I did something new today. I started a sourdough starter. I found one on youtube that is no feed, no knead -- totally my kind of recipe. I've never made sourdough bread before, so we'll see how it goes.
Is it like the Friendship bread? I loved that . So one would give you a starter, and you had it so many days and added stuff, than on a certain day you made bread , and had cups of starter to give away and started over again. You had several different kinds of recipes you could make with it. Long story short, is that what you have? LOL
Sharon, I suppose that's similar. Sourdough starter can be made with just water and flour, or started with yeast. The typical is one you have to feed every day or every few days. I've looked at some that you literally throw away part of the starter and then feed it. That sounds pretty wasteful to me. I suppose instead of tossing it, you could give it away, but you did it every time you fed it, so that was a lot of flour. This one starts with flour, water, sugar, salt and yeast (only 1/4 tsp. of yeast). The lady in the video used it for bread after only two days, then fed the remaining 1/2 cup and used it again in 3 days. But you never had to toss part of the starter. It makes much more sense to me, so I'm going to try it. The best part is I don't have to remember to feed it. Kneading could have been done in my kitchenaid, but you don't knead it at all. Even better.
I set up zoom on my new tablet. You can only be on 40 minutes with this free version. I don't know how to use it yet but I'm willing to try once I figure it out.
It was a productive shopping day today. I found yeast! In the jars like I normally purchase. Very exciting find...who knew that a day would come where I would be excited to find yeast?!
Ann, I am so with you about shopping. I don't like it either. Before we had kids, DH and I would shop together because neither of us like doing it. When the kids were little, I did like doing it...by myself...for a break. Before all this started, DH did the weekly shopping and then DD1 took over. Now, since DH is working from home, he isn't an option and DD1 needed a break from it so DD2 and I do it together.
Kandie, please don't apologize for sharing. Thank you for the update and we are still praying. Your poor brother-in-law and sister-in-law, I can't imagine going through this and not even being able to be with their son.
I just realized that I forgot to answer your question Ann. I put either a ribbon around the book or glue a hidden stand at the bottom to hold the book at it's optimum viewing width. They can be dusted with a lightweight duster like a swiffer or vacuumed carefully with a brush attachment.

Ann, my brother's headphones are wireless and are either Sennheiser or Bose, I can't remember which. They aren't inexpensive but he loves them. If your DH doesn't like the ones he has though, that is a bummer. I think my SIL uses a pair too (probably to turn the volume down to her preferred level as she has excellent hearing).
Annette, I have wondered before how to keep a folded book clean, thanks for enlightening me.
talking of headphones, a couple we know both had them, he was hard of hearing , she wasn’t so not sure why she wore them but I couldn’t stop laughing when she told me that they both sat in the same room all evening with headphones on, just struck me as hilarious, a bit of a conversation stopper I’d imagine.
A lady on a blog site I join up with is making the friendship bread, she showed some she’s made and it looked lovely, she made some sweet bread too. I’m useless at bread and I’ve no patience for all that kneading either.
Jan, I have a bread machine that I usually use to make bread, but I also have a kitchen aid mixer that is capable of doing all the kneading if I wanted to make bread without the machine. The sourdough recipe that I found does not need to be kneaded. That, and the fact that it also doesn't have to be fed every day, or whenever, is why I decided to try it. So I started the dough and now have to wait at least two days for it to activate. When that happens, I can make the bread. You use 3 cups of the starter, coat it with flour, shape into a ball, let it rise and it's ready to bake. Then you add to the starter and let it begin again. Sounds easy enough.
My daughter and hubby will run into Chicago tomorrow AM, and will be back late afternoon, so I will send the code out when she gets back and get the Zoom set up. I will send the code out to the entire group email.
She sets up through an account that does not have a time limit.
Hope 7PM is OK, so we can eat dinner at 6ish
Kandie- hugs and prayers for your hubby's nephew (your step-nephew)? I cannot imagine the parents not being allowed to be there!
Kathy was it easy to download zoom, I might try it on my PC so I can perhaps join in, WIFI doesn’t work in my craft room, keeps cutting out as the repeater is in the lounge,
Jan its very easy to download Zoom to a pc. You have to register, as usual with everything these days.
Shelly, I will try and set the alarm...I will be in my jimjams if I come on as it will be 7am here LOL and Mothers Day. Only one of the boys is coming to see me tomorrow later in the day. DIL1 and the poppets came today for lunch...we had such fun.
Kandie, I am so sorry to hear the news on your DH’s nephew. No apologies needed. Just know that there are big hugs and love being sent to you from Oz. I so hope that he pulls through this.
I started one card for F yesterday and have just done another but still more work to do.
May see you all tomorrow. Shelly, my email should be on the list. If not, please pm me and I will send it through to you.
Happy Mothers Day weekend everyone. Hugs and waving

Shelly are you able to also include Karen on the email link please? I have emailed her to let her know that you are setting it up. I don’t know whether she will or even has Zoom but I wanted her to have the opportunity and hope you don’t mind. Thanks again for arranging and I hope to see you all tomorrow bright eyed and bushy tailed as we say, although I’m not sure I will be LOL.

