I've been papercrafting for years, specifically cardmaking, and generally use glue tape runners for most things and silicone gel if I want a bit of dimension. Most of the demonstrators on Create and Craft use wet glues, so I've been trying wet glue on my cards. The resulting card always seems really hard, unflexible and often slightly warped.
Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong please. I'm trying to use as little as possible.
It comes down to what you are using it for, personal experience and availability, you are likely to get a lot of different opinions of this subject. Some of my my favs are:
Tombow Multi in the green bottle
Aleene's tacky glue and/or fast tack
Gel medium
I have learned that a little goes a long way if you are using a quality glue such as Tombow Multi and that spending a couple of extra bucks for a brand name quality glue is well worth it. Glue is not that expensive of a staple to go cheap on, you just don't save enough $$$ for the frustration of having your project fall apart or something in my experience.
I use Fabri-Tac from Beacon Adhesives. It dries quickly and clear and gives me enough time adjust and straighten. Yes, it can be a little annoying with stringing. It helps to cut just a small hole at an angle when opening a new bottle. I have also reused a lid with just the right angle on it. Happy gluing and creating!
It is all good. But glue sticks, I hate them. They dry and lose their cling. I like sook wang (score tape) tape or ATC and art glitter glue for the small stuff.
Re-reading your original post reminded me of of a "story";
A group of us were bible art journaling together and someone asked if she could borrow my Tombow to glue something onto a page and I said sure, handed it to her and told her "a little goes a long way be sparing". I should have paid better attention to what she was doing because her page warped, she was not happy. Later as I was glueing something onto one of my pages I heard the comment "oh wow when you said use very little, you really meant VERY little."
Long story short, her version of being sparing with the glue and mine were different, which btw case was learned through experience. Don't give up, keep at it. If you mess up try again, I still mess up more than I care to admit.
I love Aleene's glues (from back in my embellishing clothes with gems period, many, MANY moons ago...). So, I highly recommend Jewel it, which kept gems stuck on sweats through washing after washing. OK, it kind of stays on your fingers, too, but if you use this one, then not much gets on you:
I use one of these for gluing intricate die cuts to my cards- it dries fast, and the pen makes it easy to use just a tiny bit. You can refill the pen from a larger bottle of the stuff, too, so it's economical.
I really like USArtquest PPA (Perfect Paper Adhesive) and have had great luck with its performance on cards and mini albums. I believe I purchased it in Michael's with a coupon. I had never heard of it until a couple years ago, I'm thinking most likely on Ginger Rapp's blog (mysistersscrapper). I hope you find something that works for you!
Another fan of Aleene's - the Hi-Tack all-purpose is my go-to glue for almost everything. As others have said, less is more. Except when sticking thin paper, I have no issues with cockling or warping. When using thin paper I sometimes switch to Tombow Multi. And for small things, I use gel medium, so I guess I am just reiterating what stampin stacy says. I've been using the Aleene's for many years now and have no problems with stuff staying stuck, which I noticed could be an issue over time with some double-sided tapes.
I have 2 wet glues that I use all the time: a) Art Glitter Glue (no glitter in it) it dries super fast, so don't plan on wiggling it around too much. It holds super well. b) Gina K Connect Glue, This doesn't dry as fast, so you do have wiggle room to get it positioned just right. This glue also holds super well. Both have very tiny tips for using on those small, tiny die cuts.

Anniehall - I sometimes have problems with Stiff unflexible cards too when there are lots of layers. I usually use Alene's tacky glue but for heavily layered cards I found a glue tube at my local Michael's called Elmer's (brand) Flex Glue - They don't always have it but I get it when they do and no matter how many layers I put it stays really bendable

