Well, Christmas stuff is officially out. Has anyone seen any good ribbon organizers yet this year? Last year they were at Target. Anyonw know of any this year? I saw one somewhere but can't remember - it was clear with a green or red lid and had a pole the ribbon roles are on inside the box and slots the ribbon would feed out of the box. I am going back out today and will post where to find it when I verify which store it was. It was $9.99 and I guess I'll get one but might need two for all the ribbon. But they did snap together so you could combine two units and there was another compartment underneath the ribbon for scissors and tape and stuff that snapped to the bottom - so for $20, you could have a double decker ribbon storage and two storage compartments - is it worth it? Probably not - will I buy it? Probably will!
I made one by drilling holes in plastic shoebox and then running a dowel rod down the middle. I have changed over to using a pants hanger from walmart instead. In the hanger section get one of the multiple pants hangers. The arms come unhinged at one end and you can slip the spools of ribbon on and off. HTH.
I speak the truth not so much as I would, but as much as I dare, .......and I dare a little more as I grow older. -Michel de Montaigne, essayist (1533-1592)
I like the pants hanger idea - but I don't have anywhere to hang it in my stamping room. Not sure I'll like the box I described either though - b/c I have two cats - one of which likes to find things like that - bite on the ribbon end and take off running - unwinding the entire spool of ribbon and in the process will chew on it and break it off at various lengths. Will also eat pieces of it and poop will be multicolored for days! Side story: I used to buy the fuzzy mice as toys - until I found out he was chewing off the tails. Then, his poop was green and red and fuzzy! Gross I know!

They were $5.99 a piece. They also had a compartment that would snap close...and you could stack them, too.
Give me a minute & I'll take some pictures & post them.

I have two cats as well. I hang my ribbon on a dowell rod hanging from some shelves. Using the rectangle punch, I punch holes all around the one side of the cardboard of my ribbon and pull the ribbon through the nearest hole each time. This way they can't just pull and go as they have in the past. Betty :-)

Sorry I took a little longer than expected...was sidetracked!
One picture is of it by itself--how it's sold. The other is two stacked together. I have ribbon in one of them. The SU! ribbon goes over the dowel very well, but some of the non-SU! dowels are a little tight. Anyway, there are 5 slits, but they're pretty big. I really like them!
I have two cats as well, but they honestly don't mess with my stuff--unless I move it around in front of them while they're feeling frisky! Of course, they are 5 and 10 years old... ;)

Reason: pregnancy brain...
Those are exactly what I saw at Joann's! They were $9.99 there and I was going to buy them! Guess I'll go to only target now! You just saved me a trip!
And, my cats are 6 years old.....Samson is the nosy one - he gets into EVERYTHING! He loves to sit on my stamp table and just look around to see what he can get into! Delilah very rarely gets into much of anything. She is my angel kitty and Samson my devil kitty!
I bought several of the ribbon organizers at Target this week and stacked all of the top pieces together to hold my ribbon, then I stacked the bottoms to each other to hold other supplies. Works great. I have my ribbon organized by type with the grossgrain in the top one. The spools are bigger and I left the lid loose on top so the spools can turn easily. I have two cats also, one never bothers anything and the other ones name is "Stinker". Her name explains it all. So far, she has not bothered my ribbon.
I'm very interested in these - can you tell me what company makes them? Are they Rubbermaid/Sterlite etc? I want to see if I can find anything similar in Canada. Thanks!
Where exactly did you find these in Target? I have looked numerous times for them and can't seem to find them in our Target. What aisle should I be looking in?
They are made by Snapware and are called "Snap N' Stack Ribbon Dispenser.
I just went on a hunt for these after seeing Karen's beautiful pictures. From my research - Joann's had them for $9.99 (6.99 with 40% coupon), Linen 'n' Thing had them for 7.99 (This is the one I bought), and Target didn't have them in. Grrrr. I had thought it was shoebox size but it is smaller than that.
I am loving it so far! Great find Karen!
Karen! Thank you for posting the organizer you found at Target. I zipped up there and they had a bunch. I bought two and stacked them together; take a look! I am so excited! Thanks again!
AND to think I stood there at the end of the aisle today trying to decide and left without them. I guess I'll have to go back now after seeing your pics!!! I LOVE organizational tools!
OK, what am I doing wrong? I bought one of these a month ago, but my SU grossgrain didn't fit. When I put the grossgrain on the dowel thingy, the spools were too big for the dowel to fit into the slot. So the dowel just kind of flopped around loose in the container. I did put lots of other non-SU ribbon in mine, but I didn't go back to get more since they didn't really fit well. Do your SU grossgrain fit well in these? Am I doing something wrong?

