Default Long URLs making it difficult for vision-impaired reader!

Hello,

I just wanted to reiterate the difficulty I have reading the forums when people have long URLs embedded in their text or in their sig. A lot of people have a link to their gallery embedded in their sig, and when I have the text enlarged enough so I can comfortably read it, these URLs stretch out my screen so I have to scroll back and forth to read each post on that page.

Is there some great way to either algorithmically or informationally get people to embed links with titles showing rather than the URL? (I hope this makes sense; if not I'm happy to clarify.) I don't feel like PMing every other Joe and Jane on the site. These long URLs decrease the accessibility of this site for me and others with my difficulty.

Thank you very much for listening.

I'd love it if we could have tutorials for specific topics like this. Or a least a link to a tutorial in message board tricks

maybe this can be of some help.

one way of displaying your link is to just have the whole link in the message - like this, using my quite pitiful gallery.
puppypaws's Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
this is what is problematic for the original poster.

but here is something you can do. you can use a word to substitue for the whole link.

gallery

what i did was use the left bracket, then i typed url= and after the = i copied in the whole address for my gallery, starting with the http:\\ part

at the end of it all i put in a closed bracket then i typed the word gallery and right after that i did the left bracket and then a /url and then the right bracket. here is what it looks like but with the ( instead of the bracket.

(url=http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=6854)gallery(/url)

does that make any sense?

sorry - several edits later i think this may make some sense.

Thanks for the directions! Testing to see if I did it correctly.

Wahoo, it worked. Thank you so much for enlightening my feeble mind. If I can do it, anyone can!

Thank you so much for your excellent explanation and instructions. I really appreciate everyone reading this thread and keeping the "nice" way of including hyperlinks in mind.

I tried a few days ago to change my sig to have text instead of the full URL because I like that look better, but adding the extra characters to enter the proper code made my signature too long! :( I'll see what I can do to tweak things so that it will fit.

this should work for you.

row4d

change the () to the left and right brackets.

ETA - ok, nevermind, you got it all done just right.

I was thinking of changing my quote anyway -- I think the new one is shorter and will probably result in fewer PMs clogging my inbox.

Never mind, it won't fit. Guess I'll either have to find something else or take it out altogether! :?

*************

And it finally happened, folks -- I'm a Stampin' Fool! Of course, my mom and my roommate could have told you that already.

I don't think quotations and strings of words in sigs stretch the page out, because these have spaces every so often and get continued onto the next line once a certain length is reached, whereas URLs do not.
