Hi there! If you are talking about uploading to your gallery, you will need to upload an image that's saved on your computer. You can't use a hosted image in your gallery.

Why do you guys have to change the sizing stuff on pictures? I upload on every other site with my pics and no problem, but I get on here, where I paid good money to join so I could get immediate uploads, and I have to resize everything. It makes no sense to me at all, and being the computer illiterate that I am, even with my photo editing program I'm not succeeding in making them small enough and wasting perfectly good time doing so. I would think if my photos are good enough for other sites then I shouldn't have to go changing settings, editing for Splitcoast. I have some wonderful projects I would LOVE to share, but I guess you guys won't be seeing them, much less getting any more of my money. Sorry, but I am a bit ticked after so many fast uploads here and enjoying your site.

Hi there. So sorry you are frustrated. Most photo sharing sites have total storage limits and we are very happy to offer users unlimited photo uploads. In order to do that with our millions of user photos we do have to impose file size limits per picture so that the site is responsive, fast and accessible. The file size we allow is very large - if you printed a 3 megapixel photo it would be larger than your computer monitor. So we aren't being stingy, but we do have to be practical. . Digital camera technology has improved to the point where the simplest point and shoot cameras can capture super high res large format images. If you change your camera settings you won't have to resize your photos at all and you can still have extremely large high res images of your art that can be printed at high resolution in nearly poster size.

I can say that I have been using PictureTrail as paid-for storage for the last five years, and even when I upload images sized to 800x600, I get an automatic message saying that I might like to make my images smaller. And at that, it's not just the automated message. I downgraded my account recently because I'd stopped storing some stuff there, and customer support said my files were big!!
I'm sorry you're frustrated, but I don't think it's unusual to need to size things down. The amount of free space you get in a Blogger album would fill in no time without making photos a bit smaller .
I'm just wondering how people have been uploading big photos when I remember Jenn recommending not having the largest dimension bigger than 800 pixels. I thought that was the limit!!

So I know I have not read every post out here but when did the size change? My photos are all 1932x2576 and always have been. I went back to check all the photos in my gallery and they are all the same size. Where would we have seen that the photo size had changed? Am I missing something?

Yes - if you look at the very first post in this thread you will see the dimensions. The 2576 is your problem - photos need to be no more than 2048 in either direction.. Hth!

Thank you, I understood that the 2576 was my problem now. I did not understand when it changed and where we would have seen notification of such a change before I took all my pictures. I do not see on my photo software where I can now change the pixel size. It just would have been nice to know there was going to be a change.

Post 1 has some links for resizing photos. I had to do that with some of mine ... I thought it was going to be tedious and difficult. It was very easy ... and fast. Then you could have both photos (the original and the resized one) stored on your computer and just upload the resized one. Good Luck.

Hi Lydia when I tried to resize in my paint program it cropped the picture to just one corner. It is 2304 x 3072 If at first you don't succeed. . .

Yeah paint can be snarky. You can try the free online resizer in my post or here are some instructions for paint. Resize an Image in Microsoft Paint - wikiHow

Let me know!

Thank you Lydia for all of the information you provided on resizing pictures. Finally managed to upload some pics to my gallery. The next step will be making adjustments to my camera so it doesn't take so long next time. Thank you again.

Okay - camera has now been adjusted for a smaller pixel size and everything appears to be working fine. Thank you again. Next project - creating a watermark. Whew - maybe tomorrow - too much technology for one day. Have a great day.

For the record, when resizing with the Paint program, you can't just change the pixel size under the "image > attributes" (or what you describe will happen). You have to select the "Image > stretch and skew" and then choose a percentage to resize to. (Put the same % in the horizontal AND vertical stretch boxes... if you select, say, 75, it will make your image 75% the size of the original.)

Hi Kelly

You may have set the size too small. You have the option of uploading very large photos, so try a camera setting that is 1 or 2 megapixels. If you give me the make and model of your camera I can help you find the right one.

Lydia, I have a Sony Cybershot, Model # DSC-S90. I have changed the settings to VGA (E-mail) and that was really blurry, so I tried 1M and then 3M and both of those settings were really blurry too. I know that you said 3M is the largest we can upload here. My other options are 3:2 and 4M.

The VGA setting is plenty big enough - that's 640 x 480 which is larger than any of the photos in my gallery. so the problem is not that setting. There's also a setting on that camera for FINE or STD. Did you choose fine?

It might just be an aperature/focus issue. I set mine on the Macro setting to focus tightly on the card details..

Probably the two people would be fine..

Here is a link to your manual though - this has all the menus and the options.

When I first encountered this issue, I had no clue how to change the photo size. So, I pretend to email it to myself. When I email a photo, I am given the option of making the photo smaller for mailing. I simply act like I'm emailing the photo, click on the size I want, and click OK. A smaller version is attached to an outgoing email. Rather than actually emailing it, I click on the attachment and do a Save As. The smaller version is then saved to my gallery and the upload works perfectly.