Have to say for the majority of my cardmaking, I use double sided tape.
Occasionally I will use a wet glue and I love the tonic nuvo deluxe glue. It has a lovely narrow nozzle, which allows you to work on small areas easily. It has a great stick as well, but does give you a bit of wiggle room before it grips.
my only wet glue I use is Art Glitter Dries Clear glue. amazing stuff. I make a lot of layered flowers and it is super. It dries quickly but you do have some time to get it into place. A little goes a long way! And you can purchase a fine tip nozzle for intricate die cuts and very small pieces that need gluing. I highly recommend this glue. It is great for glittering work as it dries clear.
Another (very emphatic) vote for Art Glitter Dries Clear. Couldn't craft without it. As an aside, it is also formulated in a Dries White version that, when sprinkled with clear/white/iridescent glitter, makes gorgeous snow drifts on cards.
For layering paper panels and card blanks, double sided paper tape burnished with a teflon folder guarantees a very strong seal.
I always reach for my ScorTape and glue dots. About a month ago, though, I began feeling guilty and thought I should use my liquid glues. Well, after trying the ones I had, I ended up trashing most of them, then I happened upon Tonic Craft Glue. So far, it has been a pleasure to use. It's not runny, I can apply tiny dots of it, it dries clear and not tacky/sticky in case some shows (my #1 complaint of the green Tombow stuff), and it's got a fast grab. For intricate die cuts and cover plates, I use the Tonic glue and also 3M General Purpose 45 spray adhesive. As long as I remember to take it outside and spray it upside when I'm finished using it, the nozzle does not clog and it's so much easier than rushing to get an entire die cut dotted with glue before it dries!
For holding cardstock layers together I use Scotch Double-sided tape. There is little wriggle room once it is down, so I use the paper positioner to be sure, or just hold the edge in place while I adjust. For embellishments I use the Art Glitter Dries Clear.
Tombow Multi is my all-time fave for paper-to-paper gluing. For embellishments I like Ranger Matte Medium. For items that need a super-strong bond, I like Glossy Accents. Of course, I also use double-sided tape and/or a tape runner.

lol Now I want a couple things like that clear Aileens-esp the pen idea. Flexible, clear and durable. Sounds great to me! Thanks Pat! And the art glitter.
Speaking of-glue pens. I am so so with them. They dry very fast so attach whatever like instantly. And I am not sure how long they will hold over time. So this new one with the bigger tip is intriguing.
I have all the old standards-green multi, ranger matte medium, glossy accents, aileens tacky...DS tape and paper.
imho-The issue of buckling and see through-like you see a ridge where the glue is...heavy CS wont show through, and mid weights (8o lb) if you wiggle it a bit to spread it or spread with your finger first, but I know people dont want to bother with that. The thins (65 and less) CS can be a challenge for sure and then I am probably doing DS tape. But not DS foam tape. That could buckle easily on the thins. I would recommend the fun foam then.
I have had liquid glue make color run on papers-esp the thins. Long time ago so I don't remember which glue/paper. Probably cheap pad paper from Michaels...anyone have that happen to them?
These don't seem to dry out over time, they're good for tiny detail bits, and I stocked up on a super double clearance sale some time back {nyah, nyah, nyah!!!}.
I just want a glue that does its job AND doesn't clog the nozzle!! The Lawn Fawn/Gina K Connect glues (same exact glue, but Lawn Fawn can be found on Amazon for a lot less) have been great. Ditched my Tombow a while back, still have Ranger Multi Medium Matte that I use occasionally. Never think to use my Glossy Accents as I bought it only for "accents" or my Art Glitter glue that I used only for glitter that I now seldom use!

Surprisingly, one bottle may make hundreds of glue dots, indicating that it contains a substantial amount of adhesive! For paper-to-paper applications, I use this glue as a permanent adhesive. I think it is best glues for paper crafts and DIY projects.

Which Aleenes glue are you talking about? There are several formulas.
I've been using Gorilla Household glue lately. I transfer some to a smaller squeeze bottle with a fine metal tip cap and mix with a little water. I also use Aileene's Tacky Glue straight or in squeeze bottle and water.

I belong to Spellbinders Small Die of the Month club, and I would LOVE to have the double sided adhesive they use when the stick the dies to the cardstock base. I can barely get the dies off, and sometimes have to use my Cricut spatula so I don't bend the dies. Same with Diamond Press dies. Their double sided adhesive isn't as strong as Spellbinders, but I sure would like to have it ! I was using Art Glitter Glue but due to weather conditions, had to switch to Bearly Art glue and it's great too.
