? on Glitter Stamped Cards

I am new and need some help. Trying to make a card with glittery sheen.

I am seeing on you tube to versa mark card( already cut and stamped), then apply stamp n bond, heat, apply dazzling diamonds glitter, reheat and then done.

My question is sometimes I see clear embossing powder in mix, whats the difference between stamp and bond and that (clear embossing powder), can it be used in place of stamp and bond?

So many different variations on how to make sparkly card, Im confused.:(

Hi Daria, I am not familiar with stamp and bond. I find the quickest and easiest way to get a glittery sheen over anything that is stamped or coloured with any medium, is a Wink of Stella brush. I would suggest you just buy the clear one GL.CLEAR 999. I bought several colours, but the clear is perfect on top of anything you have already coloured.


For super fine glitter I use Aleene's Glitter & Gem Glue. Simply apply the glue and then tip your glitter over the top. It's quick, easy and no heat gun required. Hope this helps.

I’m a big fan of the sparkle embossing powder. It is basically clear embossing powder with some glitter mixed in. It is easy to use.

The products like the stamp n bond, I find are hard to use and the shelf life may be shorter than embossing powder.

There is also a product called Die cut n bond which is like a roll of very thin double sided tape, and you can put that over your image and then apply glitter on the top and burnish it.

I think stamp n bond is a heat-activated adhesive.

Embossing powder not really an adhesive, per se-- I don't think you could use clear embossing powder, then add glitter on top, then heat again and expect a good result. But embossing powder mixed with glitter works in such a way that when you melt the powder, the glitter sticks IN it, like if you had melted wax and dumped glitter in (even though the powder is not wax) and then the wax hardened-- the glitter will be stuck inside.

As mentioned above, it is an adhesive in powder form that becomes a thin layer of glue when heated/melted. I love this product and have been using it for years! I love that I can stamp whatever I wish in VersaMark, powder it with the adhesive (just like dusting with embossing powder), heat it up & there's the stamped shape with a thin layer of glue, ready to cover with glitter! For extra setting, you can quickly/briefly heat it up once more if you wish. I do this step from beneath the paper.

This example shows little star shapes on vellum created with powdered adhesive & glitter. ;)

I've often made my own glittery EP by mixing either clear EP with glitter, or even coloured EP with a matching glitter. You do need to make sure you have more EP than glitter, or it won't stick very well. Never accurately measured it, but I'd guess I'm using about a quarter glitter to three quarters EP. Also, the finer the glitter the better the result. You can get trays of small empty pots on E-Bay, I think they are intended for use with nail art stuff, but they're really small and ideal for storing any excess in.
Depending what you are looking for, you can cover a shape/letter etc with UTEE, then sprinkle on glitter while it's still hot, then add some more UTEE/ layers of normal clear EP & Versamark on top to get an embedded look. You need to work quite quickly to get the glitter onto the UTEE, so you need to have your stuff laid out ready.

Mod Podge Extreme Glitter is a pretty nifty product. Has lots of glitter, applies with a brush, is transparent when dry and gives a bit of 3D/raised effect.

Mod Podge Sparkle is about the same but with a lot less glitter.

Sticky clear embossing powder works. Ranger and Judikins make it. You stamp with versamark and apply it like regular embossing powder. It leaves a sticky finish after heating Important not to heat it too long or it loses its stick. I press fine glitter into it after heating. I like Shaz’s UtEE method also, especially to get extra dimension.

Then there are times when I use Elmer's or Crayola Glitter Glue, small tubes of glue plus glitter. Very inexpensive, lots of pretty colors and just one step. Squeeze the GG where you want the sparkle and let it dry.

I've never had any of the glitter come off which is important because I send a lot of cards to kids in hospitals.

The glitter glue in colors is a good idea. I’ll be looking for red and green. Not sure I am steady enough to get it evenly applied on a larger die cut but the smaller ones would be great. I like the idea of it not rubbing off on cards for children.

I have used clear embossing powder over a glittered item before. Just press the item onto a Versamark pad or use a pen with embossing ink in it then proceed as you normally would.

* only problem is you are likely to get glitter on your pad but it can be gently wiped off.

I love Sheer Sparkle Shimmer Spritz by Imagine Crafts. It is so easy, gives a beautiful shimmer, and does not rub off. Spray the whole card or just a few die cuts before assembling. It is a delicate sparkle -- you might not see it if you look straight on, but tilt the card to the light and wow! I've had the best luck with the Clear.

I use the Champagne Shimmer Paint from Stampin' Up! mixed with 70% rubbing alcohol in a fine mist spray bottle. (DO NOT use the 90%, it will solidify). Then you can just spray the entire front or inside of your card and it gives it all a beautiful subtle sparkle. My recipe is approximately 1/4 tsp. of the paint to the small 2 oz bottle, then fill with the alcohol.

one of the things that I like to use is just a thin glue that dries clear and mix in extra fine glitter, usually silver. that gives me the shiny sheen I am looking for on most surfaces. I also put some of my extra fine silver glitter in some of my favorite colors that I use in my decorative painting. works great for some of my jewelry. someone mentioned the mod podge with glitter, that is great too.
