I'd just echo wavejumpers advice, it really is best to work out what suits your machine by trial and error. I always start with a sandwich that goes through easily, probably without even embossing, then start shimming till I get what I want. Folders do vary a lot in thickness, and remember the thickness of your cardstock will have a bearing in this too. Plus, every machine is slightly different in how much pressure it exerts, so what works in one machine will be too thick/not thick enough in others. It's never worth damaging your machine by forcing through a sandwich. If you've had your machine a while, you will have a 'feel' for what it is accepting without causing damage.I'd think this is especially true of electronic machines, I only have manual ones, so it's easy to stop if it doesn't feel right. Not sure if the same is true of electronic ones, I'd think even more care is needed there.
