Default Stampin up ink pads

Hello everyone. I hope you are all staying safe during these trying times.

I am curious about something. I have seen the ink pads described as linen, felt, and foam. I am thinking that the linen and felt are one in the same? If so, what ARE they? Linen OR felt?? lol

Also I have purchased some from ebay where they are sold as "Old style" and "new style". However when I purchased either or, I get the same type of pad.

Its usually the fabric style. Can someone here enlighten me?

Thank you

Old style is felt/linen. They are a felt pad with a linen top layer. Used with dye inks.  The SU spots are still felt/linen pads. These were changed to the firm foam in 2012.

New style is a firm foam and is very smooth. Requires a softer touch and only a few taps to ink a stamp. Also uses dye inks.  I have seen two other companies making spots in the firm foam in the last month or two.  I'd love it if SU would change their spots to this foam!

Craft ink pads are also foam, but a soft foam kind of like a sponge.  SU doesn't make these any more (except in white ink) but you can find them on places like ebay.

Thank you Diane! That was very helpful to me.

I Do have a few of those foam pads and I think I prefer them to the others.
