Default Newbie!

Hey all!
I'm Julie and I'm brand spanking new to paper crafting, as well as this site. My husband and I recently relocated to upstate NY with our 4 yr old son, and 6 month old baby girl. My degree is in Interior Design, but I'm a stay at home mommy now. I'm currently obsessed with making cards as my creative outlet. Since I just started I do not have any die cutting or embossing machines, but I am having fun and loving my projects so far. It's great to be part of a like minded community and I look forward to learning from everyone here!

Julie, Welcome from Rome, NY!

There are lots of helpful people (or should I say enablers?!? LOL!) here and lots of useful information. Just ask and someone will point you in a good direction. I highly recommend going slowly with purchasing stamping goodies until you know what style you like...clean and simple (CAS), shabby chic, coloring with colored pencils, Copic markers, or Distress markers, bright colors, muted colors, using stencils, embossing folders or die cuts, etc., etc., etc. Look around the Gallery to see what you like. Speaking from experience here because now I am trying to dig myself out from under all my stamping supplies and finding too many "What was I thinking???" items that were on sale.

There are a bunch of us in CNY and if you would like to come play for a day check out this link:
NY - Ilion (Utica Area) - September 27, 2014- Shoebox Swap by njbaker at Splitcoaststampers

We would love to meet you in person! We travel to play, too,...Poughkeepsie, Binghamton, Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester...so hopefully you can come out to play. Not easy with little ones we know but we do hope to see you soon!

Hi Julie~~ Welcome to Splitcoast Stampers! You will find the MOST helpful folks here. I agree with Arlene...graze the gallery to see what styles fit your taste. If you like a card, click on it and it will enlarge and give you more information. You can click on the creator's name and see all of the creations they posted in their personal gallery. I have found that I like sketch challenges to spark my imagination, but there are many blogs with many ideas to help get you going.
As Arlene said, I recommend going slowly in your purchases...you don't need EVERY color of cardstock or ink, nor EVERY die ever created. I would recommend a Big Kick or Big Shot (same machine) for your die cutting and embossing folders. Very durable and supplies are easy to find. You can search the forums with any questions and find LOTS of great advice. Have Fun!

Welcome to Splitcoast ... a wonderful place to spend time getting inspired!

Please try to take Arlene up on attending one of the many gatherings. Since moving even further away I have not been to many in several years but always thought driving 200+ miles was well worth it!

Happy Crafting!
