Default Scissor sharpener

Can anybody recommend a scissor sharpener? I really need to sharpen my scissors!
Thank you!

What brand of scissors do you have? Most of mine are Fiskars and I have a couple of different Fiskars sharpeners. They do an outstanding job on the Fiskars scissors.

There are also some good sharpeners on the market for different angles of blades. That's the secret...a sharpener has to be for the angle of the blades of your scissors.

I do have some really expensive scissors/shears that I send to the manufacturer to be sharpened, but that surely doesn't apply here. ;)

I have a few different kinds! Stampin up, Tim Holtz, cutter bee’s and another one, which I can’t think of the name off hand! I’ve been looking on Amazon and their are quite a few that also can be used for knife sharpening as well. My scissors have not been sharpened in years! Do you know if the Fiskars one can only be used on theirs?
Thank you for the reply!

I use the fiskars sharpener on other brands, but I make sure that the angle is the same before I begin. I think that often the general purpose scissors are all done the same but I shudder at the number of differences there are in general.

If you go to youtube and search on "fiskars sharpener," you'll see some short videos. Or yell if you don't see them and I'll post.

Here's one, but maybe Diane has different ones?

I have sent scissors to Jim Stephan before - he has some fun stamp designs too, if you poke around! Great 2-sided stamp mounting foam too. Good guy.

Diane, I'm just curious. I still have a couple of Kai's from our "trim the rubber" days in stamping, but have never used them since no longer needing to trim stamps. Do you have a favorite use for those scissors that I've been ignoring?

I have a Pampered Chef Scissor Sharpener I use. It works well. The only trouble I've had is sharpening Embroidery Scissors, with them being so small. I just can't get them sharp enough for me.

Lucky us around Clearwater FL. There is a wonderful knife and scissor sharpening person at a local Friday Farmer's Market who reincarnated my ancient Wiss pinking shears very inexpensively. Check around. If you have a fabric store in your area, I'd call and ask for a recommendation.
Then hide your scissors very, very well from everyone but your mother!

Thank you for posting this link. I bought some stamps from him many years ago and I think he used to be on ebay. But I hadn't been able to locate him there.

I take my "ancient" Wiss scissors to the knife/scissors sharpener at our Farmers marker, too. Before we moved here, I used to take mine to my hair salon when the scissor sharpener came around to do the scissors there. That might be an option. I have a machine I bought, but I don't have much success with it. It's a Fiskar's that Joann's talked me into buying when I asked them where they sharpened scissors. I think there is a knack to it that I just don't have.

I don't use them a lot because I forget that they are in my desktop spinner. But occasionally I want a super-sharp scissor and I grab them. They really could be used for most anything. When my Kai's got dull (and they are again-that's why I wanted to send them in) I started using a pair of Bonsai/gardening SHARP scissors.

I must confess that I have two things that I seem to "collect", or that I can't have too many of. And scissors is one of them.:lol:

Just wanted to put this out there in case it helps someone, if you have a local kitchen store in your area, check with them to see if they sharpen knives and scissors. Until recently, we had one who would sharpen them for just a dollar a piece.

Ok, this is an "old fashion" idea that I use and that my dad used for almost every type of cutting tool. For my craft scissors I used WD 40 and a "very" fine grit sand paper. It's an old fashioned technique but works for almost anything that's needs to be kept sharp. My husband found me a "WD-40 No Mess Pen" that works perfect. It has a felt tip much like your regular felt tip pens. Glide tip along your scissors then with the sand paper gently sand the blades of your scissors in a downward motion. I practiced on an old pair first and it didn't take long to get the hang of it. If this doesn't work for you the WD works great for paper punches that get stuck also!

*The sand paper I have used doesn't even feel or look like sand paper as it's so fine.

I took mine to the key cutting place in my town. They sharpen all kinds of scissors there and it was cheaper than buying new scissors. Just a thought.

I took an old pair of cutter bees and decided to try my hand at sharpening. I have a nice electric sharpener and thought what the heck.Do Not Try This, they are now totally useless!

I had the same result with a pair of my scissors. Luckily they were not super great scissors to start with, but now they are worthless.
