guessing either since it has been 3 week since I asked this question either no one wants to help me or I did it wrong and no one knows I'm asking a question I need help on.
I'm not 100% sure I understand what you question is but I'm going to take a guess that you're trying to determine which forums/threads have new posts since you last read them?
The little squares in the left-most column are supposed to be the indicators for which forums have new posts. With the traffic here, at the top level (viewing all the forums) they're pretty much all going to have an orange square indicating new posts. When you click on a specific forum, at the very bottom you will see the attached legend which shows you what the different colored squares are supposed to indicate for each thread. In many forumns, the first couple of pages are probably all going to have orange squares because there is so much volume.
Keep in mind, I'm just the messenger .... I know, the squares don't appear different enough in color to detemine what they are and many people have asked for that to be changed. Things might be about to change soon though , at least that the speculation based on Daven's post here so maybe this is something that will be improved.
If that wasn't your question, maybe you can rephrase it or give me some more detail. I'll be happy to help you if I can.

The colors are hard to see sometimes. But really I guess what I think I'm doing wrong is under "Quick Links" is "mark forums read" I thought it would do individual formus so if I came back say tomorrow I could tell which coulpe of forums or threads I read yesterday. With 2 small kids Its hard to go through everything in one day. I started reading past things here and there and tried coming back everyday to read more but realized the "mark forums read" button was doing ALL forums. Then I would re-read something I read a couple of days ago. My husband goes to a Forum online and he can mark individual threads he has read. Then when he goes back the next day he knows all he has to do is read the new post. On the ones he has never read it shows differently. Does that make sense? Does SCS have a way to do that? Maybe I just don't know where or what button to push. Thanks for helping!!!!!
let me see if I can help with this one a little bit. when looking at the thread listings you'll see little square's next to each thread title. most will have an orange or gray square. orange means that thread has new posts, gray means you've read it (and presumably there's no new posts since last time you were in there).
like was said above, there's enough posts here so that many times you'll probably see *all* orange squares. if you look to the right of the thread title you might see a little green triangle. clicking the green triangle should take you to your first unread post in that thread.
does that help at all?
the squares not differing in color (at least some of them) was initially intentional. when I see lots of symbols like that on a site I can never remember what they all mean, and in the interest of keeping things simple we pared down the number of different colors. we've gotten requests to revisit that and will, eventually.

I have never noticed the green triangle before so that helps!!! I just wished since there is no way for one person to read everything on here in one sitting there should be a way to mark individual threads read so if your newer (if thats a word) like me you can slowly catch up on older threads as well as keep up with the new stuff. The color thing does need to be changed. My husband tried to help me one night and said, "there is no difference in those colors." Thanks for Everyones help!!!

I am guessing that Quick Links > Mark Forums Read will mark all the SCS forums with a single click. But there is another way to mark individual forums read, which sounds closer to what you want to do.
Display the index page for a specific forum, then go to Forum Tools > Mark This Forum Read. That should mark a single forum read and not change the others.
nah, I think I'm wrong. the boxes only indicate new posts/no new posts, since your last visit I believe.
I do believe there's an option we could turn on that would track what you're referring to - for each member, what threads have been read and which haven't. but the idea of even attempting that scares me to death - there would be many many thousands of threads to track for each member and then many thousands of members.

I agree on the colors being so close......especially those with crappy or low end graphic cards.....all the reds and oranges are the same for me. I end up having to scroll through and look for the little green arrows.

My husband visits a forum for his hobby (birds) and they have this option! When he goes in only the items he hasn't "marked read" apear. He is able to go on and get right off. Me on the other hand end up re-reading and re-reading and getting frustrated. Thanks to Judi (Crafts) Now I know how to mark individual threads!!! Yeah. Thanks to everyone for your help.
And on the color thing.... really needs to be changed. either with better colors, symbols or shapes or something!!

Nope. As you have already figured out, that forum tool works at the individual forum level, not at the thread level. It's a way to mark separate forums read rather than marking all forums simultaneously.
