If anyone is using a 3D embossing folder with a Cuttlebug, here's the sandwich I use:

A (or base) plate
B plate
3D Embossing folder with cardstock in the folder
an open regular embossing folder

That open regular folder provides just the right thickness and it goes through the Cuttlebug easily.

I have used my Cuttlebug for 2 brands of 3D EF:

Sizzix/Tim Holtz: A & B plates with folder

Spellbinders: A & C plates with folder

Many have stated sandwiches to use but I think each company's EF may be different. The Sizzix & Spellbinders are the only 2 that I have at this time.

I'd just echo wavejumpers advice, it really is best to work out what suits your machine by trial and error. I always start with a sandwich that goes through easily, probably without even embossing, then start shimming till I get what I want. Folders do vary a lot in thickness, and remember the thickness of your cardstock will have a bearing in this too. Plus, every machine is slightly different in how much pressure it exerts, so what works in one machine will be too thick/not thick enough in others. It's never worth damaging your machine by forcing through a sandwich. If you've had your machine a while, you will have a 'feel' for what it is accepting without causing damage.I'd think this is especially true of electronic machines, I only have manual ones, so it's easy to stop if it doesn't feel right. Not sure if the same is true of electronic ones, I'd think even more care is needed there.

Lightbulb First 3D & Gimini

I used my first SU 3D folder in my fairly new gimini and referenced the instrument booklet on which shims to use. Clear plate, magnetic shim (?), 3D folder and topped with plastic shim. My fold warped bad, like a big smile. Not sure what to do now. How to straighten it and not use the suggested shims but lighter. Thanks

Heart Orange Thanks!

I know this is an old thread but thanks anyway! I found a bunch of older Crafter's Companion/Gemini 3D folders at a thrift shop and was struggling to get a good impression. Thanks for the tips! (I'm using an old Big Shot and a new Switch).