I don't have these (but may need to get them!), but the dowels I do use are also too big. I just enlarge the hole so that the rolls fit. It's not pretty, but it works.
I would really like to find something that the rolls just sit on, rather than dowels because I'm always finding myself wanting to remove the one in the middle. Anyone have any pointers on where to shop for something like an open shelf that's wall-mounted...and cheap, of course!

I found them in the storage area. They were on the end of an aisle.

I use a tension curtain rod - and hang them from the window in my scrap room. It's very portable that way too - cuz you can always change it's size and hang it from just about anything. I love it!!

You're not doing anything wrong. The grosgrain spools are snug, but they "just" fit - although I don't find that the spool flops around; it still sits in the groove.
This is the best picture I've found on another web site..... I use a rubbermaid product that is designed to stack with other baskets under the kitchen sink. It is product number 5580. I bought mine at LNT. It is a long and narrow plastic basket with pre-punched holes throughout. I usually just leave my ribbon lined up in the basket, but you can pull the ribbon through the holes to unwind. This way if I travel with a color I can just pluck it out from the middle rather than pull everything off a dowel. And for $6.99 you can fit half as much again as the plastic cases above. The only negative is that it doesn't have a cover if you need to travel with your whole collection!
Wow, those are great pics! I'm using the pant hanger idea now, but those cases look great! I saw another idea here that someone used what looked like a long piece of gutter; it was mounted on the wall & the ribbon can just sit in there with the end hanging over; this is for the person who doesn't want them on dowels! I think if you search the threads about "my stamping space", you'd find it there; the stacking basket is a great idea too;

I went to target today and totally missed them! I can't believe I missed this thread! Now I have to treak back.
I bought all that my Target had in stock (7) a week ago. When I went back on Saturday, they had restocked. I bought 3 more for my mother because all the Targets around her were out. Don't give up. Keep checking and you may find them yet. The organizers are worth seaching for. By the way, Joanns Fabric online has really nice wooden ribbon organizers marked down to $19.95. The original price is $39.95. I believe they were in the clearance section. If you use Code SEPA550 when you check out, you may save 50% more. The Code for 40% off is either TAB51030 or OCTFPH530. If you enter one and it shows Free Shipping, hit the back key and change your code to the other one for the 40% off.
You guys are killing me!! I made my own just like the one at Target only it has holes that I drilled for the ribbon to come through. It's full and I need another one and this sounds like it's better!!
**********CATS AND RIBBON******************
I have a cat that eats ribbon and I have to keep it put away. I had a cat that ate some one time and, I won't go into details but I had to "help" her, when it came out I was amazed she ate so much!! Then I mentioned it to my vet and she got VERY upset. She said that this can get mangled up in their intestine tract and actually tie it off so that they can't digest anything!! You have to have surgery to fix it!! I was horrified because all I could think of was "what if" this ribbon had been tied off and I pulled on it!!
BE CAREFUL!!!
I bought 4 ribbon holders at Target today. They are great. I was using the pants hanger idea which was okay. I think these Target guys will be so much nicer.
I'm so upset! I drove all the way to my usual Target expecting to find the ribbon organizers mentioned here. They had none that I could find so I asked employees for help. They looked at me as if I had 3 heads and said they probably won't come out until Christmas time. DUH. I don't think they knew what they were talking about. Then I called 3 other local Targets and they immediately said they didn't have any. I don't think they knew either. I looked in the storage areas. No luck. Waaaah. I bought the wooden round clothespins to wrap ribbons around but really don't like this method. I've tried for a long time to find a cheap way to store my ribbons but with all the trouble I'm going to, I probably should just order an expensive one and get it over with.

Does anyone have this? I've been looking at it and I like the idea that the spools sit in the drawers with no rods. Just wondering what you think of it...is it sturdy?
I have found it best not to ask the employees about items in the store. The organizers are not with Christmas stuff...they are on an end cap where the storage containers are located. Try looking all around that section for containers that are clear white with green lids. They have some for ornaments and if you look on top, there should be ribbon organizers in the same colors or at least a spot for them. Our store has already restocked at least once. I have talked to others in KY, GA, and TN...that is where and how they found them. Don't give up and for sure don't wait until closer to Christmas to find them because they will be gone.
