Fresh brain helps solve problems!
When I printed the description column from the master thread (I've never done it this way before, guess it wasn't the smartest way either) the lines wrapped such that Camo or a Native American theme made its own line which I took for another challenge!
I missed cancer free is the goal as the "c" wasn't capitalized so I took it as a continuation from the line above!
Glad to have that figured out...now to make a collage style card which is not easy for me...will see what pieces I have on my desk and go from there!

I've never had Larabars, but I've seen them in the health store. Maybe I should try them...

I have a cookbook called Power Hungry (I think!) that is chock full of recipes for all these bars you can buy. I've made the chocoalte version of the Larabars and love them.

Thanks for sharing the link. It had great variations on the main bar recipe. I like to grab things like that when I unexpectedly and grocery shopping hungry. Better than grabbing a donut or muffin from the grocery for sure.
I have found that I like the larabars that are more standard flavors for what you'd normally expect with nuts and fruit...some of the others (like lemon or mint) don't taste as good to me...but maybe that's just me!
Fun that Lydia did an early posting again. I'm looking through the gallery of samples and it is really fun to see how other's brains worked through the challenge!

I love this challenge every year. I work at a local hospital and you have inspired me to contact our cancer department and set up a card basket for patients when they are getting chemo. I always have extra cards and trying to decide what to do with them. Both my parents have had cancer and I have always wanted to give something back. This will be my opportunity.

I got great feedback this summer from my little hospital where I donate 15-20 cards every other month...I donated all of the cards I made in July for DTGD plus a few others...60 cards! Fun to create and fun to give for no reason...

I got the challenge card done plus one for my stash and then proceeded to get 4 sympathy cards done! Whew! That sure was a treat!

I am suppose to be a Metamucil but it gets expensive when you are suppose to take it twice a day!!
Looking for something else to have, that would freeze nicely so I am able to take it out when I need it. |
Instead of Metamucil, which makes a thick orange drink (GAG!), you might try a generic clear soluble fiber such as this one sold at Walmart: Equate: 125 Servings Clear Soluble Fiber Powder Fiber Supplement, 16.7 Oz - Walmart.com
This type of fiber supplement is affordable, has no flavor, no sugar and is non thickening. It dissolves best in warm/hot liquids. You can also use it for cooking. Just use your favorite muffin recipe and add enough powder to the mix to make each muffin a full dose (or half a dose if you want to eat two!)
One more thought, from someone with an extremely limited income who has dealt with a few of her own health issues:
Find other places to save $1 here or $2 there. Please do not cut corners when it comes to your health. You only get one life, so take care of it as best as you can. (speaking to myself as well)

I really should check with my local hospital to see if they can use cards. I've always assumed they wouldn't. As a patient (ER, outpatient and outpatient surgery), I've not found it to be a touchy-feely caring place, but more of an assembly line health care facility. I just assumed they would not take the time to get my cards to their patients. Maybe they are different with their inpatients.
Who do you contact to make your donations? Volunteer services? Gift shop? Administration?

I talked to a head nurse in the "infusion bay" area...not all people in that area have cancer...they might get blood infusions on a regular basis...
When I initially went I took some samples of cards I had made...I had them with an envelope in a clear baggie and told them I do not stamp inside the card. (I tape the baggie to the back so that the baggie isn't too big, if that makes sense!) I put a sticker on the back of the card that says "kramomma splitcoaststampers.com" as I want to be anonymous yet I want to give credit to SCS for why I do what I do.
The head nurse said she would talk to the person in charge of that area...and have her call me...well...the lady called and I have been donating now for over 2 years! I live in a small town so it is a small hospital.

Our local hospital's auxiliary (volunteers) are active, and they take my donated cards to sell as a fundraiser for their projects.

Can't think of many places that would turn down free, beautiful cards. We do want as many as possible to go to our card drive for MD Anderson, but these are great ideas for the rest of the year.
Didn't get any stamping in today, maybe tonight after AWANA. We have an early night tonight as we're having a burger night for the kids. It's also PINK OUT night which we started at my DD's suggestion a few years ago in honor of my mom's breast cancer journey. All these things are hard this year with our loss so recent, but also a good way to honor her memory!

A swap buddy sent me this via facebook, commenting that she should have prepared these "treats" for Monday's swap. The theme on Monday was BCA. More than a little outside my realm of humor, but keep in mind: I'm on my way to my mammogram this afternoon. Better to think of grahams than power outages, mid-procedure.

Hmmm...wondering if I should share this comment from my daughter...understand that she doesn't "get" card challenges and she likes "my style" so that in mind...
She usually is the one to take pictures of the cards that I made, today her comment was...Momma, what is this card supposed to be or represent?
Uhm...it's a challenge for SCS.
I prefer the normal cards you make!
Thanks dear...and I will remember when I make her a card it will be a "normal" card! :p

I'm so impressed with the cards people are making for today's challenge which I found quite challenging! I've come up with gobs of ideas today, but when I was staring at the TRASH earlier....not so much!

One son will tell me excatly what he is thinking, "can't stand that one, mom" or being kind, "you should have done..." this is the son that has his degree in art with a minor in art history so...he is very critical. However, it is very scary sometimes that we share so much the same taste in art and in interests!
The others just call me a "stamping nerd"!

this is so funny but whenever I would come home from card class I would make my family look at each card I made and say oooooooohh and ahhhhhhh after each card. If they didn't I didn't go on to the next card until they did! They learned to say it quickly to get through all ten cards! LOL

Whew, good morning! Thought sure things were going to happen last night. But I finally just let myself go to sleep, knowing that if labor was really going to start, I would WAKE UP! I didn't (at least not during the night b/c of that!). Just felt gross, back ached, shivers. So! I think my body is warming up to it all at least! See, I've never gone into labor myself. Always been 7-10 days late and then been induced, though my water did break with DD2 but no labor started. So!! We'll see what happens this time!
Ready to be challenged. And I've made it to another Thursday which is my sacred creative day at home! Yay!