Whoohoo I just checked and I can sleep in. When it’s 7pm Shelly’s time it’s 8am here the next day...yay.
Kathy you are exactly 12 hours behind me and Shelly is 13 hours so I think it will be 8pm your time.

Shelly, I also tried to PM my email and was told your box is full.
The weatherman is reading poems he’s written, so it must be Saturday.
I am happy to report my step-nephew’s trouble breathing may have been a panic attack, as the hospital gave him breathing tests and he is at 100%, so he is back at the special needs quarantine house. DH’s brother called yesterday afternoon and sounded a little calmer. Prayers are wonderful and God is good.
I have a dog asleep on my lap. With DH working the sale, suddenly I have a constant shadow. Hard to get anything done with a lapdog taking over your lap, lol.
Guess what? I ordered hankies from EBay! Now I have 36 more coming next week, whoohoo! What will I do if I can’t take them to lonely people in nursing homes? I may have to paper a wall in the bedroom with them! Wouldn’t that be creepy? I can just see trying to put on my makeup with dozens of hankie dolls watching me...
Monday starts the release of some stores and restaurants opening if special restrictions are met. I’m wondering if the furniture store will open. If so, I plan a visit to the manager, who happens to be my friend. This is ridiculous.
I have so many cards ready to be made, in my head, and have yet to get to them.
Did anyone have an overnight freeze? We covered all our plants, but my DD2 did a bunch of planting and I don’t think she listened to the weather warnings. I hope she doesn’t lose any of her flowers, she’s working so hard to make her yard beautiful.
Good morning to all!

I just ordered a collection of Arteza watercolor brush pens. Has anyone heard of these? They have a fine point but can be pressed down a bit to make a wider design, like for leaves.

Whoohoo..just received an email from Karen to say that she has zoom and will look out for Shelly’s email and join in.
I’m about to hit the sack lol...no email from Shelly yet but I will be there. Hopefully the email will be there when I wake. Going to be a hoot. Nite ladies. Have a fun day.
Kandie, I watched a video on those brushes and they looked good. Check out YouTube if you want more info. Have fun and good news re your DH’s nephew.

Yes, lots of frost this morning. We have not planted any annuals yet, I usually wait till the end of May to do any flower planting. The perennials look fine.
7 PM Central time it is! Wow, everyone rest up! Or get a project ready to go!
Kandie that would be so creepy having all those dolls on the wall, scary thought.
Melody , I used to have a bread machine in England but we decided we could buy fresh bread here seeing as we were retired so we gave it away, waking up to the smell of fresh bread, lovely.
I can’t believe some of you are still having a frost in May! We never have frost and have only see a couple of snowflakes since we arrived here twenty years ago, can I say thank goodness,I hate snow, trying to drive to work, all up hills, no thank you, here we don’t even have traffic jams unless you are foolish enough to go to the beach in August and stays until 7pm when they are all going home, once was enough, we live twenty minutes from the beach and it took us an hour to get home, ha,ha,
Sorry about the inbox, I have cleared out a few mails so there is room,
I neglected to mentioning I am on CDT, Central Time
I had ducks in my backyard this AM, and now am seeing a hummingbird at the feeder, I have had one for a couple of days, always coming to the back of the feeder so I could not see it!
Off to check out Day 2 of the Spring Stamp Camp 2. I needed some MoJo
Hi ladies,
I sent out a group invite for 7PM to the entire Alpha crew...just in case and I had about 7 emails bounce back, so sent invites separately....so you may get 2.
I will send the link to Kathy once I receive her email.
You do not have to sign in at exactly 7PM, as long as the Zoom is live, you can pop in anytime and you will be able to join.
On a cell phone, you will only see 4 boxes of people I believe and on the computer screen everyone will show up. On the bottom Lt of the screen, you will see icons for mute and a camera. If you only see a black box for yourself, click on the camera. When you are not talking and IF there is a lot of background noise, you can mute your phone or computer. You can turn the camera and the mute button on/off throughout the session.
Looking forward to seeing you/hearing voices this evening.
