Default Has this ever happen to you?

Another chat group that I use to belong too, had a craft forum. One of the members hosted a card challenge. It was seven people who signed up. We sent 8 cards to the host along with postage. I don't even remember what the postage was but I believe it was $5.

This was back in January. We still haven't received any cards. I am no longer on that site and even went so far as to delete my account. Not just because of this but because several things happen.

One of the ladies that was on that site, still emails me and I email her. In fact, I just sent her a birthday card last week. She informed me that she has pm this host several times, requesting that she either sent out the cards or mail her cards back to her. Of course she has not had an answer. Before I left I also emailed the host with no luck with a response.

It honestly is not about the cards, even though I spent a lot of time on them, not counting the flowers, ribbons and brads that I used. But it is just about the fact, that she is not responding to any emails or request.

My friend even emailed the owner of the chat group/website and she told her that was between us and the host.

Just wondering if something like this has ever happen to you.

She may be going through a very rough time. People don't usually just stop communicating for no reason. Tragedy can make you withdraw into yourself. I went through this a few years ago and it took a few years to recover with the support of friends and family.

Yes, it has happened to me here in a card swap. At first, I was irritated. But then, I figured I didn't know what was going on in her life, so I let it go...the cards and the irritation.

That could be it, even though she still is on the forum and posts regularly, according to my friend.

I guess I am just upset that she won't respond to any emails. Even when my sons died, I still responded to people and let them know that I was going through a bad time, but would get back to them as soon as possible.

But I guess you are right and people react different to tragedy and bad times.

By what your saying, I dont think there are any issues that are stopping her being simply polite and sending a response. I think that if she is still chatting on the forum she is just being inconsiderate not responding to your email. This is a blatent ignorence on her behalf. She has taken the work of 7 people and kept it for herself. How rude can you be. We all have issues in our lives and sometimes they can knock us down for years I know , BUT she is still socialising on the group.
This is just my opinion but I think the forum should have taken some responsibility there by requesting a response from her, especially as she was still actively posting.

Yes, this happened, there on SCS matter of fact.

I got the same excuse as you. "L mailed everything out" So may I ask, why didn't anyone in the swap receive their cards back?

Some people just really don't care. And it is sad.

Can you report her to a mod on this site??

Its happened to me on another board and it does make you mad. The person in my case was also still posting on the board, and did give me a couple of excuses. After a few months I just wrote off the cards and my money (and her as well) and moved on. No sense letting it get to you.

I do think the other forum has an obligation not to let them host another swap. Otherwise isn't it facilitating known fraud?

I don't do swaps anymore but if I hosted one like this I would take a picture of my PO receipt and PM my group etc.

You can report your flaky hostess, but I highly doubt SCS is going to get involved in resolving a swap dispute from another forum.

I've never done a swap, and I don't know what I'd do if someone was that blatantly rude and deceitful. But I do wonder if you might have a case of mail fraud. You sent cards and money for postage. You don't mess around with the U.S. mail, it's a federal offense. Just sayin'.

I used to host swaps a lot at another site but had give it up for my own sanity, lol. Some of it was because of those who were habitually late and also because it was costing me too much money. That's my other pet peeve, swappers that expect the hostess to pay their postage. I'm not talking a one time accidentally forgot to include it but those who always forget.

Some people have the best of intentions but get in over their heads and host/participate in too many swaps. Some even habitually do this over and over and then go into "hiding" from embarrassment when they can't meet their obligations, not the mature or "right" thing to do but sadly they find it easier than following thru. Even if their stuff is late that is better than never and just take a minute to let people know whats going on, dang it!

Always amazed me the gall of some stampers who would disappear for a while and then suddenly start posting and chatting as if nothing ever happened and then have the nerve to post a new swap while still never having finished the other swaps. Regular members would know better but new members wouldn't. I got pretty good at clicking the report this thread button and using pm to "report" problem members so they couldn't participate in any future swaps. If enough people complain to the mods/owner then they will have to step in or risk losing the bulk of their membership, at least that is the theory.

Sorry you didn't get your swaps or at least your stuff back. I am curious what in the world were ya'll swapping that cost $5 in postage, it much have been something really large and cool.

The host just asked for $5 each so that she could mail out all of the cards.

I hosted 4 swaps myself and never had any problems. I also hosted about 3 on-line crops/challenges a year and also made sure that I got my prizes out asap, when the crop was over.

This is the WWW. There could be a billion reasons why she isn't responding to your emails....everything to the emails going into a spam box to something happened that she just doesn't want your friendship. It is annoying indeed.

I sent her several pm on the other site, through the site. I could understand the emails going to spam folder, although we have unchanged emails in the past.

Now a days with First Class or Priority Mail you receive tracking info. Can you ask for the tracking info?

I had it happen once; here, but it is rare that there are many dishonest people. I posted right on the swap about not receiving anything; and reported her, also. She didn't dare to show up again unless she changed her whole bio.

It happened to me too....at least a couple times....
Such person is still hosting swaps...her response to me and to another Canadian swapper was that she did sent the items.....interesting that both of us in Canada did not receive at all!!
Also...on the opposite end -as a swap hostess myself- I often had to pay out of my pockets for people NOT sending in return postage $....in one case ,once I very gently reminded this person, she totally blew up saying that the day she sent me the swap card she didn;t have enough cash for the return....NEVER even considering leaving me a short note of explanation, until I decided to mesg her and got chewed off for that!!:(
In another case I covered $12 out of my pocket for someone who was supposed to pay me back...welll...I am sure U can guessed that it never happened!!
And those are only a couple cases....*sigh*!! *thanks for this venting post!* :o)
Very frustrating indeed....and it is the reason why now I mainly host one swap a year (maybe two) Presently I am hosting my yearly MO Manning full card swap....
Anyone want to join??

Have a GREAT day everyone!

I'm not on other sites, but I've had all good experiences on scs swaps. Twice ive forgotten to put the return postage in the package, but pmd the hostess and mailed it out immediately. I think one of those times the package and postage letter arrived to hostess on the same day. My only complaint was many times people were late so swapping was a week or two late. I'm a stickler to deadlines and that always frustrated me. As a matter of fact, there was only one swap hostess who ever sent the swaps out the day she said she would in the many swaps I've participated in. I enjoyed her swaps! I prefer challenges now. They are awesome and I learn so much!
